Since the loss to S.D.S.U. this team has made great strides. They could've very easily folded after the loss to Southern but didn't. The coaches will have the players ready for the Bison. It will come down to execution and in game adjustments. I look for a tight game..it could go either way
-
Most Bison fans feel that since it's November YSU will fold as in previous years--NDSU is now playing outstanding ball and it will take a supreme effort to defeat them.I remember the first time I saw them @ Stambaugh when most felt they would beat us by 50 points--their fans were walking around shell-shocked after that one.I also remember when we had the game in the bag @ Stambaugh and Wolf decided to go for a td instead of running the clock down and winning it with a fg.We took the fg and stupidly left a minute on the clock so they could come back and score. It is November but since Wolf is gone we may have different results.Hopefully we smack this team from the get go and keep smackin em till the final play.USD proved they're not invincible and I remember a few years back we went to the Fargodome and knocked them on their ass. fb
-
They will likely shut our run game down and we will throw a pick 6. Defense will keep it close. We will need them to create some turnovers. Special Teams will be critical and may have to win it. Our offense is not good enough to score more than 1 TD on them. Heck we may not score one TD. This will need to be a team effort and the offense must not F *** this game up with turnovers or mismanagement of the clock. Defense is going to get a lot of playing time. We won't be able to win TOP vs their defense. I see another Montgomery meltdown.
-
They will shut the run down, as they always do. Wells is going to have to be on point. Cautiously optimistic. Defense will have to get some pressure on the QB and create a couple turnovers. I just think they beat us up front and pull away late for a win. Haven't seen enough from the O-Line to say otherwise.

Wells has to throw the ball well.... for us to win. To help him out, they need to create separations from their DBs, linebackers and safeties. Watching his passes this year, his passes were pretty accurate when our receivers created reasonable separations. When not, his passes were usually off the marks. It got worse when his eyes were locked on to those receivers. Stubbs was usually able to create separations and , we needs to use him more.
Stubbs' overhead catch just before stepping out of bound in front of the bench in yesterday's game was amazing. He did it going full speed away from the QB with one of his feet coming down within inches of the sideline after catching the ball.

I will never understand the negativity that exists on here towards the offense. If someone told me the guins would be third in total offense in conference play after the St.Francis game and with the offensive line issue's they have experienced I thought they would be crazy. If the performance against SDSU was better we would probably be first. Remember you are only as good in football as the people in front of you and around you and the same can also be said for the defensive side and special teams. That's what makes football the ultimate team sport. To say that Wells is responsible for the losses against Illinois St. and Southern is just ridiculous. The same could also be said for the defense. It's time to start believing and stop doing so much b****ing..BEAT BISON!!
-
Wells does make some throws that are rare at this level. Someone posted it before and I agree.
However, he stares down 1 receiver so much I've started to call him "The Cyclops".
With the health of the O-line we will need some new wrinkles for sure.
Not a great match-up for us but let's see what the big time coach can come up with. They know their backs are against the wall....win or lose as long as I don't see them quit like the last few years I will be satisfied that we are heading in the right direction.

Pick 6's in both of those games, both at horrible times. Not to mention the run where his knee came down before the ball crossed. Nothing against the kid, but he's cost us some games. Hope he can prove me wrong this saturday.

Football is a team sport, it is naive to single out any player or any one play and state that as the reason for a loss. Guess that we would have to keep track of everyone that missed a block, everyone that missed a tackle, every blown coverage every dropped ball. Sound absurd, it is!
-
Still looking back at the win in Brookings last season I don't think many people expected that. Personally I don't think that was a fluke and that kind of play doesn't magically disappear. Like coach Pelini said the margin of error at the quarterback position is so slim and there's just one to many variables involved..the fact he embraces the play of Ricky Davis tells me alot..Go Guins!!

Ok, I'll play. A dropped pass = a pick 6? A missed PAT = a pick 6?
Losing a down, or a point, is the equivalent of ending a drive, negating any and all gains acquired during that drive, and trading that drive for a six point gift to your opponent?
-
I'm happy with the past three weeks and we have improved but anyone who honestly believes we have a chance to keep this game within 14 needs to get a sense of reality. Southern Illinois, Western Illinois and Missouri State are deplorable. I will consider this game successful if we keep it within 3 touchdowns.

A missed block so our guy does not score, a missed tackle so their guy does score, a blown coverage so their guy scores, a dropped pass that would have been six, and so on and so on.
It is a team sport and the game is a sum of all the plays.
I have no expectations of changing anyone's mind, but that is cool, later.

Just want to throw this out there....
YSU is #2 in pass defense in the entire FCS and #6 in total defense.
Who on God's green earth thought that was possible after the last 5 years.
Proceed. BEAT NDSU!

