YSU Penguin Athletics / Massey Ratings.

YSU fares well in this BCS style ranking system. The SOS is #11 which really helps at 7-4 with a good "W" over Indy State. Keeping the fingers crossed LOL!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Favorite players thread.
« on: October 30, 2012, 11:30:23 AM »
Since this has become a doom and gloom board I thought we could talk positive for a minute.

Pick a player from the "O" and "D" and give a short reason why he's your favorite player.

My "O" pick is #25  All I hear is how great he is in the class room/community and one of the best team mates a team can have.

My "D" pick is #52 Plays all out sadly one player can't be everywhere.

SD Up 24-0 at half time then end up losing 35-24.  ;D

See folks!! Even the big league coaches and players has these days  ::)

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU The FANS!! Really?!?!
« on: October 15, 2012, 10:00:18 AM »
I've been holding off on this post until the ship was sinking.

The day YSU beat Pitt I called my brother and said we are in trouble now! The expectations the fans will have of this team because they beat Pitt will be unbearable. In reality Pitt would finish between 4 - 7th in the MVFC.

1. Hell we beat a very good Albany team and all I read was a bunch of b****ing about the defense.
  a. Truth: YSU would have lost that game if Albany had the depth. They made the adjustments to YSU's offense. The Albany coaching staff shut YSU down in the second half.

2. NDSU wanted redemption and YSU was not ready for the on slough. Where did the emotions go at YSU especially with the football team.
  a. Truth: Total team melt down. NDSU's coaches figured out YSU offense in about 7 minutes of the game.

3. ISUr playing desperate at home after an embarrassing loss on home coming.
  a. Truth: ISUr's coaching staff took about 27 minutes to figure out YSU's offense and shut them down.

Bottom Line: The Coaching staff has some accountability issues and won't man up to that. What is the strength of this team (offense) is always figured out by a better coaching staff and sadly the defense is not a priority anymore and has to suffer through the coaches inability to make adjustments and changes necessary to keep offensive number high. Look back throughout the last two seasons of statistical data, it's plain to see that the OC/team can't get it done for one whole game (4 qtrs) in this league. The only time this is accomplished is against lesser competition (Valpo x 2, St Francis, WIU last year). In a perfect world YSU's Defense could play lights out and hold leads for 2 or more qtrs. Wolf has recruited well on paper but it appears to me they're paper tigers and don't have football toughness. All very good athletes, fast good kids, but the hardnosed slobber knocking football skills are not there.  A thought I had, was to slow down on recruiting the local talent (best is usually picked over anyways) and southern speed burners. Let's go out and get some of the mid-western corn feed kids that have the above mentioned skills.

Let's keep the faith. We have some work to do and can do wonderful in the playoffs. It's time to stop beating up the offense and defense players and let the coaches know we'll support them "IF" they do what's necessary to make positive changes because what was working is now broke. 9-2 is obtainable stay positive and as always GoooooooGuins!!

1.  >:( Sore subject I know but The UNI AD tweets about the FBS.  Here's someone's take on the situation below;

2.  ??? Question: "IF" the MAC is really looking to add 5 new football schools in the future I wonder how the YSU administration might approach this? ???

Quote: From "Clenz" I'm not sure where you get the "MVFC IS GOING FBS" thing from. This was a tweet by UNI's athletic director....the person he retweeted was former UNI LB (who now starts for the Cleveland Browns) L.J. Fort.

This could be "much ado about nothing", but Dannen is a smart person, he doesn't just "put things out there". There is something going on. I know the athletic department has had some very serious discussions about this the last couple years, they've just kept it quite unlike most schools that end up looking foolish with the "WE GOING FBS! THIS CONFERENCE IS THE CHOICE" then the conference says "NO" and you're left holding a raging boner for nothing.

I know the MAC is looking for at least one more (possibly 5 as they've said they wouldn't mind 18 teams). If UNI is looking at this as a football only move it might work for the department. HOWEVER, I do not see UNI doing anything that requires us to take the rest of our sports from the Missouri Valley Conference.

What's the challenge here?  ::) I'd say staying healthy and don't give the MVFC any good game film  ;)

Valpo is ranked # 246 out of 246 in Div 1 football according to Sagarins  :-[

I think he's just a little more than impressed by the Guins!!  ;D

Here is my top 25 ballot for The Sports Network media poll. The philosophy: I start over more than look at last year (but still take last year into account), meaning I take a look at the first week’s games and pick out the most impressive win for No. 1, in this case Youngstown State’s victory over Big East Pitt, and then try to rate them from there. Certainly, never an exact science.

■1. Youngstown State
■2. NDSU
■3. Sam Houston State
■4. Georgia Southern
■5. Eastern Washington
■6. Montana State
■7. Old Dominion
■8. James Madison
■9. Northern Iowa
■10. McNeese State
■11. Appalachian State
■12. Wofford
■13. Montana
■14. Indiana State
■15. Towson State
■16. New Hampshire
■17. Delaware
■18. Illinois State
■19. Stony Brook
■20. Liberty
■21. Maine
■22. Eastern Illinois
■23. Stephen F. Austin
■24. Central Arkansas
■25. William & Mary
