Really surprised by the lack of lineman. I thought, and hoped, we'd load up.

Couple of nice gets there. Thanks as always for the updates Chief.

Without intending a shot at ANY previous Penguin athlete, I am of the opinion that Chad Zallow is the GOAT of YSU athletics!  Way to go Chad!

You could certainly make a strong argument for him. Very impressive

If the MAC would drop down that would be IDEAL for us, and probably at least half their member programs, if they were being honest with themselves.

I'm sure they would still find excuses to not play us LOL. Some of the best times I had were the Kent and Akron games I would love to play them again.

Thrift has decommitted.

Always hate to see that, but he did have some big time offers. Would have been a nice get.

You guys are in the LaLa land of make believe that an FCS championship run is better than moving up.  Ask Boise St how it worked for them. Other than your teams fans nobody cares about FCS football. The Bison could pull it off like Boise did.  I don’t see many of the BCS teams wanting to drop down for a championship run!  It’s about exposure not minor football championships.  As for the costs of the football program I think the students are footing most of the bill to pay for football at YSU.   If that was taken away we would be another Butler.

I don't give a sh** if other people around the country know who we are or care. I'd rather go to the playoffs than the WhoTheHellCares Bowl brought to you by Dollar Tree.

What's about exposure? Every team has their games available to everyone now......I can pick from about a hundred games every Saturday.

If you're worried about costs, ask the administrations at places like Kent and Akron if they like losing millions a year to play "big time" football. They are guaranteed to lose money every single season with ZERO chances at ever winning anything outside of a conference championship and a garbage bowl.

If you think the prospects for a fun year are better at a school like that, go watch them. Enjoy that big time atmosphere LOL.

I am surprised that NDSt hasn't moved up to the FBS level, they would make a lot more money. They would not dominate the FBS level like they do the FCS level, but they would get into FBS bowls maybe some high paying ones.

So. Dakota St. is a good team, but NDSt controlled the offense and their defense is vey good.

Not sure about that. I know some teams have lost money on lesser bowl games. I’m sure they make plenty of return on investment with all the publicity they receive as a powerhouse in FCS.

If I were a NDSU fan I’d rather dominate in FCS than become irrelevant in FBS.

Yeah I agree. A playoff run and a National title are a lot more fun. Georgia Southern and App State both had very good seasons. And their reward? They're playing in bowl games that I neither know when they are played or what they are called. How glamorous.

just give the trophy to the Bison.  They play at another level.

I don't think changing coaches will hurt them much. Losing their Sr QB might, but I doubt it. They are just so sound.

I bet whatever coach they hire doesn't mind recruiting haha. They have 3 FR QB just waiting. All 6'3" they know what they like and just reload.

That is what I figured just to kind of specialty crap that we do not need. We need meat and potatoes

That 265lb RB sounds right up your alley IAA.  :afro:

There's the thunder we've been missing lol.

I'm guessing they are looking at him for DT?

You know it’s going to happen there. South Dakota state does not match up well with North Dakota State. Bison always blow them out

I watched some of NDSU's game. They put a graphic up that showed their playoff record against the rest of FCS since they started their run of titles. I believe they are 3-0 against SDSU, and no reason to believe that will change.

I also saw the EWU game, and they won't beat the Bison either. Won't be close.

I've not seen Maine but I don't think Im going out on a limb to say they would also be heavy underdogs.

We don’t have top 10 let alone top 15 talent. Our best player on offense by far was McCaster.  He might be a first team all conference.  That’s it on offense.  Defense was horrible none of those guys are first teamers maybe The senior LB and Savin Smith might get on the all conference.  We lack Div 1 depth. Whenever the Bison or South Dakota have an injury the next guy up is almost as good. Between Coaching and takent we are what our record is a bottom tier team in the conference.  Don’t forget how many games our kicker hurt us and we never recruited to replace him.

I disagree on the talent eval. I blame our game planning, preparation and in game adjustments for our failure this year as much as the talent. Our coordinators were in over their heads. They need to get much better, fast.

I cannot argue the shortcomings of our kicking game.

Most teams on our level lack D1 depth. Thats what you get with 63 scholarships.

Our roster is good enough to make the playoffs. Its not good enough to win the league. Our failure to develop a QB is particularly terrifying.

You think Lamar has more talent?  If you have EPSN+ I would invite you to watch some of these teams that made the playoffs. Full scholarship teams only, we know there are a lot of pretenders out there.

I thought his articles had been neither pro nor against the program for all these years. He had some good insight and analysis on the YSU games. I actually enjoyed the football and basketball report/analysis better on the Warren Tribune than on the Vindy. Vargo had some good reports on YSU MBB.
There was not a single article on Vindy on the YSU's win over Westminister (Tribune had an article)....... So much for home town news paper.
Deadline was 9:30 on Wednesday night. Game started at 7. We shot the game and held for the final score and a few details. Nature of the beast with Thanksgiving inserts and such. Same deal for as long as I can remember.

Ed,

Why were Sclazo's write-ups available to non-subscribers? I live in Georgia and don't subscribe because most vindy news isn't relevant.  I would subscribe to a football season only sports package.    most papers make you answer some sort of survey to read.  Vindy now doesn't allow it.  Have you thought about changing the business model?

All the YSU stories should be available on our website. If you're not seeing them, let me know and I'll see what I can do to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks Ed. I know you guys get beat up pretty regularly but those of us not in the area appreciate the stories you folks post.

I see that Northern Iowa won 16-13.  Watched some of the game on line and the Lamar field goal kicker missed 2 makeable field goals and an extra point.  Northern Iowa could have easily lost.

Other teams in the playoffs do not look like they could be better than us. We need to just get in.

I watched some of the UNI game and I agree. We probably have top 10, maybe top 15 talent at worst. But you cant implode 3-4 Saturdays a year and expect to get in. we've seen how that works out for the past decade.

Anyway, we were better than both of those teams IMO.

Incarnate Word made it at 6-4 from the Southland conference, they were a Div 2 school what 5 yrs ago.  Duquesne made it. But we sit home again.

Don't hold your breath waiting for sweeping change. It may very well be needed but I don't see anyone having the cajones enough to pull the trigger.
