YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Dayton Game
« on: August 29, 2013, 10:49:12 AM »
Have no fear; YSU will be up to the task (Dayton)! YSU should win handily by 20-24 points.

It should be a great evening with a lot of excitement.

GO PENGUINS!!!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / 2013-2014 Basketball schedule is out
« on: August 20, 2013, 03:10:59 PM »
I can't believe the YSU 2013-2014 home schedule; it is pitiful!!! We have Warren Wilson(wow), Thiel, Westminster, Robert Morris, Bethune-Cookman and South Dakota - now that's a great group of home games. The Athletic Department treats the home folks with absolutely with no respect!!

Every year this happens and they give some lame excuse for the poor scheduling of home games. Last year they blamed it on Butler leaving the Horizon. The home schedule has been horrible for many, many years; in fact: since Mike Rice was here. He scheduled renown teams that we wanted to see.

I'm sure we will get large crowds to see Thiel and the likes!

YSU basketball is also playing at Kennesaw State in a tournament with Eastern Kentucky, Florida Int. and the home team Kennesaw State which is in Georgia.

I turned the video off after the first 11+ minutes of play, I counld't bear to watch it any more.
Toledo use a smothering defense and our girl's were shooting very rushed and off-balanced shots. Toledo have very fast players and were the better team.

Yet we had a great season!! Who would have thought the girl's would have 20plus wins?

We better recruit some super girls for next years team to replace a sensational Brandi Brown.

DMorton;
thanks for the game time correction, Sunday afternoon against Green Bay.

Yes, Milwaukee is an easy team vs. most of the horizon teams. It sure was an exciting game because Slocum didn't impede their (the players) game. The YSU team ran up and down that court with great enthusiasm instead on going to the perimeter and passing the ball around the circle like a hot potato.

The players enjoyed playing like that, they even looked that good without Eargle. Question will be - will they play well like Friday night against Green Bay??

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Heacock achievements at Kent

Good comments from IP and HP. Heacock was and is a very good defensive coordinator, but does not have what it takes to be the HC. Heacock would have never won at Pitt! That gave YSU instant recognition.

Lets give our current HC some more time, I believe he will elevate us to the playoffs soon. I must admit our defense has been shoddy, especially pass rush, linebackers and secondary coverage.

Coaching is nearly everything in college and high school BB, that's why good ones are paid big bucks.
Slocum is mediocre coach and will never get YSU to the big dance. He has recuited some excellent talent like Perry, but Kendrick can not carry the team against some of the better teams.

Slocum has won some big games against Bulter, Georgia and G. Washington, but then lose many to poorer teams. They must penetrate more to the hoop to challenge the opponent's big men and get the opponent's into file trouble because we have problems out rebounding many of our better opponents.

My guess we will go 8-8 or 9-7 in the Horizontal league and again miss the big dance.

Another great hussle for a win! Coach Bolden has indeed made a fantastic improvement to the girls BB team. Coaching is what makes the different and makes teams competive and Bolden has been a great find especially after the two previous coaches.

Brown and Davis were sensational, Davis can indeed drive to the hoop and make things happen. Keep up the good work!

I agree with Double ET, The money games are extremely important to our economics to run the whole athletic department. It is also extremely vital for our recruiting, if we just played FCS teams and the likes of Valpo our recruiting would be sub par and probably put us at the bottom of the MVFC. We would also have a home attendance drop.

In fact; I'm an advocate of scheduling 2 FBS teams every other year, student athletics want to play against well known teams to see if they can compete at that level. If we win, then we get recognized by the media which then improves our status to the many football analysts. This builds the school's reputation.

A great win for YSU! The defense was super in the 1st half with Eargle doing a great job on the boards and blocking shots. Then Perry, over his stomach flu, made some critical baskets and was outstanding at the foul line. He will be a force against future opponents. He did have a lot of help from Belin.

When was the last time you saw YSU out rebound a major team 42-31?

This was a suberb win which elevated the team to a new dignified level.

Now, we must continue this winning attitude through the rest of the season.

GO PENGUINS!!

Great win over Geo. Washington, YSU held off a late surge by GWU. Bobby Hain played well, looks to be what we needed. Also the lady Penguins rolled in the second half against Pitt throwing in 12 three pointers for a another great win over Pitt.

Also the football team defeated W. Illinois 31-7, we gave them the 7 points by another interception thrown by Hess. But a win is a win! :)

I beleive we can chalk up another loss, SDSU's quarterback is having a field day and Zenner will have some big runs. We have no defense!! I don't think our defensive LB's and deep backs can intercept anything. An the front line is too slow to get a sack.

The defense is still pitiful and the offense has no clue what to do in the second half. I believe we will fall again. :'(

I watched the game on espn3 and the 12th man was a big influence in the game! I could hear large roars coming from the stands especially during 3rd down situations in the 1st and 2nd quarters.

I applaud all of you that braved the inclement weather and the 45 minute delay. then cheered loudly. It sounded like the YSU of the 1990's.

I do know from personnel experience that cheering and screaming will strain your vocal cords and leave you mute, but you can still stand up and give high fives!

Again, a super job by the 12th man, you truly helped the team win against a strong UNI team.