They travel well so we need a good crowd

Southern Illinois lost to Indiana(Big 10)by 1 point--Indiana gave Ohio State a rough time. They lost to the mighty Bison by 6 points--not bad to a perennial National Champion.Western Illinois beat UNI a few weeks back.Missouri State is the only deplorable team in the MVFC.I know that NDSU is playing their best football now but keep in mind that they were beaten by USD in Fargo in spite of several turnovers and even gained more yards, more 1st downs, and more time of possession than the sometime invincible Bison.YSU beat them on their own turf easily. If we limit the mistakes and penalties and our crippled O-Line steps up we will keep it within 3 td's.Pitt is the best team we will face all season and we kept it closer than 3 td's. 8)

Is this the guy who was tweeting a few weeks back he wanted Wolf back?
-
The storyline in this game will be their offense against our defense. They average around 240 on the ground and their quarterback has done a nice job filling in for Wentz. The fact they only managed a 6 point win on the road against Southern most recently gives me hope. In that game they rushed for 400 yards and that was their key to victory. We have the number #1 defense in the conference for a reason and I really like the match-up there. I don't think they have faced a defense this year quite like ours. Their defense on the other hand never seems to miss a beat. Our offense needs to produce and make the most of their opportunities in the red-zone
-
NDSU finally put together a complete game last week, quite frankly the natives were getting restless after the USD loss (broken wrist by our QB) and the last 2 weeks have been shaky with the NEW freshman QB at the helm.
NDSU defense has drastically improved as the year has gone by, I think this YSU/NDSU game is going to be a slug fest and street fight. if NDSU can continue pounding the football and controlling the Line of Scrimmage NDSU wins . If Not, then YSU could get momentum!
NDSU will bring fans, I went 2 years ago and we had 1500-2000 fans there, should be the same this week. I know 3 busses that are bringing fans.
-
Maybe we will have 20,000 for Saturday. Isn't it only supposed to rain in the morning.

Lol, easy there.

How's the Linebackers play been for YSU? that could be a key to this game.

Not based on last week's attendance. Buckeyes playing at noon this weekend will keep some of the fair-weather fans away.

The green helmets were your good luck charm last week but you are forbidden to play with them in Youngstown..lol.. Your QB might have been shaky early on but to complete 4 TD passes last week to 4 different receivers is impressive. The linebacker play has been very solid as of late. The run defense has really made great strides since the loss to SDSU. We can really bring it and get after it on that side of the ball. Seeing how physical your offensive line is there is little room for margin of error

yea, Like i said, smashmouth old school football and we should know by halftime who is winning this game in my opinion.
Here's a BIG factor in the game saturday:
Bo Pelini had NDSU RB King Frazier in Nebraska, King will want to show him how good he is.
Bo Pelini Didnt even offer a "walk on" at Nebraska to 2 Nebraska stars WR RJ Urzendowski & QB Easton Stick.

That's not so encouraging :-[
As for LB play, Lee Wright has been a tackling machine last couple games. The rest sub in and out and aren't very noticeable.
O-line isn't as good as the past few years...some injuries and other things. We weren't exactly a brick wall against you then either so that's very concerning.

NDSU coach Klieman was very concerned about playing Youngstown St and said it's going to be a challenge especially at Stambough Stadium.
the video should hit at this site sometime this afternoon https://www.youtube.com/user/NDSUAthletics/videos

Thanks for sharing. I've always had a great deal of respect for coach Klieman. He tells it like it is and never leaves a stone unturned when discussing a upcoming opponent. He covers every aspect imaginable to have his team ready to play. All of our weekly press conferences in the past under Wolford and now Pelini are short in detail and never have any valuable information kind of like someone talking in circles. It was smart on the university's part to have him as the coach in waiting

I have no problem supporting both of my alma mater's each weekend.
Go Irish! Go Guins!

If Montgomery thinks he can lineup and try and run the ball and hit NDSU with the play action, he's sorely mistaken. NDSU fans have been saying they struggle with mobile QB's. Davis needs to play, and play a lot.
-
Agree completely with the previous post. I hope I am wrong, but YSU is going to struggle to move the ball. We need turnovers, a great defensive effort, and maybe a special teams score to win. We haven't beaten a team with a winning record, no quality wins, and now we face the 4 time defending champs. ND State may not be what they once were, but they are still very good.
They went into SD State and dominated a team that overwhelmed YSU. It seems when they have to turn it up, they do. Also the Bison are playing for homefield, and conference title, and potential bye in the first round. What am I missing here?
-
Also agree. I am disappointed that the MSU game was spent trying to reform Wells rather than groom a QB with the skill set to win.
As Sun Tzu wisely wrote, " all battles are won or lost before the Warriors take the field."
-
Your missing that they are not invincible--although a trip to Bisonville would tell you that they are and there is no reason to even play the game.
-
I'm just saying, with the O-Line problems we have had this year, and the play calling we all know Monty to have. We can't try a counter here, a jet sweep here and then have Wells try and throw us to victory. NDSU may not be as good as it was in the past, but its still pretty damn good. Gotta be able to throw a wrinkle in and let Davis go in for maybe 2 or 3 series in a row. Let him throw the ball! To say he doesn't know or understand the offense is ludicrous. He's been here 3 years.

