Good info on 6'7" Belin. Has he indeed commited to YSU? This may not be the 6"8" plus player we were looking for, but he looked good in the video promo. If he can rebound and score in the paint with regularly he will be a welcomed addition.

Maybe we will still landed a "big" player. ;)

The pitching may not be as good as the top Div 1 teams, but it should be strong enough for the Horizon. Maybe we can win the Horizon and play some of the big time teams. One thing for sure, aleast they are competitive. The baseball team has virtually no pitching and the only top player is out, they need a big change!!  >:(

ditto!!  We finally got some good pitching, Shedlock pitched well and the relief pitching also did well. Banks and Heath supplied the hitting. Banks has been on fire.

Now we have to win several in a row. :)

We have virtually no pitching! The defense is also quite questionable. It looks like another downer year. Can we not compete in any sports except track and football! :'(

Great game,  :) YSU plays well when running quickly before the opponent's defense sets up. We need to continue fast paced games.

Is the Detroit game at home?

I know many on this board are in favor of keeping Slocum, but I for one don't see why.

This is his seventh season and the following are his YSU records:

05/06    7 - 21
06/07  14 - 17
07/08    9 - 21
08/09  11 - 19
09/10    8 - 22
10/11    9 - 21
11/12  14 - 13

Total: 72 wins - 134 loss:
If you remove the 12 div.11 and div. 111 games; the likes of Slippery Rock, Lock Haven, Allegheny, Hiram, Geneva, Malone, Fredonia State and the likes - the record is:

        60 wins - 134 loss

No other coach in the horizon league would have gotten a chance on a 7th season!!

Slocum may be a very nice person and have a splendid personality, but he is ineffective as a division basketball coach. He does't promote driving to the basket to get possible fouls and usually the YSU team  gets 10- 15 foul shots per game when the oppenent may get 20- 25 foul shots per game.

He tends to have his players work hard on the perimeter to get off a 3 point shot, which may be good if you're making 45% or greater.

Yes, he has won a few big games, like Butler, Cleveland State and Milwaukee, but how about the close ones he was supposed to win.

I am curious why do many of you think Slocum deserves another year?

It seems like perpetual aggravation watching a big game with YSU basketball. I don't believe Chojnachi could play Div 3 basketball, Larson may play Div 2, but we have no back up big men as of this year. The big men currently recruited for next year are also perimeter players - doesn't look like sucess to me. :'(

YSU's baseball season will depend on starting pitching. Last season it was the next highest ERA in the Horizon. We need a good closer; last season we lost many games having the lead after the 7th. If we get two good starting pitchers and one good closer, it will be a far better season than last year.

Maybe we will get lucky and fine some good pitchers. I hope to see them early when they are in North Carolina. 8)

I watched part of the game on the Horizontal league video. K. Perry played an outstanding game, he had 7 steals and 28 points. He was driving to the basket and hitting three pointers. He seemed to be everywhere.

Perry and Blake Allen make an awesome guard duo, but like many on this board know; we must have one or two other post men to help Eargle out.

Slocum must fine two good big men to play next year in the post!!

I applaud all of you (6,300+) fans in attendence, you got behind the YSU team and they flopped. This is the reason the attendence has been sooo poor! We constantly depend on the 3 point shot and we had openings, but couldn't deliver.

Great fan support, but we all are so disappointed!

Pride:
A little laughter (lol) is great, but your probably right ??? Slocum has a terrible Div 1 record and by far worst of any Horizon League coach, yet he's still here. We still may end up with a 9-9 record in the Horizon and get his long contract extention. :-[

We must somehow get good strong inside presence or forget our chances of every getting a NCAA tournament bid.

Indy & Wick:

I share your scepticism. We have a pretty good starting five, but what happens when Eargle gets into foul trouble against teams with good/strong inside players? This will happen and it will spell instant doom! If we go 9-9 in the Horizon that would surpass my wildest guess at the beginning of the season. Our future away games will be extremely demanding on our starting five.

I also agree the Horizon League is weak this year and a 12-8 record will win the league, but that team may lose in the Horizon tournament.

But it is sure nice to see YSU at 4-1 at this point!! :o

Congratulations NDSU

You represented the Missouri Conf. well.

Their defense was superb!! We need a solid defence like that.

HEAVENS TO MURGATRAOID!! Do you believe YSU beat Cleveland State both in men's and women's basketball.

Wow!! What a way to finish the year for YSU in 2011. :)

Now keep it going.

Congraduations to the Penguins girl's BB team, they are playing well and Middlebrooks played a super game. It's great to see the girls with a winning record and a very competitive team.
