Eugene, Oregon -- Youngstown State sophomore Connor Neu concluded his first season with the Penguins placing 15th in the hammer throw on Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Neu, who was the eighth thrower in the first flight, opened with a throw of 59.93 meters (196 feet, 7 inches) before marking a throw of 63.61 meters (208-8) on his second attempt. Neu fouled on his third and final attempt.

Neu qualified for nationals after setting a school record with a throw of 66.19 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 30.

Twenty-four student-athletes competed in the hammer throw and Neu will be recognized as a second-team All-American.

Neu joins senior Bobby Grace as second-team All-Americans. Grace finished 14th in the shot put with a throw of 19.14 meters (62-9.5 feet).

Kent State's Matthias Tayala won the event with a throw of 73.57 meters (241-4).