Look at who leads the MVFC in passing efficiency:
http://www.mvc.org/football/stats/ind-conf.pdf
Wells has thrown an INT in every MVFC game. He threw two in the USD game, and two versus MSU (one called back due to an unrelated opponent penalty). He has thrown two pick 6's......but he's going to deliver the near flawless execution required for the NDSU game?

Is DAVIS going to deliver flawless execution??? Davis is the backup for a reason. He isn't as good as Wells. You guys treat this like: "what the heck is wrong with Montgomery? Why does he play Hunter Wells when he has Russell Wilson on the bench??" Nothing against Ricky, but he's no Hunter Wells, much less Russell Wilson.

#6: 7

Davis w/ a higher % completion rate.
Yards rushing:
#12: 120 yards (fourth leading YSU rusher)
#6: minus 40 (!)

The best predictor of future performance is past performance.
-
C'mon man?!?!?! You can't possibly be serious. Take away the surprise 85 yard TD and Davis is averaging LESS THAN 10 PASSING YARDS PER GAME!!! You want to drop Hunter's 200 yards per game in favor of Ricky's less than 10 because "The best predictor of future performance is past performance."
Not to mention the fact that to take your advise, we would be agreeing that you are better qualified to be the HC than is Bo?? Really? I bet even you don't actually believe that!
Most popular guy on most any team is the backup QB, UNTIL they get the start! I remember all the chants for Brady Quinn, Charlie Fry, you name it, every back-up is great until he starts. Read the press in Dallas after Romo hurt and how good We-done was going to do as a back-up.
-
Go Guins, just presenting the facts. Did u watch the video from NDSU? Did you hear them discuss Wellls' shortcomings?

What, you think the decision on starting QB should be taken away from Pelini and given to NDSU??!?!?!?!?!
Of course Wells has shortcomings. So does Tom Brady, although granted, somewhat less than Hunter. In fact, what they said about Brady coming out of Michigan was a lot like what you guys are saying about Wells. Can't run, OK but not strong arm etc. and I quote "Summary: Is not what you’re looking for in terms of physical stature, strength, arm strength and mobility,"
I'm just saying that, IMO, your premise that since Davis has -0- interceptions he's the better QB is nieve and silly. Good grief, I don't have any INT's either!

1. This is FAR from our super bowl. How arrogant can you be to even say that? Even if we had 5 or more losses, this would not be our super-bowl. This is senior day, we would have the seniors in all game. We have to win 4-in-a-row to even be mentioned as a possible post-season candidate. NDSU happens to be game #3.
2. Talk about their players from Nebraska. Do they even care that Pelini is at YSU? Do you think that their HC is even going to mention anything about that? What kind of positiove mentlity can you develop by saying "Hey ...Pelini thought you sucked so bad he did not even recruit you". What kind of HS mentality are those two guys? Hey I hope their coach does talk extensively about Pelini not recruitng them, that is less time to talk about our team.
3. I also like the mention of our crowd. Well I have two things to say there.
- We should take notice that someone outside of Youngstown has mentioned & get our butts in the seats.
- Those announcers should realize that 75% of our fan base has never even heard of NDSU. So who we are playing is as much (if not more) of a factor in the low turn-out, than our own team's performance.
I will take that one step further and say that in a normal season ...where we are in the post-season ...NDSU will still be the second-lowest turnout...behind USD. Further yet, I would bet that OVER 90% of the fans (if YSU were to sell out all 21k+ seats) would NOT be able to tell you that NDSU has won the past 4-titles, or even more than 1. Again it is the talk of a self-absorbed group of announcers.
-
I've said it once and I'll say it again, I like Davis more than Wells for his abilities, but at this point I feel a lot more confident with Wells at the helm. Any stats you are throwing out are hard to compare. Wells has gotten 90% of the snaps this year.
-
Thank god Pelini is the coach and not you Ricky Davis For QB1 lovers. We had a QB with Davis skill set last year and he is at Slippery Rock. Last time I checked the Bison are averaging over 300 yds a game running the Ball the past 3 games. If we don't stop that it doesn't matter if Aaron Rodgers is our QB. The offensive and defensive lines are going to be the key in this game if we can get push on both sides we have a shot. We all had this penciled as a loss to begin with and we need to stop blaming whoever for the loss if that happens Pelini blames himself not the players it's a team sport not an individual sport and if we block tackle and run and win the special teams battle we don't need our QB to be superman. Just like during the JT years if the team does the basics and all 11 execute good things will happen.

