YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU vs Houston Baseball
« on: February 16, 2020, 07:07:09 PM »
I'm impressed; the YSU baseball team took the last two games in the series with Houston. What's impressive is YSU' pitching holding Houston to 3 and 5 hits respectably. Must of been the warm weather in Houston.

Great job team; kept up the good work. Maybe this year's team will win 20+ games.

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU BB vs IUPUI
« on: February 01, 2020, 08:15:27 PM »
I watched on ESPN3, YSU looked very good the 1st half, but during the second half, the pa$$ing was poor, the shot selection poor, the defense was poor. The team then blew a 17 point lead in the 2nd half. With about 4-5 minutes left in the game leading by 5 points; Quiz caught fire and took over the reins. He drove to the hoop and make two 3 points shots and the lead jumped to 12+points. Nice win, but IUPUI is a poor team.

YSU Penguin Athletics / PITT BB GAME THREAD
« on: November 06, 2018, 07:50:15 PM »
Looks like the same team as last year.

Steals everywhere
Many fouls
Poor shooting
no defense: Pitt just drives to the hoop
no coherence

I watched 1Q: I snickered,, I laughed.

There is no hope, very sloppy and undisciplined

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU vs BUTLER BB

YSU men's BB is again embarra$$ing to watch on national TV. There no defense and no hope.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Phil Klein starts for Texas Rangers
« on: May 21, 2015, 01:21:15 PM »
Former YSU pitcher started for the Texas Rangers last night against the Red Sox in Boston. He pitched 5.1 innings, had 4 strikeouts and won his ist game as a starting pitcher. He has pitched several innings in relief and won a game in relief last year.

Way to go Phil!!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / NDSU vs SDSU
« on: December 06, 2014, 06:53:57 PM »
NDSU defeats SDSU to advance in the playoffs. These are probably the best two teams in this year's playoffs and most likely would defeat any of the other teams that were chosen. Yet they had to play each other in the 2nd round.

It was a very, very close game with NDSU scoring in the last minute of the 4th quarter. Then getting an interception on the SDSU's 2nd play.

The MVFC has Illinois St. and NDSU still in the hunt.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Update on Phil Klein
« on: August 20, 2014, 01:04:13 PM »
Phil Klein's debut in MLB wasn't the best. He was shaky his first two appearances, but since then he has pitched well in relief for the Texas Rangers.

ERA: 2.35
Inn. pitched 7.2
K's  10

I am pleased he has settled down and pitched well since his first 2 games.

YSU Penguin Athletics / October 7th FCS Rankings

Youngstown State made a big jump into the FCS Coaches poll. YSU ranked 16th.

Keep it going Penguins!!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / A big week for FCS schools
« on: September 01, 2013, 07:13:23 PM »

E. Washington 49  Oregon St 46
N. Dokata St.  24

YSU Penguin Athletics / 2013-2014 Basketball schedule is out
« on: August 20, 2013, 03:10:59 PM »
I can't believe the YSU 2013-2014 home schedule; it is pitiful!!! We have Warren Wilson(wow), Thiel, Westminster, Robert Morris, Bethune-Cookman and South Dakota - now that's a great group of home games. The Athletic Department treats the home folks with absolutely with no respect!!

Every year this happens and they give some lame excuse for the poor scheduling of home games. Last year they blamed it on Butler leaving the Horizon. The home schedule has been horrible for many, many years; in fact: since Mike Rice was here. He scheduled renown teams that we wanted to see.

I'm sure we will get large crowds to see Thiel and the likes!

YSU Penguin Athletics / FCS versus FBS
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:49:45 PM »
Week 2: Again several FCS teams won against FBS teams:

Sacramento St   30
Colorado            28

North Dokata St 22
Colorado St         7

Illinois St.            31
E. Michigan         14

N. Arizona           17
UNLV                   14

South Dakota St  31
SE Louisana        14

The so-called Div 1AA teams are making their presence felt against the FBS schools. Three MVFC teams won, it will be an intersting season!

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU knocks off Pitt
« on: September 01, 2012, 09:55:16 PM »
Wow! Wow! Wow!

YSU 31 Pitt17

I was impressed with the offense; Cook , Stubbs, Hess and the offense line were magnificent!

Great win. Congradulations to all the team and the coaches!! :)

YSU Penguin Athletics / Udate on Justin Thomas
« on: June 21, 2012, 02:16:29 PM »
Justin Thomas is playing for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; a Yankees triple A club.

He has been used as a late reliever; his latest stats:

Games  Wins  Loses  ERA  Saves
   19         1        0      2.38     1

If he keeps this pace up, he should get called up to the majors in the early fall.

Does anyone have any status of other former YSU players in the minors?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Phil Klein
« on: June 07, 2011, 09:42:54 PM »
It was nice to see Phil Klein selected in the MLB draft. He was selected in the 30th round by the Texas Rangers.

Even thought YSU didn't have a good baseball season; Phil Klein pitched well!

Good Luck Phil  :)
