YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Guins vs Sout Dakota

The crowd was alot larger than I thought it would be. And we played good defense, especially in the 1st half. In other words, a nightmare day for 05. Had we lost or played ugly and won, he and his buddy Isaac would have had 15 posts apiece by now looking to tar and feather everybody connected with the program. And 1935 Coach of the Year Paladin would have told you he saw it coming.

Lol, I love how IP always has to bring up my dislike for Slocum. First, I never said he was a bad recruiter. But he is a bad head coach. Could barely get the job done at Division 2 level. His teams play no defense, he's all about offense.... And that's worked out real well, until they run into a team that he gets out coached by, which is regularly. Look, I went to YSU, I support this school, but I will not support mediocrity. I try to make as many games as work and family allow. This is a free message board. I can express my displeasure if I choose to. If ya don't like it, we can agree to disagree ;)
05 if you want to agree to disagree that's fine, I have no problem with that. But to say he could barely get the job done in D2 shows that you just have a dislike for the man. He has won 681 collegiate games. 681, most at the D2 level. That's only 657 more than your hero Mr. Wolford, who I happen to like by the way. But, as you said, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. As insane as it is.

jj--I laud your pluck and your loyalty and I applaud you. You are what should be prevalent here. Unfortunately, this board is mostly comprised of the fellowship of the miserable. Strollo stinks, Slocum stinks, everybody stinks. There are people like Paladin who pretend they are somebody they never were, and people like 05 who hates Slocum so much, he posts only after losses, never after wins--all the while saying how terrible a job Slocum does recruiting while praising the talents of Kendrick Perry and Marcus Keene, players Slocum recruited. Like Indy said before, with Slocum you're getting exactly what you pay for. jj--it's a losing battle here, just accept it and laugh--it's all you can do. And hope any prospective athlete thinking of coming here doesn't read this board, otherwise why would they bother coming?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU to play Pitt in 2015 and 2017

JJ--Heacock did have some misfortune but as someone else posted (sorry for not properly crediting who did) there are more automatic bids now, too so even though the field is larger, it's not necessarily made up of alot of power conference non-champions. That's why bust-out teams like Butler get in now. Listen, I know Heacock personally and there's not a finer man around. I'd certainly trust having my kid play for him. It's just a matter of not getting into the playoffs that killed him---and it's swallowing Wolford as well. But you are right, he did have some bad luck.

Heacock was handed a championship program from Tressel and proceeded to make the playoffs ONCE in NINE years. If that's the definition of a solid head coach, then let's get him into the football hall of fame pronto.

Jon Heacock is the unluckiest coach in YSU history. Got SCREWED out of the playoffs in 2001 after almost pulling the biggest upset in college football (at the time) at #23 Marshall. Got screwed in 2005.

Turned the football over 5 times against UNI in 2006, costing them the #2 overall seed in the NCAA play-offs.

Had one of the most injury plagued year in 2007, and still finished with a 7-4 record. Remember they lost to #1 UNI that year by one point.

Say what you want about Heacock, I;m just going by the facts. He's one of the best coaches (winning percentage, total wins) in YSU history.
And in another unlucky note,  if I could have just changed 5 numbers, I would have hit the Mega Millions

I just do not think Slocum is getting the full potential out of this team. Too much talent to not be competing for a HL title.
Which is it clown...you complain about recruiting shortcomings...then talk about all the talent. Make up your feeble mind.

Face it---if Hain---at 6'10"-- could score, rebound, defend, and block shots--do you REALLY think he'd be at YSU? Some of you mental midgets think top notch 6'10"-7' post players are lining up to come here. Bring them in and we'll hire you.

And Slocum said Bobby is the best "post" player he's ever coached.... Well Jerry, you must have had some really bad post players in your coaching career lol
That's not what he said jagoff--he said he's the most offensively gifted post player he's coached. Has always said he has a ways to go defensively and rebounding. Get your head out of your rear (or Wolford's--wherever it resides today) and pay attention.

Dan will be having surgery this coming week. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. He was planning to retire after this season and now faces this battle. He's an excellent coach and an even better person.

WVU won't return our calls. To this point, they're a big "not interested"

Dana Balash reporting via Twitter that YSU will play Pitt in 2015 and 2017.

so

2014 - Illinois
2015 - Pitt
2016 - ?
2017 - Pitt

correct?
That is correct Indy. 2016 could be problematic. The rotten Big 10 not playing FCS is making it very difficult to schedule the money games.

Ray Isaac was the best and most impactful athlete in YSU history. He did more for YSU than anyone-players and coaches included. What YSU has done to him is disgraceful.
Thank you Mr. Monus. Today you'll be breaking rocks behind cell block #4

YSU's 4 loses:
1) Big 10 champs
2) reigning FCS champs
3) playoff team and MVFC second place team
4) bubble team

I don't think YSU would've gone past the second round, but still deserved one of the 13 at-large invites.
In other words, the only 4 teams we played who were any good

Isn't throwing more money at the problem what was done with the football team??  that worked out  ???  There is but one choice when hiring coaches at the low-mid-major level, young coaches with a chip on their shoulder.  those are the coaches willing to be paid minimally for the chance to prove themselves a greater commodity.  That takes talent identification.  That is a skill that is not very common.
Great point. We emptied the till for the new football coach and have gotten four years of empty promises and late-season collapses. But that's ok for some--we are "headed" in the right direction. Laughable.