The last time they played here a couple of their fans sat next to me, they were amazed that more people did not come to the game, if only because we were playing them. They do think highly of themselves. And I agree that most folks in this area do not care about them and most teams in the league. And yes could not name the past 4 NC winners

Many great points and a good discussion here under this topic. We have an entire generation of fans who only know mediocre football, for some, 1997 or even 1999 was a long time ago. The student fan base is small, and we are an aging community, where many can't or won't go sit at a football game for 3 hours. Realistic expectation for attendance with a good team should be 10-12 thousand.
As for QBS, Ricky Davis is a D-2 QB, period. Pelini wants a QB who can also run, Wells cannot, so I do believe next years QB is not on the roster.

Hahahahaha. a D-2 QB? Jesus. That's the funniest thing I've heard all year on this board.

What's so funny, you don't think he can play at D-2 either?

The last time they played here a couple of their fans sat next to me, they were amazed that more people did not come to the game, if only because we were playing them. They do think highly of themselves. And I agree that most folks in this area do not care about them and most teams in the league. And yes could not name the past 4 NC winners
ok. so you & I-AA guy both said this now. I don't agree. NDSU has been on ESPN at least 10+ times in last 4 years and had ESPN Gameday on campus the past 2 years. Im pretty sure even college football fans in Youngstown know about NDSU.
-
Yes we know about you, and frankly my dear, we don't give a damn. And we don't give a damn for the whole states of the Dakotas. (Or that other useless frozen tundra state up north) I have no idea why we split up two homogeneous lumps of wasteland into 2 states giving you 4 US Senators vs the great heartland state of Ohio. Based on population we should have 15 senators! (and CA 48!) I say, "let's go back to 49 and have only Dakota!
-
wait a Youngstown person calling North Dakota a wasteland? holy cmon dude.

OK. Back to the game... ;D
will Bo Pelini pull out any tricks for this game? any new wrinkles? your thoughts.

No he doesn't do that. We dis one halfback pass this year and lost the game on a 2 point conversion. They don't have any fun like that.
-
Bison:
I think every coach has a few tricks and wrinkles under his hat, but I doubt that you will see any on Saturday.
For YSU, they have everything to prove and with the injuries, I believe that the focus will be on just playing our game and stopping yours.
Can't even count on the snow to help us as you guys seem to thrive in it.

Ruiz had a NDSU offer, so it'll be fun to see how he stacks up.
I'm thinking you will trot out your running QB as NDSU has had some troubles with that.
3 days away, lets get this party started!

Ruiz is hurt Lake, but he has been seeing more playing time the past 2-weeks. When he is healthy, he is the top all-around back in the conference. Shorter & hides well, hits like a ton of bricks and good speed. Not the biggest, or the fastest, or the strongest ...but the best. He cuts well against the grain and has great vision. He is the complete package. You will like him. Or I hope that you don't ;)

Lake that was not so much a hit on NDSU as a statement about FCS. Maybe things are different in ND but when we had our run in the 90's we were feeling pretty good about ourselves, assumed that EVERYONE knew about YSU football. NOT! Hey YSU just won the NC, that's nice but who do the buckeyes play next?
FCS always has been, currently is and most likely always will be regarded as small time, most people just do not take it seriously, fact. YSU, GSU, Appy you folks, all the same, most people do not care
As far as the league, hey it is a great league, but most OH and PA folks just do not care about most of the schools. Iowa and the Dakotas may as well be on the moon, people just do not get excited about them.
To be honest I would be surprised if many of your fans get excited about playing YSU
-
Lakes,
Two things: 1. Probably safer at the hotel despite how cheap property is in Youngstown.
2. Anyone anywhere who follows FCS knows who the Bison are. However, YSU has a hard time having its own "fans" care about it and follow YSU football. I know of people who would wish the penguins well and even come to games, but only if the buckeyes aren't playing then.
The mentality of alot of people is that if its not FBS, you're trying to get me to go watch a junior varsity football game over a varsity team. WE know that is a correct viewpoint, but that is how THEY feel. AND aside from Cincinnati and Ohio State, many of the Ohio FBS teams have very little following. Pretty much EVERYONE is a buckeye fan and would watch Ohio State over YSU, but claim to be YSU fans as well. I know YSU students that really support the team, but said if we had played Ohio State this year "WE would have been killed and I would have cheered for the buckeyes." Its hard to explain to you probably because in North Dakota all you have to choose from for football is NDSU or North Dakota, and well thats not much of a choice ;)

Anybody out there remember the snow bowl? I think it was against Middle Tennessee. They just kept shoveling to see where we were. Then about once each quarter they brought out a plow. I remember they hand drew a courtesy of Stambaugh's sign

Dirty laundry in public? What's he going to do when his boss doesn't promote him and tell him what a special and unique snowflake he is?

