The Univ Of Washington projection is if the entire nation practices social distancing through at least May.  if it were not for social distancing that figure would be at least 10 times higher than the 60,000.

So if the country were to return to normal, at minimum, and this is a low projection, there would be 600,000 deaths from this virus.   That is more than a common cold.  Yet some think we should fill up Ohio Stadium in September with 100,000 fans.

It was 100,000-240,000 with the mitigation efforts then dropped to 80 some thousand  & now it's down to 60,000.

DeWine said last month 100,000 people had it in Ohio.  Nearly a month later it just went over 5,000. He said during the peak would be 10,000 new cases per day now the prediction is down to 1,600. Keep in mind the other numbers were with mitigation  and social distancing not without.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Q declares for the NBA draft

I had a weird feeling Q might try and do this, but I thought it would be after next season.  I guess maybe there's no harm, but you have to wonder now his commitment to YSU.  While he had a great season and I really looked forward to where he could be as a player if he played all 4 years at YSU, I just can't imagine he could think he's NBA caliber, especially now.

And while I know Cam Morse didn't have the players around him, his sophomore season numbers were a lot better as he averaged 20.3 ppg, shot 41.3 from 3, 81.1 FT.

Ola is not a surprise at all. I really think he needs to drop to D2or D3. I can't figure out what happened to to him after he debuted last year. He did break his hand twice this summer that set him back but he just never looked comfortable when he played. He couldn't stay out of foul trouble & honestly just seemed like he didn't know what to do when he got the ball. Seems like a good kid & wish him the best, but just don't see him as a D1 player.

I was afraid Jelani would transfer but hoped since he would most likely move into the starting role for the next 2 years he'd stay.  He definitely had a disappointing season.  I was really excited about him during his freshman year, but his numbers were down this year.  He started 22 games last year compared to 10 this year.  He averaged 8.1 last year to 5.4 this year.  His FG% went from 45.5 to 37.4.  His 3PT% went from 40.2 to 32.5.

I may have heard he was fighting an injury late in the year but he didn't score a point in the last 4 games and 5 of the last 7.  Oddly too he only shot the ball 6 times in those 5 scoreless games.  Outside of his big games against CSU where he scored 19 & 23, he only had 3 other games in double figures...all with 12 points.  Just seemed to be a strange dynamic with him this year.

Big time situation to monitor. Might not have the tournament at all.

The CBI tournament has been cancelled.  As of 1 PM today, the CIT tournament is still on.

Disappointing YSU finally qualifies for one of these tournaments and rewards the team & fans with a home game, then all this breaks loose.

WOW UIC just beat Wright State 73-56.  I didn't see that coming at all.  UIC though was a team all year that scared me.  They started off slow with some injuries and suspensions and their record really was never indicitive of how good they were.  They have a lot of good players and senior leadership.  They've now won 6 of the last 7 and 12 of the last 16.  Shows how important it is to get hot late.

I agree we didn't have a good night and the rebounding battle was lost by us and our shooting in large part was not good.  But we played on Tuesday night till 9 or so.  The players got home and the were up the next morning and got on a bus trip to Chicago ( I am fairly sure it was a bus trip).  That is a long tiring trip even if it was a flight from Pittsburgh or Cleveland.  Then play the next night.  UIC stayed home through all of this and was just fresher in my opinion.  Should have played on Friday to be more fair.

I was thinking this as well.  While the game not being played at UIC was somewhat of a benefit to YSU, like you said playing 2 days later on the road was going to be tough.  It definitely would have made more sense to be played on Friday as that would have still given 3 days before Monday's semi-finals.  Was difficult for Oakland too to turn around and play 2 days later at Green Bay against a team that got a bye because of Detroit being ineligible.

And not just because it was YSU in this case, but I've always wished the 2nd tiebreaker would be overall record rather than against the highest seeds.

With Fort Wayne coming into the league next year making for 11 teams, does this mean everyone plays 2 less non-conference games?  And I wonder how the tournament will be set up?  Will the lowest seed not make the tournament?  Don't know if there's time for a play in game.

Got beat by their own style of play...outrebounded by 13, out-hustled, and lost a defensive effort.  Some of the last possessions were unbelievable that YSU couldn't grab the rebound or loose ball, and it seemed like every ball that went out of bounds was somehow touched by YSU last.  Was just deflating.   And a lot of bad turnovers and just didn't take advantage of a lot of their turnovers.

I realize Quisenberry had 2 fouls in the first half, but I didn't understand him sitting for the final 9 minutes of that first half.  That really took us out of the game and took too long to climb back into it and never get over the hump in the 2nd half.

Missed way too many open shots too...Morgan & Simmons had wide open looks.  Akuchie missed some shots.  Just felt like if a couple of those could have fell it may have turned the tide.

Great game by Covington on offense and defense.

Disappointing too because I really think YSU is a better team than UIC.  They beat them at their place, was up 9 at home & gave it away at the end that basically forced them to go on the road in the quarterfinals, and then to lose that way tonight.

