Basketball is new #1 sport at YSU.   WIN AND YOU GET RESPECT.
Just to be fair, football made the playoff and basketball didn’t. I do understand they are not at the same level. Out of curiosity, which program had a higher NET national ranking.

I'm glad it appears to be a seamless transition and Coach Faulkner will carry on with Coach Calhoun had established.  It's good to hear that apparently everyone else is staying...wish we could have retained Lovelace.

I did think the press conference though was pretty lackluster...just 10 mins including questions.  Can't believe there weren't more questions from the media.  And nothing from Strollo.
Apparently, they emphasized several times during the press conference that they want one to one meeting after the comments by the coach.
I could tell the coach is not as a dynamic speaker as Calhoun.  I guess that is a difference in their personality. It really doesn’t matter as long as he gets the job done.
BTW, who was the guy introducing Faulkner, he never introduced himself. I was surprised that AD didn’t personally introduced him.

From today’s Tribune/Vindy on the coach’s hiring. Lots of information on his contract that was not shown on his press conference (YouTube).

Good Luck with that!
Gone are our starting QB & #1 receiver…..we don’t even know who will be our QB yet.
I assume Tribune/Vindy will print another featured story on offense next couple of days. At least, king gets this year as our running back.

This appears on YouTube posted prior to his Utah State U. Job.

Has anyone seen it?

I plan on attending but would like to know the price of admission and parking... no information on the game.  Come on athletic department keep us informed.  Wasn't last year free?
Yes, I went to last year’s spring game also. It was free. I can’t remember if parking was free also.
It was just odd to me that the team has been practicing since mid March and they have not had any news release on the program, let alone the spring game.
Who is doing the PR for the team or the football program anyway? It seems like there are very little interests generated for this team.
This is supposed to be a football town and yet, even on this website, most of the discussions were still focused on the basketball programs. Really strange….

Has there been a press conference yet with Coach Faulkner? I had thought I read where there was supposed to be one last Wednesday, but I haven't seen it posted anywhere and there's been nothing from any local media.
There is nothing on the YSU website.

YSU Penguin Athletics / 2024 football spring game

The spring game is scheduled for 11am this Saturday (4/13/24). I still can’t find any information on the game.
Does anyone have any information on the game ( cost, format, players….etc). I am surprised that there wasn’t any information on the practice so far.
Any comments?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Report: Coach to Utah State?

@21WFMJSports
Per public records request, Jerrod Calhoun gets a 5 year contract worth a base salary of $625,000 plus an additional $300,000 in media rights compensation at Utah State.
He’ll also get annual increase of $25,000, every April 1.
He can also earn $350,000 in bonuses

.
@21WFMJSports
Calhoun has an assistants salary pool of $750,000 & $150,000 for men’s basketball operations & administrative positions.

Congrats Coach Calhoun - what a tremendous contract - almost double what he was making at YSU.

His base contract at YSU was $300,000.  He's in essence making $925,000 which is more than triple. Pretty unreal.
At least he is making $125,000 more than Zach Edey playing at Purdue (nil of $800,000, according to media report).
With YSU basketball budget, it is really hard to compete with the big boys. Utah State is not the really big boys in comparison to ACC, SEC, Big10….others

Faith is a big time get. All-State in two sports at Harding.
Looking at the website, it is scary that we don’t have any assistant coaches listed on the team and we also lost half of the players via graduation.

I just have one question about Faulkner. Was he actively engaged along with Calhoun in recruiting from the transfer portal over the last two seasons?  If he was, we might be okay. But if Faulkner just recruited freshmen and had little hands-on experience with the portal, then the program is in serious trouble.

Gabe Dynes' dad was actively pulling for Faulkner to get the promotion. Faulkner also had a lot to do with Langdon transferring in this season as well.

Hopefully, Faulkner also had something to do with recruiting Gabe so we might be able to keep him this year.
Among the recruits from the portal last year, Langdon clearly was not as goos as Reid, Thompson and Burns. I hope Faulkner also had some responsibility in bringing in these three.
If he was inspirational in bring in all 4 last year, we might be ok in bringing in good players via the portal this year. We will find out soon enough.

I just read on the YSU sports website, that all the assistant coaches on the women’s basketball program are gone also. Did any of them were retained or did YSU not list them until new contracts are finalized.
It looks like the head coaches for both programs will be busy filling the coaches’ vacancies.

As I suspected just Reese is on the ysusports.com website.  So, to answer your question it appears they're gone.

Just out of curiosity, did Calhoun take them, did they not want to stay or did Faulkner not want to retain them. L know Calhoun brought two of them with him to YSU from Fairmont State.
Hope new coach has already had some new ones in the work.