Bison fan here, needed to stop over and say hi. YSU is one of my favorite games of the year. YSU always makes me nervous. I'd love to make it back to Youngstown. One of the most "interesting" experiences of my life happened there. At any rate, have fun at the game everyone!

Haha, here goes: In 2005 I was driving from Fargo to D.C. and was looking for a place to stay for the night. After passing through Cleveland and thinking I would get knifed after I witnessed someone jacking a CD player in a parking garage, I saw an exit for Youngstown. I thought, "hey YSU has a good school and football program, I bet this is a good place."
So, I took the Youngstown exit and headed for downtown. I couldn't find a hotel anywhere. Well, I just start driving around and wind up in some very dark residential neighborhoods that look abandoned. Now, bear in mind, this was my first trip off the plains and I had a lot to learn about life.
As I am driving around I notice some car is following me. Now I'm starting to get nervous because it's just my cousin and me in a strange city far from home. Well we get to a stoplight and the guy pulls up next to us and rolls down his window. His first question: "Hey you guys want any pills?" - No thanks! "How about some weed?" - No, we're good! "Ok, then how about some p*ussy?" This got our attention. We wanted to know more. -What do you have? We ask.
Dude turns on his dome light to reveal a blonde, brunette and a red head. We couldn't believe it. We did regretfully turn down the offer and decided maybe we weren't ready for Youngstown. We saw a cop parked at a gas station so thought we would fuel up there. Imagine our surprise when he was taking bong hits with a couple of kids in front of his car.
So that is my Youngstown story. I am not a fan of posting on other fans' boards, but this experience left me with a soft spot for your city. This is my one and only time I have been there. I can't wait to go back. You can also understand why YSU concerns me every game, as I now associate that city with missed opportunities.

What is the exact status for the offensive line tomorrow? The Vindicator had an article about the O-Line but there was know mention of Fraser #71..is he injured as well?

Predictions fellow YSU fans!?
-
Predictions fellow YSU fans!?
If we can run the ball, manage the clock and not turn it over we have a chance. I have faith that the defense and special teams will get the job done. It will be up to the offense, I'm very concerned about the offensive line situation, that's a very tough defensive line for the Bison they will be facing
-
This is certainly not insurmountable. If it was, I think NDSU would be favored by more than just 7 points.
The key to me is forcing NDSU into throwing the ball. If they establish the run, it could be a long day. If we force them to beat us through the air, we have a chance.
Hoping the fans show up and make it a good environment. Can ill afford to sit on your hands on third down.
-
NDSU -7 1/2 and moving http://www.5dimes.eu/livelines/livelines.aspx#al_26
NDSU will try and run the ball, and they will be patient and keep trying until the 2nd half.
NDSU always seems to fall behind early on the road, then rally and win in 2nd half.
Good luck, talk with ya'll on here during the game.
-
I think YSU is now improved vs the team that lost by single scores to Pitt and ISUr (although the current NDSU team has improved since USD). There is more at stake for YSU than NDSU. If we contain the run D, force them to face our pass D, and don't commit turnovers, this should be a win.

Our OL is a patch job right now. Their DL is play at its best. I think we will lose by 2 TD at least. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm hoping that's where #12 comes in. Frankly, if the first series doesn't at least sustain a nice drive, I'd put him in.

It will be a good test of the new coaches that's for sure.
Interested to see what we do new...or don't, should give us an idea of what to expect next few years.