Great atmosphere last night!  It pretty much epitomized the 2020 season..fight back, play hard with good defense, pull games out late, and win at home.  It really amazed me how all 3 games against Milwaukee were so similar.  Milwaukee built sizable leads and if it wasn't for YSU shooting terrible for the FT line in the first matchup, YSU would have won all 3 late.

Pretty impressive for YSU to go 13-3 at Beeghly with really 3 tough losses...the OT losses to Milwaukee and UIC and the 2 point loss to NKU.  The UIC one really stung as YSU gave up the 9 point lead in the closing mins.  That one really could have swung things had they pulled that one out.   YSU does get a break with UIC's arena not available.

Also impressive is YSU is now 14-2 when holding teams to 70 points or less with the losses only being 2 point defeats.

Thought last night was a great team win...obviously holding Milwaukee to 57 means a total team effort on defense.  Milwaukee only scored 3 points I think in the last 6 mins and that was the one desperation 3 in the final seconds.

I don't know if YSU came out flat or tight, but they just couldn't get into their offense, shots weren't falling and Milwaukee was out-hustling and rebounding them.  I think the key was closing out the first half like YSU did getting that 11 point deficit cut to 6 with less than a minute to go.  Really for as bad as YSU played the first half, to be down only 6 was a positive and I felt pretty confident.  I kept thinking as the game progressed, someone has to step up and hit some 3's to win it as that was really the only difference in the game.  Covington's 3 and Akuchie's back to back 3's were the turning point.

Is Jelani at 100% or is he battling something?  He's went scoreless in the last 3 games and his minutes have been down.  He's only taken 2 shots in the 3 games and those were last night going 0-2.  I had really hoped for a better year out of him after how he looked last year in his freshman year.  He had big games against CSU scoring 19 and 23 and had 3 other 12 point games, but overall his numbers are down from last year.

Thanks guys for the clarity on the seed.   Hopefully they'll pack Beeghly for the game.  I have been screaming for Thomas to get some minutes and he played his worst game tonight.  Still think it's a confidence/mental thing .   Physical talent is there.

It's a shame YSU blew a 9 point lead with under 4 to go to UIC at home or they would have swept them.

And yes likewise here on Thomas and I thought the same thing. Interesting to see Ola finally get some minutes for the first time since the last Milwaukee game 10 games ago. Thought his length helped create a couple turnovers there on the press but he seems so awkward on offense. I just can't figure it out. He wasn't that way last year especially early in the season. It's like the time off from 2 broken bones in his hand really regressed him.

Going to be a one-and-done in the tournament the way the team is playing now down the stretch. We can't shoot very well at all. Need to recruit some shooters

I’ll take the W. Nice to hold them under 70 after giving up over 100 two nights ago. We get these guys again Tuesday. They beat us here in OT so it will likely be another battle.

70 is definitely the magic  number.  Pretty impressive  that YSU is now 13-2 when holding opponents  to 70 or less and both losses were only by 2!

Why is UIC a higher seed than we are ?

They beat NKU in the 3rd tiebreaker

Wasn't pretty but the result = W.  DQ carried them on offense and everyone scrapped their rears off.

Yeah for sure. It really was similar to the first game where YSU fell behind big, came back to take the lead, but this time closed it out. Thought Covington was tremendous. He didn't  play the first game and I felt that and the poor free throw shooting the first game was the difference.  Still wasn't a great FT shooting night but much more respectable  than the first game.

Though it didn't change the seeding it was an important win to now guarantee a wining season,  winning  conference  record, not go into the tournament losing  3 straight  and avoid getting swept by Milwaukee.  The only team YSU didn't beat in the conference was NKU.

Milwaukee sure ended the regular season bad losing 5 straight and 6 of the last 7. I sure didn't expect  YSU to play them. Probably would prefer YSU to play CSU but CSU beating  Milwaukee  Thursday was the difference.  That's 3 of the last 4 years YSU will end the regular  season  playing the same team in the Horizon League tournament.

Green Bay shot the ball well because we have no rim protectors.  They were able to drive to the hoop with no concerns.  I can't figure out why coach stays small ball almost all 40 minutes.  An injection of Jamir Thomas might have made the difference.  Let him use all five fouls instead of collecting splinters.

Yeah I agree.  Jamir played 11 mins against Wright St and scored 6 points.  He played a total of 3 mins the last 2 games.  I was surprised with the lack of PT especially early on when GB was dominating the boards.

Ola hasn't played in the last 9 games.

Wonder what the deal with Jelani was?  He only played 3 mins.  That's the first time all year he's played less than 10 mins

Looks like YSU will be the 5 seed no matter what happens now Saturday and I think will play CSU.  They caught a break with Milwaukee & Oakland both getting upset tonight.  Green Bay just shot the ball ridiculous...56% from the field including 56% from 3 and made 25 of 27 from the line.  It's really amazing they only lost by 10.

Them knocking down all those foul shots just never allowed YSU to chew into that lead.  I was thrilled after YSU hit a 3 right before half and to start the 2nd half as they got it down to 2 but GB went on a run and that was pretty much it.

Really hope now Green Bay can get the 3 seed instead of UIC.  Barring IUPUI winning and assuming YSU can beat CSU at home, I'd much rather see YSU go to UIC then back to GB for the quarterfinals.
