YSU Battles Akron Before Falling 4-3

The Penguins split the singles matches winning at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 while the Zips picked up the key doubles point and earned victories at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6.
In doubles action, the Zips (8-6) won the point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3. Paula de Man and Lauren Hankle cruised to an 8-3 decision over Madison Cohen and Angelika Jogasuria.
Akron was ahead 4-0 before the Penguins (6-4) won the last three singles matches. After YSU dropped decisions in straight sets at No. 6 and No. 4, the Zips clinched the match at No. 3 as Marta Burak was defeated 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 by UA's Olga Shkundina.
At No. 1, Paula de Man defeated Jogasuria 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Margarita Sadovnikova earned a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) decision over Prang Pantusart at No. 2 while while Hankle picked up a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (10-7) victory over Signe Lazdina.
With the win, de Man improves to 8-1 on the season with all eight wins coming at No. 1 singles in dual play. Hankle has won two straight following her win today.
YSU continues a busy stretch on Friday when they play host to St. Bonaventure. First serve at the Boardman Tennis Center is set for Noon.