Here are the NDSU watch partys'. if youre in vegas or any of these towns, goto a watch party.. fun times!
http://www.ndsualumni.com/YoungstownGameWatch
2 hours from gametime, im sensing more confidence then nervousness for ndsu players on social media
-
Here we go. they said 1000 ndsu fans or more on the radio... confirm?
I want Martin Ruiz to doubt his decision not to come to NDSU.
that is all. good luck .
-
Horrible P.I call there. Ndsu looking crappy. Is anyone posting during the game here?? Hello hello?
-
Best half of football we've ever played in the last 5-6 years. Keep it up fellas!
-
How did the facemask on Webb not get called??
-
So they'll review this spot but not on the Hymes run?????? Unreal.
-
And now this game comes down to Montgomery.... God help us all.
-
Unbelievable......
-
Someone tell YSU there are 4 quarters.
-
There is no chance. YSU stubbles and chokes again.
-
Need a drive.
-
THREE drives and lets see..... ZERO first downs.
-
The offensive play calling is awful.
-
Looks like the refs are fixed to give this game to NDSU but YSU doesn't deserve to win when you can't even get a first down on 3 straight offensive plays in the 4th. Also where the hell is YSU getting these garbage kickers? Garbage punter.
-
Fu*k Montgomery. Get your plane ticket ready you hack of a coach. Cost YSU the game and the season. Also Bo, shut the hell up and leave the ref alone. Just cost the team 15 yards. Hack job. What a choke job. Some things never change. Laughable.
-
I've never seen anything like this. Jesus Christ.
-
Ug, I dont even know what to say.
My only advice is do not go to a sportsbar tonight wearing black and white stripes.
Horrible officiating.
See you all next year.
-
Everyone else throws for 250 on them and we throw 104. Why? Because we run on every f***ing first down. We but the backup QB in there on a 3rd and 6 at a critical part of the game. Montgomery sucks. The middle was wide open all day.
-
Last 4 possessions are all 3 and outs.
Close losses to Pitt, NDSU and ISUr. Any other conference and we whoop ass, and don't deal with MVFC refs.
Next year NDSU, ISUr, WVU, and SDSU are all road games. UNI is back on the schedule. Significant upgrades are needed on offense and special teams.
BP needs to show us next year why we fired EW.
I'm not convinced the playoffs are impossible if we win big at ISUb. Either way, we would beat well over half of the 24 teams selected for the playoffs.
-
I'm at a loss for words. I thought Hunter throw the ball extremely good the first half. The NDSU staff only needed a half to figure out Ricky and we went to the well one to many times and Hunter lost his rythem the second half. I think if #9 can make the grab we win. As far as the officials go they have it in for Bo I think we learned that in the Illinois St game
-
Amazing that they can reverse a "bad" call in the Ill. State game but not reverse one with major implications in this one :(
-
no idea what to say. Ndsu got L U C K Y and the charter plane is flying out fast...
-

Not sour grapes, but we get jobbed like this at least 1 or 2 MVFC games every year. The best officiating we see each year is our money game. We will never go anywhere in this league.
Good luck in the playoffs NDSU. Is the starting QB close to returning?

Technically it was the correct call. It was weak, but by the book - it was correct.

dam im drunk I don't remember posting that. but that picture makes me feel that it wasn't that bad .
im mad at NDSU coaches for the play calling 1st thru 3rd quarter!
-
I had actually thought that NDSU was offsides on the play--I will have to watch the replay--either way if they had punted better and not dropped that one pass it could've made a big difference --as we should know you can't let the outcome be in the hands of the striped shirts. fb
-
If that's PI, you can call that any play you want.
-
Thought it was a pretty good game, proud of my guins. D looked good, O did a nice job but was a little flat in the 4th.
One more game this year but I am excited about the future of the program.
I expected more from NDSU.
Their fans were ok, couple of blowhards but most schools have that. Still classless for how they disrespect the National Anthem.
I have to laugh how these other schools (SDSU and NDSU) get so hung up on Bo, unless they are jealous, why would they care.
-
If that's PI, you can call that any play you want.
Right in front of me, you are correct.
-
Agree. So soft that after multiple replays the NDSU announcers thought it was outrageous. A distorted still image (the defender's head is as big as his legs!) may show shirt holding...maybe...and maybe for a microsecond.....and yet Jody Webb's head gets spun on a facemask in Q3 and no call.
-
Bye Montgomery. 3 biggest possessions of the game, and all 3 and outs. Not even a single 1st down. Shame on you. That's all you need to know about YSU football the last 5 or 6 years. Shame on the refs also but up 14 with 9 minutes to play and your offense doesn't do sh*t to help out the defense. NDSU had the ball at the 50 or close to it every single time late in the game. Same old crap, different day.
-
Oh and kudos to all of us 6,000 people that showed up for the game. What a joke.
-
6,000 hahahaha more like 600. Exactly like predicted from someone on here the program is now a circus.

Proud of guins--I'm no fan of moral victories but feel that for the most part we are heading back to the upper echelon of FCS.This past season we lost by a score to the ACC Pitt Panthers, lost by 3 pts to the perennial Nat'l Champions and 2pts to the Runner-Ups.Agree with your post in its entirety.
-
very disappointed in the crowd. 2 years ago vs ndsu there was 15000 right?
today maybe 5000? wow. looked like 2500 on tv.
was a hard fought game, ndsu pulled out the win.... somehow.

