YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Pitt game

Tired of beating a dead horse but interesting that coach was asked at todays press conference if Narduzzi was trying to run up the score and Phillip's answered in a suttle manner but acknowledge that he was and said one needs to move on after 39 years.

That was his statement.  My last take if you Love YSU and the city of Youngstown you should take it personal even though you are not competing on the field.  Some of you have rationalized it but in all my years of watching football I've never seen a team going to a hurry up in the 4th with that big of lead.  Don't CARE if you feel differently.

Nice write up on their new coach and some of the players.   I do not see this as a winning team since they're so young.  It will be a rebuild.  all their bigs were playing hs basketball last season except Burch who is 6-1 and averaged 2.9 at CSU.

Narduzzi's father was the coach at YSU.. 6 of his ten yeara was spent battling cancer.  He was fired while dealing with cancer.Par was unhappy about it

One has to admire a son's love for his father and when you add that he died of cancer and was fired it makes YSU as the big bad evil and maybe they were.   I left the area in 1981 and Bill Narduzzi was fired almost 40 years ago.  Can someone from that era give some context. The timing sounds terrible but was there justification at the time ?

I was at most of the games his first 6 seasons and 1978 and 79 YSU was a power in D2 and after that his record was average.  Was it the mediocrity that prevailed that got him fired or were there other factors ?

all good points penguinpower.   It seems like this program was in a rebuild the whole Phillip's era until last season and it would be smooth sailing ahead, he said it takes years to build a program in the mold of a NDSU especially with building depth at the oline.

The transfer portal situation happened as we all ready know and what YSU got in return didn't fill the void of what was lost and add a 1st year qb and you have our 2024 results.
Does YSU hit the portal this year and bring in a major haul to rectify the program especially with some key losses at Oline and running back ?  As penguinpower said where's the money ?    If college football is about paying players to play can YSU compete ?

The whole time I think about this back to d2 enters my mind but with YSU facilities that makes 0 sense.  I'm ignorant on what YSU nil budget or funding is. Is there real transparency on this issue ? It needs to be on par with the top of the MVFC and i'm probably nieve in thinking it could.  It at least has to superior to Duquense ?

Well according to Pat's words no doubt that he enjoyed the outcome, More bitter then classy.

Ready for the next game.

Not according to some posters.  Passing every down in a hurry up offense in the 4th when you're up 48 and Phillips gives him a hug after the game.   I remember about 20+ years ago a coach for Rutgers told Joe Pa that he was a dirt bag when he did once in the 4th and they had an altercation at midfield.   It was personal for Pat and should be for us if you have Love for YSU.

Back in the 70s my family had season tickets at Rayen stadium and we sat right near Cliff Stoudt's family.  Cliff's father hated his son being in Narduzzi's veer offense and who can blame him since cliff was a big drop back qb.   His dad would stand up and yell "veer to the left veer to the right veer up your rear Narduzzi".

I don't blame Pitt, their back ups are in and they need to learn the system. Blame YSU for the product they put on the field. This last touchdown Pitt ran the ball...do you want them to take a knee?

Most teams when they're up 45+ in the 4th are not in a hurry up and passing every play.  I watch every OSU game and they usually just hand off and only throw unless it's 3rd and long when they have the back ups in.   This was personal.     You are right it is the YSU job to stop them but not this YSU D.

Pat's a P.O.S.  He was passing and in a hurry up the whole fourth Quarter to run it up.  I can now hope pitt get's their arse beaten going forward.

I'm amazed that there were posters who actually thought that this defense would be better than last years and that these last seasons backups would be better than the ones that transferred out.

Thought that was 4 down territory.

The transfer portal was unkind to YSU.   They lost a lot of value and what came in with few exceptions was a bad tradeoff.  No Jaleel McLaughlin in this haul or a Bryce Oliver to rescue the program.   Ethan Wright looks decent and not sure when we'll see the lb transfer from Iowa State.

I hate to see the seating capacity decreased but they always had one of the upper level bleachers pushed almost every game so it's probably not a problem.

Alex Howard had a monster game vs Northwestern with 14 tackles.

Dylan Wudke had 3 tackles vs Illinois.

Tyjon Jones 6 tackles vs ULM.

Chris Fitzgerald 5 tackles and a sack vs Gardner webb.

I might put a bullet in this thread since a few posters seem to indicate that good riddance and let's move on.  Not sure that we have adequately replaced these guys but don't want to beat a dead horse and hopefully the YSU defense emerges.
