If we get ANY kind of QB play, we should win all of our home games, Southern Illinois being the toughest game. That means 2 road wins gives you a 9-3 record. Missouri St and Illinois St will be winnable games on the road.

Actually 05, this team doesn't have much talent outside of Schlegel--at least not that's playing right now. But give Barnes and staff credit--they are working hard and have the kids playing real hard. And it helps that the conference is down. GB not itself at all. Wright St may have the best team. Keep it going girls!!

Goodnews--saw the same video--laughable. Take a good look at him and the fat, bald guy arguing against athletics. Probably neither of them ever picked up a ball in their life. Well, a sports ball anyway. At least Franko is smart enough to bring up that communtiy support for the University in general might be in trouble without athletics. Ask the DeBartolos, Cafaros, and other big money people.

Every year people on this board complain about our home schedule, we're trying to establish a bb program here better than what we've had the past twenty years.  The other schools have the reputation as a basketball school that we don't period!  Playing one or two schools such as Thiel is alright, however, when we load up on them to make our record look better than it is, is not fooling the typical Youngstown fans.  To our credit, we do play some top tier teams on the road, but we need not to schedule three to four patisies at home.  As stated, the other schools can get away with it because of reputation, our fans recongnize playing the Westminsters for what it is.  Don't schedule so many Fredonia State's because people are not going to pay hard earned money to see them in Youngstown, other schools with more of BB reputaion can get away with it and still draw decent crowds.
Have you paid any attention to scheduling discussions on this board before? I think not. First of all, we scheduled 2 non-D1's at home this year--the Warren Wilson game was part of the Kennesaw St tournament. Secondly, if you check the other schools in the league, it's pretty much done by everyone. Third, in my opinion, the 3 non-D1's are offset by playing UMass, Pitt, and St John's--who you have little or no chance to beat and are games played to add money to the athletic department. So if you are going to not count Thiel and Westminster as far as our record, then you shouldn't count Pitt or UMass either. And finally, and most importantly, it cost money to bring D-1 schools here to play--and we aren't going to pay it. We don't have it. The other schools that have reputations as basketball schools (I'm assuming you mean in our league) don't have football programs that suck up tons of money. We do. Scheduling for our program is a nightmare. They try as best they can, but short of playing almost all road games, the home schedule is about as good as it's going to get. Maybe Pride's business can kick in a few more bucks and we can buy some better home games.

UIC is down this year but still a good W on the road. KP dominated! Have to come home and take care of business, no doubt.
05--despite his hatred of Slocum--posts after losses AND wins (as do many of us), for which I give him credit. We're not all supposed to agree, that's what makes sports talk fun. But notice almost 24 hours after a win, no posts from "Pride", Ray-Ray, Kilroy (or whatever his name is), and Mr Know-It-All (the great coach). Now go back and look at the GB and Milw threads. These basement dwellers posted within MINUTES after these losses. Just proving that there truly is a fellowship of the miserable and victories haunt them. Wait till the next loss. They'll be back. Losers.

I forget now, but which of you posters said this was a "fun" group to watch?  Only a sadist. Is anyone having fun now?
I did and it is. Come out of mommy's basement and see them.

Ah, more positive reinforcement from "Pride"--aren't we lucky to have such fans. Let's not over-react to two road losses to what may be the best two teams in the league. 05 is correct--the defense has been poor to date and needs fixed, and Perry didn't play well today.

One thing that I would say about Mr. Strollo is that if nothing else he is VERY approachable. So my suggestion to sports genius Paladin is to come to one of the $1 general admission games and tell Strollo to his face what's wrong with the program. That's cheap entertainment for Pally and maybe he can fix what's wrong with athletics. Strollo would be happy to talk to him. Or Ray Ray and 05 can come to O'Charley's on Monday nights for the coaches radio show where Slocum talks to everyone in the room and they can ask him what's wrong with the program and offer their suggestions.
Problem is none of these folks have the gonads to do any of this. Easy to hide on here. If you're that unhappy with things, get involved. The Penguin Club is always looking for help.

JJ--Wick is one of the few posters on this site who has any common sense. I don't always agree with him, but I'm sure he doesn't always agree with me either and that's the way it's supposed to be. But He's not one of the ones to attack--he cares about YSU and has valued opinions. There are the 3 main imbeciles (and you know who they are) who make this board an anti-YSU board and it's a shame. 1-AA works hard to maintain this board and it's been a great place for conversation since it's inception. We want to keep guys like Wick around. There's certainly too few of them.

JJ--just realize Paladin is a self-made fraud who will have you believe he was once someone important, funnels money into the Penguin Club, and is a top notch talent evaluator. He's none of those. Trust me.

Isn't it the most predictable event of the century that as soon as we lose a game, Ray (most overrated QB in YSU history), 05 (who spends his days and nights throwing darts at Slocum's picture), and Paladin (who screams YES I REALLY AM IN THE PENGUIN CLUB, although they've NEVER HEARD OF HIM) would chime in on how lousy the team is and how lousy Slocum is, etc. etc. As Indy said, all of the home teams won, so the loss is certainly no surprise. It's just really sad that people take glee in their "hometown" team losing. There's no hope for this board.

"Pride" is correct. Never get excited about victories. Only get depressed over losses.

Kind of surprised at the belief here that one good win means all the problems with YSU basketball are solved.  Slocum had a lot to say about this game, and the season to date.  None of the posters, though, could explain why YSU did so well, or how it was different from earlier games against weak teams. Weak analysis--just a bunch of boosterism.  I agree with those who say that this board is a bunch of trash. Folks who run it should be embarrassed. I'm leaving.  Bye.
Nobody said all problems are solved. Not by a longshot. This team is certainly flawed. But it's also very fun to watch and very competitive, especially when compared to a few years ago. Kendrick Perry is as fun a player to watch here as any I've seen in the 30+ years I've been going to games. Yes I am a booster. And goodbye.
