Nice score. We need to watch that Zimmerman ...He and Underwood are really fast!

Defense is not improved ...here starts the shoot-out. We are lucky we had one stop up front.

Coverage looks bad as well.

ILS has made multiple blocks in the back not called against them.

However, we could really learn from their special teams coverage. These guys are good!

Is that Brown doing that kick-off?

We are in trouble. Pressure from the ends forced a punt by YSU, and ILS went down the field with ease against us for a score. ILS will take it down the field again to open the third, then we will only have 7-point lead. Of course, we always have to lead with our offense to open each game.

By no means defending our defense as they just gave up like a 170 yard first half but it seems as though its big plays (that they cause) that are keeping them from making stops.  Much better d-line play this week but when you allow a QB to complete a big pass while rolling out full speed to the right with lineman in chase, make a weak-hit tackle that turns a short gain into 20 yards and take your eyes of the WR in the endzone.  This week, it hasnt been consistently bad play by the defense... they just keep giving up little... little... little.... then BIG. That last drive before the half was really... disappointing.

Imagine being up by 21-points and then being humiliated at the same time?

Wolford this is unacceptable play. We are very tired of this!!!!!!

Wow.....end of the 3rd quarter and our offense is doing nothing but making mistakes.  Defense.....well....i'm not even going there.  This game is going to end up WAY closer than when it started.  Getting frustrated.

Imagine, the best offensive scheme in the nation foiled by simple corner pressure.

Post by: pioneer9 on October 13, 2012, 04:35:23 PM
Mistakes on offense are unacceptable... I'm not big on blaming coaches but it seems to me that there is really a pattern emerging here... Wolford has got to get these guys back in the game and back in the SEASON mentally!  Right now they look like an emotional basketcase....

Why can't we do that on defense?
Title: Re: ILS In-Game Thread
Post by: OleYSUfan on October 13, 2012, 04:35:58 PM
The defense is still pitiful and the offense has no clue what to do in the second half. I believe we will fall again. :'(

This offense is totally clueless right now.  I now believe that Hess has forgot how to play against the rush.  He's playing scared right now.

I'm no longer convinced that this offense is unstoppable.  Nothing since early in the 2nd quarter....they're defense has shut us down!!!!
Title: Re: ILS In-Game Thread
Post by: goodnews on October 13, 2012, 05:03:51 PM
If this offense isnt unstoppable we have NO chance.......  They have to play 3.5 quarters of great offense to win....

Disappointing. I finally cracked and just have to say this... Wolford, that was unacceptable and shameful.  Players AND coaches both to blame in this loss... write that in the paper
Title: Re: ILS In-Game Thread

Up 28-7 and then NOTHING.  This team and ESPECIALLY this coaching staff is not ready for the playoffs.  Sorry, I love YSU with all my heart....but in all honesty.....they're not very good and it's starts with the coaching staff and all the way down.  ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE FOOTBALL FOR THE LAST 3 QTRS TODAY.  Coach, you should be embarrassed, cuz I am for you.

Wolford ...I told you stay in Fargo. Please come back this week to turn in your keys. You are a big mistake. Coach M, You better have a good answer as to why your offense was so pathetic or cannot take them. Of course we will get another useless speech looking for the timeless line that, like you team, never shows up.

Can you believe our defense kept us in this game for 3-drives? Nice job ...but a bit too late.

Woolford gave some BS excuse on the radio.  Hey Coach, this game is all on YOU and the staff.  You guys absolutely STINK.

GAME OVER!!!!!!

It was over with 5:43 left in the second-quarter ...it just that someone forgot to tell Wolford and Montgomery.

I have a couple words for you...... 24 hour rule........!  What a joke........ I thought Wolford surrounded himself with talented coaches but im afraid their underachievers with resumes because of WHO they knew and NOT what they knew...........  There is a reason their at YSU with FCS experience... The sad thing is they are OVERPAID too..................

We were totally out coached today. We played not to lose when we were up by 21. The last drive at the end of 1st half killed us. We did not make any adjustments on offense in hoping the 21 points lead would be enough. I am not surprise that we gave up 35 points. I am shocked that we could not score a single point in the second half.

I have to say.....to those who say don't bail out on this team......as the weeks go by they give you nothing to cheer for.  I had high hopes this season, but here we go again.  I feel like this is year 1 with Eric Wolford.

I have been watching YSU football since 1966. This game was probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest, collapse in my memory. After the first 4 TDs, there were no emotion on the offense as if they had already won the game. Where was the leadership? We refused to put pressure on the QB who continuously picked our DB & safeties apart. You would have thought that, after 2 consecutive games, we would be ready for the option pass?

No rush on the QB, No linebacker help!  No stoppage for trick plays and no secondary help=No play-offs. I drove all the way from Colorado to see the Northern Iowa game, and told my girl at the end of the game, they still do no have a defense good enough to win this league let alone make the play-offs.  This is disappointing.  Expect 6-5 or 5-6 again!

@Double Et:  I remember a Div II playoff game at Fitch between YSU and Delaware in 78.  Think we were leading 35-6 at the half and lost the game.  Remember the game very well because I drove up from Hazleton, Pa to see it.

I just want to add how disappointed I am.  I had high hopes for this season and it appears it's going down the drain.  I've given this guy three years.  There is no excuse for what happened today.  I saw no adjustments in the offense and I've been disappointed forever in the defense.  I'm ready for a change!

We stunk up the joint in the second half. We have talent on this team but it is not in the coaching staff. Coach W is in way over his head and its starting to show. He has surrounded himself with a bunch of has beens who were totally outcoached in the second half. We deserve better, the team deserves better.

Yes. I was at that game. I forgot about that. At least we were scoring on every possession (so were they). It came down to who had that ball last. They did and we lost.

I am tired of hearing about the talent when Heacock's players continue to be our stars. It has been that way for 3-years now and everyone (including the media) talk about the increase in talent. I don't see it. #25 has been playing great, but we do not use him for two weeks now. Gee a bigger back in the former Gateway Football Conference ...who ever heard of such a thing? When you lose control of the LOS on offense, you need to get out of the shotgun and shove some weight down their throats. Then you can get some openings over the middle.

Fan,

I happen to disagree.  We have significantly upgraded the overall athleticism on the team.  We would have gone nowhere with the previous team.  Not enough talent, but better fundamental football players.  For me we needed better athletes while
Maintaining  the football player part.

Great point power. I may not agree completely, but great point. Although I think that much of this can be attributed to our OC. That is, we see the improvements on offense. That is the coaching, much more than the talent. Most fans have a limited understanding of the defensive side of the ball, and do not see the failures outside of the opponent's score. This town has a good football IQ, this knowledge is rare.  We should not have to teach fundamentals as we do; there should be a certain level of competence coming into the program. Freshman starting should be the exception ...not the "norm". Then again, do we have the coaching staff that can teach these fundamentals? Heacock recruited DI players, I do not feel this staff does that. Look at how are JUCO transfers continually out-perform the rest of the squad ...this tell me that we have no fundamental recruiting ability. I will agree the number of these has diminished though ...this is a good thing.

Good gracious, you posters are brutal.

And it couldn't happen to "nicer guy".

It's one thing to be a "tough" coach that exacts discipline. It's another to be boorish and disrespectful to all involved (and that includes the secretaries, ballboys and janitors).

Lots of people in and outside the program, are very, very tired...of this pompous mindset.

The $$$ in the "honeymoon/goodwill" account has been quickly and terribly spent.

Its not a good situation when 50% of your alumni want you to win a title so you'll get a bigger job, and LEAVE.......and 50% want you to go 0-11...get fired, and then LEAVE!
