Penguins Suffer Setback at Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team put up a strong fight, but dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 55 Ohio State on Sunday evening at OSU Varsity Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Margarita Sadovnikova and Marta Burak had a 7-4 lead at No. 1 over OSU's Kara Cecil and Nicole Flower before the match was stopped after the Buckeyes clinched the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Annina Brendel had a strong first set in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat to Fowler at No. 5. Paula de Man dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1 to Kelsey Dieters, the No. 46 ranked player in the country.

At No. 2, OSU's Fidan Manashirova, the 122nd ranked player in the country, beat Sadovnikova 6-2, 6-3. At No. 3, Burak had a strong second-set performance falling 6-1, 7-5 to the Buckeyes' Gabby Steele.

The Penguins (6-3) had their six-game win streak by the Buckeyes (7-4). YSU returns to action on Thursday when they visit Akron.
