YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Basketball vs. Valpo
« on: January 25, 2014, 12:22:00 AM »
And, as I predicted in another thread, as soon as we lost, the miserable-mobile would pull up to the curb and they all would pile out and post. About Slocum, Strollo, no center, blah blah blah the same old crap. They had to be in hibernation for a couple of weeks while the team won a few in a row but they're back now. Coach Paladin gets off the porn sites long enough to watch the games on the internet. This is the same guy that leads you to believe that he funnels money to the Penguin Club. He doesn't even come to games. At least "pride", for all his miserableness, pays to voice his opinion--I give you credit for that pride. They've even got Wick converted!! Valpo won't win the league, but they're not that bad. We're probably not going to win the league either, but we're not bad. We're entertaining and the basketball is light years ahead of where it was five/ten years ago. That's obviously not good enough for elite sports fans like "Coach" Paladin and his ilk. So be it. My time's up here--wish you all luck and go YSU!!

Thanks for seeing it my way "IP".    I wonder what the halftime speach was?   We got out coached after half and adjustments were made and we lost that battle of coaching adjustments.  The 30 foot 3 pointer with 20 seconds was a great play to call after that timeout.   Also, Keene played well in the 1st half so lets hardly play him in the 2nd half.  Nice strategic move.   When # 4 for Valpo got his 4th foul why didn't we drive it on him everytime to draw the 4th foul?  That would have been an obvious coaching move but of course it was overlooked.   Tell Slocum I said hi.
OK "pride" let's say for arguments sake you are correct and Slocum got outcoached in the 2nd half. Does that mean he outcoached Waters from Cleveland St in the last few minutes when we were down and came back to win? And if so, why didn't you say that? You can't have it both ways. The truth of the matter is against Cle St KP made some great plays down the stretch and made his free throws and last night he didn't. It's really that simple. Maybe not for you though. And as I said KP has earned the right to have a bad game--and Indy's post with the twitter pic shows he will do something about it.

You're right "pride"---I tried to hide it--but I can't any longer. I saw Slocum tell Perry to miss those free throws. It WAS Slocum's fault. You're correct. By the way, did you actually read your post after the Detroit game? After acknowledging the win, you a) worried about next year, b) complained about the bench, c) told your fans about Slocum's February losses, and D) railed about the officiating. In retrospect, I guess that's as positive as it gets for you. You have a better night!!

Anyone at the game seen slocum get out coached right from the start of the second half.  He had no offensive or defensive plan.  Yes the missed free throws hurt but a team that looked lost is on coaching period.   His piss poor record in close games speaks for itself.  Valpo lost 7 seniors from last year and still managed to own us.  Slocum thanks for this one.
Nice to have you back "pride"--we missed you while the team won. Glad you're able to spread your miserableness. Unfortunately, this game is on KP--and he's entitled to a bad game now and then. His missed free throws and the technical were certainly uncharacteristic for him. Their size hurt us--we rebounded poorly.

Good video 05---Biles was somewhat of a late bloomer who was basically under-recruited and we pounced on him. Coach Hall was instrumental in his recruitment with Slocum. He's a very important recruit as it's hoped he'll fill some of KP's minutes next year. His development this season will go a long way in determining what we do with the one scholarship we have left.

Whoever is writing this is a complete whack-job. I was at the YSU-Western Illinois game in the 2012 season at Western. There's more atmosphere at a Sebring-Leetonia (no disrespect intended towards those schools) game. I saw little or no tailgating and the Western fans were bored out of their minds. And on top of that, it's a high school type field. There's nobody in our league with our facilities and although FAR too many of our tailgaiters wear O$U clothing, believe me there's no comparison.

jj--those people won't post until the next time we lose (except for 05--who posts win or lose for which I give him credit). The next time we lose they'll tell you everything that's wrong with Slocum, the team, the gym, the AD, etc. And it's a shame because win or lose, this IS a fun team to watch. They work hard, they play hard, and they're good kids. They represent the University well. Some people just love to be miserable. Wait for them--they're just around the corner.

2 great games! What a TEAM effort by the men... KP wasn't on his A game, but everybody around him stepped up. Kam still looks lost out there a little.... Solid crowd and solid day for the guins!
I was at the game. They doubled up kp down low shutting him down around the basket. That open up the quick passes to the shooters at the 3 point line. Cole and Webber made the shots and we pull away in the 2nd half. Some of the passes and lay ups by DJ were spectacular. He had a great game. Clearly, Detroit put a tall defender on KP up front and doubled up on him down low. As a result, DJ was able to penetrate. Kam was pretty much lost out there. Hain is getting better under the basket.
The bench was terrible except for Amiker who did well on defense. We were still having trouble with tall guy near the basket. That Player from Germany almost killed us in the second half.
The guy from Germany almost killed us?? You're speaking of Lippert. He had 6 points and 2 rebounds in 20 minutes.

This article is in today's Akron paper. Please keep Coach in your prayers.

Poor play early. Pulled away slowly the 2nd half. Detroit isn't very good and YSU needs to get better.
You can't pay for great analysis like that. That's why he's so well respected. ::)

Wick,

I believe this is the official you were mentioning:

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/sports/2014/01/17/councilman-gets-an-earful-in-side-job-as-a-referee.html

I agree - I was very surprised that fouls were not called on some of the blocked shots YSU had under the Green Bay basket late in the game - and the older official had baseline on those plays.
Also thanks Indy---I felt so strongly that he was possibly the worst official I've EVER seen (and remember--my team won!!), that I felt compelled to register with the Dispatch to leave a comment to the story.

Slocum's a stiff. If it wasn't for him, we could have won by 20.

Haha. You know I had to get my one shot on Slocum in there IP! ;) all in all, a great entertaining game to watch. Gotta finish this home stand out strong!
You're right 05 it was entertaining, wasn't it? Didn't appreciate crybaby Waters not wanting to credit Perry or YSU after the game instead just saying how his team blew the game, but I guess it was a tough loss for him.  Perry and perhaps Hain are the only guys we have who would even see the floor for CSU so he must be really frustrated losing a game like that. Boy was Belin bad!! He'll need to play much better for us to continue to have a successful home stand. Detroit, Valpo, and Wright St (especially Detroit) are physical teams who will try to take KP out of what he likes to do. As you've said before, others need to step up--starting with Belin.
