Game day! Hope the Guins can take this team seriously and dominate!

I would think the guys got a lifetime's lesson about taking things seriously last year against Butler  >:(

If we can start 4-0, win half our games in the conference we are playoff bound  ;D

Don't rain on my parade with logic.

One of the betting sites show Duquesne having a 48% chance to win

Massey ratings gives us an 83% chance of winning, I like that number better lol

For what the betting line is worth, ESPN app has us listed at -14.5. I believe it was -13.5 a few days ago.

I would place ZERO stock in their level of analysis as the link for more info provided ZERO additional info.

Special teams are awful.

Yes sir. Very concerning when a coach is this far along in his tenure and they are still bad. All the players on the roster are Bo's guys, so no excuses.

These breakdowns should not be happening with such alarming regularity.

Mays is a much better passer this year then last. I did not say he was a great passer; if he was, he would not have been sitting behind Wells, as Wells had no legs. Why would you think Mays is some great runner? He is a clear drop-back guy. What you saw on the other side was a running QB. That being said, this team operates well under Mays and he is "clearly" the man until injury or Craycraft dramatically improves his game.

Also, Craycraft or Waid will not start for this team after 2019.

This may be just me, but I consider Mays a running QB due to the large amount of read option and RPO we run.

I know he is not a great runner. He is slow and runs to contact. He appears to be trying to correct the latter and save some punishment, with mixed results.

He's a worse passer  than a runner so there is no way I would ever consider him a pocket passer, and that's not what he's asked to do in this system to this point.

Craycraft or Waid will be starting this year because Mays can't stay healthy.

I have no idea what you expect to be the QB situation for next year but I did get a nice LOL out of that, so thank you.

Sloppy. Selfish and dumb penalties. Special teams continue to disappoint.

Fix the dumb mistakes and special teams and we can be decent.

That was a good offense we faced and once we decided to contain the QB in the pocket they couldn't do much outside of looking for #81 every pass play.

Our D line is phenomenal.

2 weeks to improve and get ready for a home game.

I don't think anyone predicted a game this lopsided, yet some of us sound like we were on the losing end of things.

Enjoy it, lets see what kinds of improvements we see on the 7th. Things like special teams overages are very fixable. If we don't see improvements, then its time for concern.

Outside of O line, a lot of guys saw some time. That's a huge plus. Let's see how the coaches take advantage of this extra week of practice.

Run the ball and play sound defense. Let the D-Line wreak havoc and I predict a YSU winner.

We seem pretty inexperienced at DT. How are they looking chief?

ET,

Pelini's first radio program is this evening.  We may or may not learn more today.

Most of you could not care less about this, but the NCAA is celebrating the 150th anniversity of absolutely nothing.  The notion that Rutgers and Princeton played the first "football" game in 1869 is as ridiculous as the myth that Abner Doubleday created baseball.  Yes, students from those schools met and played a game....it was like freakin' soccer.  You advanced the ball by KICKING it or batting it with your hand.  You COULD NOT RUN WITH THE BALL and you COULD NOT TACKLE ANYBODY. >:(

REAL FOOTBALL evolved from rugby which students from McGill University in Canada introduced to Harvard students in 1874.  The next year, Harvard and Yale played a rugby style game much more similar to real football than that soccer-like junk.  A young Yale student played in that game.... Walter Camp.  He would subsequently be the central force in forming football out of rugby over the next several decades as the Yale team captain and then long-time coach.

Sorry for this rant.

Just kidding Wick, your rant is totally valid.  :afro:

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Largest FCS stadiums-YSU makes the cut
« on: July 17, 2019, 08:15:51 PM »
Interesting.  And seven of those who finished ahead of us are historically black schools that undoubtedly played "home" games off campus in large cities with significant African-American populations.  Those games are important community events in the South that date back to the brutal days of complete racial segregation.  In "on-campus" only games, we probably are still in the top ten in attendance, which might well be a reflection of the state of FCS football across the nation.
Boy 1AA, I knew you have pretty important persons on your blog, but this almost reads like POTUS Trump is a member!  Blacks in black towns don't count when you are figuring attendance for black schools?  Maybe we should count them as 3/5ths of a white person like the US Constitution did?

Way to completely miss what he was saying there champ. Where did he remotely infer that black fans didn't or shouldn't count?

What he was actually saying was, a lot of the HBCU games are rivalry games that are held in bigger cities where they can draw upon a larger pool of fans. And he's right.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Transfers
« on: May 19, 2019, 07:28:23 PM »
Farrar is listed on the 2019 football roster as having junior eligibility.  So how can he be classified as a grad transfer if he did not graduate? (unless he graduated in three years, including a transfer....virtually impossible.)  So if he is not a grad transfer, how can he play next year at Auburn after moving from FCS to FBS?  Or does he just intend to play baseball and is the transfer rule for that sport different from football?
And if he was not injured, why did he get beat out for playing time last season by receivers that did not begin their college careers at Oklahoma?  This whole thing is weird.

He is graduating this summer. He was in Bo's dog house all year. Our most talented WR but once mid year came, he was out of the rotation.

We're not good enough to put our best players on the bench. This is a huge mistake by this staff.

But no media scrutiny about things like this, no accountability, no tough questions to answer.

Quite the change from Nebraska.

We'd rather be mediocre and hold grudges haha.

Now some bad football news....WR Zach Farrar has left the program as a grad transfer.

That stinks. I thought he was really talented, I don't know if he got in the dog house or was injured but his playing time dried up, so I can't blame the kid.

Tough loss.

I got a call from the ticket office today about picking up season tickets.

When I mentioned the East stands, he stated that the parking lot there will be a new tailgate lot. $175 per season.

If you were hoping for low cost handicap spots to return you're out of luck.

I will probably drive in from NC to watch this.

Before I moved I couldn't care less if I drove the 45 minutes needed to watch us play the likes of Bobby Mo or Duquesne.

Say what you want about return games, I don't give a crap abput that.

Football is a recreational activity. Entertainment, pure and simple. As a consumer I would much rather see YSU\Akron than any other non-conference game in recent memory. To me, this is a great event. Another game against a Pioneer\NEC league team isn't. I don't need or want to see another one of those as long as I live unless its after Thanksgiving.

This is a rivalry, and I for one am glad its back, even if its a one and done.