It's really too bad Bo couldn't turn a new leaf and act somewhat human."
Garbage hit piece.
The yelling concerns me none. The anemic offense and 5 losses concern me some...but I'll cut him slack for his first year. Since when did football become filled with glass-jawed lightweights who can't handle loud words. Is this still football or is it now a chess club?

I was shocked to see that Kevin Schneph wrote such an article because he is the most mild mannered sportswriter that one would fine anyplace. Not only did Bo’s actions touch a nerve with him, but with me and others as well.
NEVER in my life have I seen such a sideline tirade. It was embarrassing. He totally lost his cool when he was in no position to see the pass interference call.
If it has not already happened, the word will be - the way to beat Youngstown is to get in Bo Pelini’s head.

Yelling is one thing. Losing your mind in anger to the point where you are searching out any ref in the area just to vent is quite another.
If history has shown anything, and the articles linked touch on it, is that when Bo loses focus on the game to chew out the refs, his teams usually loses focus and spirals also. That is probably why people should care, year one or not.
But, when the Washinton Post writes stories about Bo's tantrums, then maybe Maryland won't hire him away. Silver lining. :)
-
Blo,
In all honesty, he wasn't going to Maryland after only one year here. Whether or not our season turned out the way it did or that game. I'm not going to claim to know how long he really will be here, but I would have bet money against all the Maryland rumors. I personally think he will be here at least another two seasons (that way its closer to when his money runs out). I don't know that for a fact, but I don't think he would have come here for just one year.
-
Tough loss. That was a solid showing by the guins, just couldn't get it at the end. I'm proud of our guys though. Put up a hell of a fight on the reigning champs.
-

I totally agree. But, with the record number of schools looking for head coach after this year, it wouldn't surprise me.
-
I love Bo's passion, but not how he expresses it. That call by the ref on the interference call was very weak. No game should be determined that way. Bo isn't going anywhere. He didn't come home to leave. I truly believe he will fix the program.
-

How is the program a circus? Were you there? Hell there were Bison fans that flew to the game? The Penguins are playing hard right now which you want in November. That wasn't happening here the last 5 yes and in a Vindy article this past summer a player is on record saying how players gave up last year. I was 1 of the 6k that was there the Youngstown community missed a great game.
-

I agree
-
I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but after watching the outrageous calls in the ISUr game, and the ridiculous call in the NDSU game...maybe the fix is in? Maybe that's what pisses off Bo?
-
That was the correct call--their receiver was held down, pushed, tied up and the pass was right in his hands--just ask any NDSU poster. 8)
-
One thing I've noticed about AGS is that posters create their own reality. Fordham and Harvard play schedules equal to the MVFC. The NDSU announcers on ESPN three are not biased toward NDSU. The officials call games equally, including the NDSU-YSU game. tOSU = Iowa Hawkeyes.
It's truly an alternate universe.

Maybe if you did your homework you would know that the ESPN3 broadcast was called by an NDSU station and play callers. ESPN just carried the feed. If the feed came from YSU it would have been a YSU heavy biased.

Are you reading impaired? Of course it was NDSU play callers. That's why I called them "NDSU announcers".

You quote was poking fun at them for favoring NDSU, and I am pointing out to you that why wouldn't they be since they are a NDSU station. Like I said , if your (YSU) was doing the feed it would have been the same way towards YSU.

The first sentence was, "One thing I've noticed about AGS is that posters create their own reality."
I proceeded to provide examples supporting that claim. One example was regarding the NDSU announcers on the ESPN3 feed. On AGS, a poster claimed that the NDSU announcers are anti-NDSU....a false and bizarre assertion......a false reality created to support their own beliefs.

I am on AGS and I saw that post, and that is where the very basis of you statement is wrong. You claim that AGS is delusional (in a way) and then you claim it now to be based on the comment of one poster saying the broadcast team is anti bison. So your trying to claim all the fans on AGS think one way based on that one posters comment. Or you could have saved a lot of confusion by just making a comment like "there is one guy over there who claims the broadcast team to be anti bison".

FYI, I do think that YSU outplayed NDSU for the most part. YSU had a very good game plan on defense and contained the offense well. You offense has so very slick runners, man they burned us a couple times. Your players have heart and they played with class. Things just fell apart in the 4th for you and NDSU dominated the last 15 minutes and it was just enough. The talk of you coach blowing the game with penalties is BS. The game was pretty much out of reach at that point. His actions just made himself and the school a punching bag though. But there is no doubt that he is very good at coaching football.

