YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Northern Iowa Week
« on: September 17, 2012, 04:18:08 PM »
THIS WILL BE A GREAT GAME. We need 20,000 fans there!

We need to catch No. Iowa like Albany caught us - flat footed. UNI has excellent talent and is well coached. They playing 2 money games is a good move; it gives valuable resources to the athletic dept and will boost their oppurtunties for future prime football recruits.  All good recruits wants a shot at FBS teams!

Momentum will be a big factor in this game! The 12th man (fan support will be essential! I believe our offense will improve over last week, but I am sceptical about our pass defense and our defensive line pressure on UNI's passing game.

All in all, YSU should be able to finally win one from UNI. Go Penguins :)

YSU  38  UNI 34

YSU Penguin Athletics / FCS versus FBS
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:49:45 PM »
Week 2: Again several FCS teams won against FBS teams:

Sacramento St   30
Colorado            28

North Dokata St 22
Colorado St         7

Illinois St.            31
E. Michigan         14

N. Arizona           17
UNLV                   14

South Dakota St  31
SE Louisana        14

The so-called Div 1AA teams are making their presence felt against the FBS schools. Three MVFC teams won, it will be an intersting season!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Pitt Getting Crushed ...by CINCI.....AGAIN
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:55:13 AM »
I watched the Pitt-Cincy game last night on ESPN. Yes, Pitt was inept on offense, but the officiating was also totally inept. Pitt scored on a nice short run by Graham which at the time would have made the score 14-7. An official called holding on #54 of Pitt. The unofficial replay showed no evidence of holding and the ESPN announcers stated that should have been a no call.

Another crucial missed call was on Cincy' 2nd drive and score when holding should been called on an end around run.

Yes, Pitt is struggling, but YSU played them well and its still a great win for the Penguin program.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

I was impressed with the offense; Cook , Stubbs, Hess and the offense line were magnificent!

Great win. Congradulations to all the team and the coaches!! :)

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: TELEVISING YSU vs PITT GAME
« on: August 29, 2012, 05:12:38 PM »
I will be watching the game from North Carolina on espn3.com; since I was just up there twice in July for a wedding and then an anniversary.

You can get the game free if you have Time Warner roadrunner. I believe YSU will give Pitt a super game and turn overs will probably be the deciding factor.

My guess Pitt will pull it out in the last quarter. Pitt 24  YSU 21

Go Penguins!! And those going enjoy the game.  :)

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Men's basketball schedule finalized
« on: August 24, 2012, 05:19:40 PM »
I agree with WICK - the home schedule of Hiram, Genova and Marygrove is a disgrace!!! What are they? Div 3 opponents? Other teams in the league get reputable Div 1 teams, but YSU ever year loads up with Div 2 & Div 3 teams for the home games.

What a slap in the face for the home town fans; no wonder the students don't attend even with free tickets. :'(

The away schedule is good, but we probably won't see Geo. Washington, Duquesne or any of their likes at YSU.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Baseball recruits

Indy & 1AA fan:

Looks like the new baseball coach looked intently for that pitcher and he has found one in Jared Wright.

I am excited about the new recruits for baseball and I beleive we will be greatly improved; but football is #1 on my mind. I believe we will have an extremely good team and a great chance to defeat Pitt this year!

 Wow wouldn't that be something!

Its exciting to hear about the upcoming 2012-13 BB schedule, I like North Dakota St., Duquesne and James Madison on neutral courts. One thing I would like to see is to bring into YSU a few Div 1 reknown teams for the home crowd. Who knows we may even win one! ;)

Indy - Thanks for the update on baseball recruits. It looks like Steve Gillispie has jumped on getting proven players at YSU with plenty of speed!

One thing we need is good solid pitching, I 'm sure he must be looking intently.

We have 4 incoming players, do we have any full scholarships available for Brent Calhoun?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Udate on Justin Thomas
« on: June 21, 2012, 02:16:29 PM »
Justin Thomas is playing for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; a Yankees triple A club.

He has been used as a late reliever; his latest stats:

Games  Wins  Loses  ERA  Saves
   19         1        0      2.38     1

If he keeps this pace up, he should get called up to the majors in the early fall.

Does anyone have any status of other former YSU players in the minors?

This league is very good and allows the players to gain valuable playing time with excellent competition. It's great to see 10 YSU players participating; including Kamren Belin. This should improve each players ability and give us a competitive team this fall. :)

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Softball #4 Seed
« on: May 07, 2012, 01:23:34 PM »
Fan: I'm also disappointed, I did get to see them for a game @ the Rebel Games in Fla. and they looked good. The realism of softball is PITCHING & more PITCHING; we have some good pitchers, but Loyola and Valpo have a couple of excellent pitchers. They blanked us I think 3 games.

Our hitting with Haley Thomas and etal is good, but great pitching will hold down the offence. The top teams must have great pitching. Coaching these young pitchers is extremely important!

I am still proud of them winning 28 games; it would be great to see them win the conference and get a chance with against some nationality ranked teams.

If Beamon is signing at YSU is true: WOW! That would make this a great recruiting class. Now it will be up to Slocum to make them gel. This could be a very good team. :)

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: SkunkApeKiller Manifesto 2.0
« on: April 21, 2012, 03:51:23 PM »
The idea has merit, but will not work in the real world of monies and associations. The FBS schools will not vote to demote themselves to the FCS level. Most FBS schools have devoted years and a great deal of money to get into the FBS level.

Yes, most of us YSU fans would love to get into the MAC, but that was shot down by the MAC Presidents in the mid 90's. Kent State and Akron both vetoed YSU from entering the MAC.

Maybe a good conference will materialize in the future, but it will only happen if YSU becomes a constistent winner and decides to spent $$ to get there.
