I don't think that is a good fit for him

I would’ve thought he next move would be to the major programs (I.e. power 5).
May be SIU is willing to offer him $$$. Money talks.

Was that comment about the YSU President search process meant to be sarcasm?
The board of trustees hired the president without much of a search. It was widely reported in the media. It is a fact and not meant to be sarcastic.
That has nothing to do with the qualifications of the person. It was the process being questioned. Personally, I think Tressel has been a great president and Johnson will probably do the same to move the university forward.
IMO, today, the president must be able run the university as a business enterprise and not just focusing on the academics.

So happy for Oakland and the Horizon League!  YSU lost two close games to Oakland, shows how good we were.

I still have nightmares from that home loss at YSU. The last play, when we were up 2 with 3 seconds left, the guy came around the high pick screen at the top of the key. Our big guy didn’t step to contest the 3 point shot……we lost by 1.
Kentucky should have watched the Oakland game at YSU.where they shot over 80% from the 3…

There was some kind of accusation against her I think the last year and I think she was exonerated but they decided to move on.  Did we have a national search? Did they interview  anybody else? Kinda odd how we handled this who thing?

lol, if YSU hired the President without much of a search ……..

Comparing to the parallel with the MLB or other professional sports, there are other mechanisms in play to avoid the run away freight trains ( mechanisms such as revenue sharing, salary cap, drafting system…..etc.)

NCAA is trying to accomplish the same goal without these governing mechanisms.
The mid and lower majors are like minor league teams. With the major league teams power 5) paying big $$$ to attract all the top players, it is difficult to compete.

Something will have to be done, otherwise, I am afraid it will eventually destroy college sport as we know it today. More restrictive transfer rule might have be implemented in combination with contractual agreements between players and schools might be needed.

So DJ Burns has another year of eligibility!? https://twitter.com/underratedd__/status/1770104649544012062

so is he staying or going
Looks like he is entering the portal and the draft simultaneously. He implies he could go to another school with his additional eligibility if he is not drafted.

Personally, I wish him luck. At 6’6”, chance of becoming a dominant rebounder in NBA is virtually slim and none. He probably could continue his game oversea.

these kids change schools like they do underwear, my God.

Can’t blame the kids looking for more $$$ with the highest nil. Money speaks, specially for those with very little or no chance making the NBA.

Make the maximum nil $$ and possibly play a few years oversea. Get all the money available, then go on with the regular profession.

John Lovelace has entered the portal.  Disappointed, but can't say I'm 100%.  Seemed like his mins and production dipped the second half of the season

Yes. I am disappointed in him leaving also. The entire season, I was pushing for a 6’7” Lovelace over the 5’9” Langdon at guard to compliment Thompson. However, coach preferred Langdon.

He brought lots of energy to the game. With the success of UWM, he might be heading back to his hometown.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Nit
« on: March 18, 2024, 10:03:58 AM »
The NIT turned into what we expected with a lot of the bigger school turning down invites so now they get a 15-16 Villanova team in and as a #1 seed.  There was no way YSU was getting in the NIT with the changes that were made

Cleveland St. is in the CBI tournament and PFW in the CIT tournament.

From the sounds of it, YSU didn't want to participate in a post season tourney, the mindset sure changed from a few years ago when Coach Calhoun was all about it.

The whole thing is disappointing

According the news report, Calhoun didn’t want to participate into these tournaments. I don’t know what the real reason is. I guess it could have something to do with the budget. The other two teams don’t have football program expenditures. Calhoun also mentioned that the seniors are done. It could be due to the NIL agreements between the players and the university.
This new trend of portal transfer and NIL payments in NCAA has changed the landscape of college sports. Everything is about $$$. Watch the interview with Nick Saban on his view of NIL and its impact on the future of college sports and the players.

In today’s Tribune/Vindy newspaper

https://www.tribtoday.com/sports/local-sports/2024/03/youngstown-state-names-former-akron-coach-melissa-jackson-as-next-head-coach/

The following is the new information from the article that was not included on the YSU news release. It does offer additional information that she won only 4 more games after winning 12 games. I can only speculate that it might have something to do with why her contract was not renewed. It is simply a guess on my part and is not supported by any other information.

“In five years as head coach, Jackson led the Zips to two postseason appearances and maintained the best winning percentage in program history (.511) with a record of 72-69.

When Jackson took over the Zips head coaching job, she was initially given a five-year contract. In her fifth and final season as head coach with Akron in 2022-2023, the Zips began the season 12-2 before finishing 17-13. Before the end of the year, Jackson was informed by the university that it would not be extending her contract.”
