YSU Moves to 2-0 in HL After Beating Cleveland State

YSU started the dual off strong winning the doubles point. The Penguins won two of the three matches against the Vikings to go on top 1-0. At No. 1, Marta Burak and Margarita Sadovnikova won 8-5 over Kara Sherwood and Alex Bush. At No. 2, Paula de Man and Lauren Hankle earned an 8-4 victory over Alex Power and Maria Lazaris.
The Guins won the first four completed singles matches as de Man, Sadovnikova, Hankle and Burak were all victorious. The Vikings won the final two singles matches of the dual at No. 5 and No. 6. The victory for Burak was her 21st on the season and tied the school record for most wins in a season.
At No 1, de Man improved to 16-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mathilde Orange.
At No. 2, Sadovnikova picked up a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 win over Alex Bush. Sadovnikova ended the match with a strong forehand winner.
At No. 4, Hankle won 7-5 and 6-2 over Kara Sherwood winning the final five points of the second set.
At No. 3, Burak dropped the first set and held on for a 6-4 win in the second set over Alex Power. Burak broke serve to win the second set then came out strong winning the third 6-0.
With the loss, Cleveland State drops to 7-9 and 1-1.
The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they travel to Green Bay.