Came here to offer my condolences. I was blinded by his "passion" for the first couple years at Nebraska. But this is what you get more often than not. And not just on the sideline. It's in the press room, the practice field and worse yet, the locker room. It becomes the mantra of the team before long. Blame someone else....especially the refs for things that don't go his way.
Good luck to you guys down the road. Hope you find a coach that isn't a complete psycho. And pray somebody is still delusional and takes him away before you have to do a complete overhaul of the the attitude in your program......see: Nebraska.

Amazingly I agree with your entire post bad punts and dropped passes enabled NDSU to pull that one out--something you can't do against a championship team.I'm really surprised how well our crippled O-Line performed.

The vid does show PI, but its an isolated example. Jody Webb's head was spun around during an uncalled facemask in Q3 of the NDSU game. There were outrageous call in the ISUr game, including defensive holding.
MVFC officiating sucks.

if the GIF fits, you must acquit.
it was an awesome game if you weren't a ndsu or ysu fan just sitting at the bar like 4 guys from new York were by our table... they were like dam this is an entertaining game.
Youngstown will be a force in 2016, we snuck away with a win, that's all I need to say.

6,000 hahahaha more like 600. Exactly like predicted from someone on here the program is now a circus.
[/quot
How is the program a circus? Were you there? Hell there were Bison fans that flew to the game? The Penguins are playing hard right now which you want in November. That wasn't happening here the last 5 yes and in a Vindy article this past summer a player is on record saying how players gave up last year. I was 1 of the 6k that was there the Youngstown community missed a great game.
If I have to spell it out for you then you don't get it. Any coach that acts like that repeatedly week after week is embarassing. I am proud of this univeristy and when a coach acts like that he has no control of his team thus being a circus. I am not a homer nor will I ever be. That type of behavior is unacceptable as a leader of men. He is a LEADER, he should give his players every chance to win. By getting 15 yard penalties at the end of the game doesn't help those chances.

Actually, they aren't biased. Chad Krispinksy gets excited for eveything regardless of who it is, which is why I am glad NDSU had their own crew.

How could he have his head turned around did a Bison tackler ever touch him.

In defense of Krispinsky (TV main) and Hannon (radio main) ...they are both very good and call it the way it happened. You will hear words similar to "YSU got away with that one" many times. I have heard them all and he is the best in the conference. On away games I will turn the TV down and hope the radio is not too far off the TV or internet. If it is a TV game ...it will be close, but internet is usually way off in timing, so I end up listening to the away guys.

This guy has no idea about Youngstown, Ohio and what makes us tick. Unless you live here you have no idea. Bo will be fine here. He is Youngstown. The people love that passion. Bo will recruit a new QB, get depth at O-Line and fix the special teams and the rest of the MVFC will need to be aware of the Penguins.

I also like to listen to Hannon and Sammerone on the radio. Yesterday Hannon was getting a little ridiculous almost seemed like he ws pro NDSU but ye isn't. Chad is a nice guy but he is irritating to listen to because he gets excited for everything even when it's not that big of a deal.

Good post. Chad does a radio play by play while calling a tv broadcast. I can see what you are calling Chad you don't have to tell me it's a handoff to the right side and give me the yard marker. I can see it. I can see it.

very entertaining game, cant wait to see the meltdown bo has with 20,000 fans 5 feet from him on the sidelines next year at the fargodome.

I still say that it was almost an instant classic. Just too many missing personnel for YSU & the QB for NDSU. I was at Northwestern and it is almost as bad as the fargodome. Bo may have been there. Yes you and UNI have those converted basketball arena's. They elevate the ceilings, for football use, and the sound is horrific.

Isn't this exactly the problem? What makes Youngstown tick? It is mind boggling to think, a city that a short time ago had the nations highest poverty rate, one of the highest rates of citizen exodus in the last 50 years, mob violence into the 90's, and a "re-emergence" based on the service industry reacts to anything negative by circling the wagons tighter, and relies on nepotism to solve its problems. Bo will be gone, by 2018, and the athletic program will be back at square one, passion is one thing, delusion is another beast and it eats raw meat.

Actually I am told that NDSU has some classy fans, I am sure they will be respectful and not be the kind of fans we have been labeled as.
I guess we will see just how classy they really are.

The fans I have met have all been very nice. Some liked to talk a little smack, all in good fun. Some were able to tell me a lot about their team, players and Fargo in general.
Some were a bit full of themselves, like the world revolved around NDSU. That comes with winning 4 NC's. I remember we were the same way....a distant memory but its still there...in black and white.

True. I am not sure we can pull it off this year if we get to Frisco, but 2016 will be a very good year for NDSU.

every fanbase that comes to ndsu to tailgate & enjoy the game walk away impressed and shock at how outgoing everyone was with food/drink and good talks. you'll be fine bro.
