Jimmy (Tressel) cracked corn....and I don't care. Thanks for the memories Jimmy. Thanks for the Watts money, also. Tress and his wife could live 10 lifetimes and not spend all of the money they have, and YSU put him on the map--so there is some reciprocation there. But really, Ohio State could crash into that longed name river and I'll still sleep tonight.

I think Boldon has the wom. on the right track.  They should only improve next year with most everyone back.  Nice job Boldon!  Maybe he can coach the mens team as well.
Who, besides you, would welcome everyone back from a 6-24 team? There will be several roster changes--hopefully for the better. T. Jones (1-16 last night) couldn't beat Lecter in a game of H-O-R-S-E!!

Wick--with the state of today's economy and expected high amount of budget cuts when Fuhrer Kasich does his State budget, any additional monies appropriated for any athletic program must be cleared by the board. They had to sign off on all of the additional football money used when Wolford came, and, quite frankly, the board seems to care not a lick what happens in basketball as long as we don't give the university a black eye. Many monies are Title IX earmarked and Strollo has been told in the recent past no new monies for basketball. Now this can change down the road, but I wouldn't look for it. I couldn't even tell you who's on the board except Schulick so I don't know who specifically is involved.

Decent read and looks at both sides. You can make a point that we are getting better, albeit very slowly, but I do agree that Slocum needs to work a little on his approach to the press and supporters. I just hate to listen to him pre or post game. I think that he thinks he is funny but he comes across as cold and a touch bitter.

Oouch, we spend less on men bb then the zits do on women, that sucks. But I blame our AD for that, plain and simple. Strollo is in way over his head as AD. Maybe we need another assistant AD to help figure it all out.
Why do you blame Strollo for the distribution of money to basketball? He doesn't decide that--the YSU board decides that. If it were up to him, he would greatly increase the money men's basketball gets. Whatever shortcomings you feel he has, that's not a fair criticism. His hands are tied.

Valpo's a basketball school---YSU is a football school. If you're a solid mid-major player and you have your choice of those two schools, where are you going? On the recruiting visit, they'll show you the Drew kid making the 27 footer to win an NCAA game against Ole Miss. We can show you Jeff Covington making layups in 1976. Your move.

This is another game that could have been won!  Get some damn big guys so we don't keep getting hammered and the boards.  Eargle can't do it all himself.  What does Slocum against reccruiting 6-9, 6-10 inside players?
What on God's green earth makes you think he doesn't want good 6-9, 6-10 kids? They aren't falling over each other to come to YSU. How many have we had over the last, say, 20 years?

Wick is right, we rarely pull schollies. That being said, I believe Boldon has free reign to do what he feels is necessary, so don't be surprised if he pulls some. He's not the kind to sit around and wait to improve. The only problem with that is bringing in TOO MANY kids at the same time. He may hang on to a schollie or two for 2012-2013.

Wick--they had high hoped for Rohrs, who I'm told, is done and will not play anymore. A real shame. Schlegel is a player and would really help now as some of these kids are starting to wear out due to a lack of depth. They've also had some bad luck with recruits the last few years being homesick and leaving before ever playing here. Also current player and a recruit that was touted, Melissa Thompson has a bad knee and will not help much going forward. I agree, Boldon will be fine, but to say it's an uphill struggle is the understatement of the year.

402
Wick--I totally agree with you and feel your pain but wasn't Jenkins a Martin recruit, not Hill? Of course, when it comes to lousy recruits and destroying the program, Hill and Martin are interchangeable.

Unless he resigns on his own, Jerry Slocum will be YSU's bkb coach next year.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Guins vs Valpo
« on: February 06, 2011, 02:23:04 PM »
Indy--hoops is 1000% correct. Hand checking is not legal and the fact that Valpo pushed, shoved, and hand-checked the whole game and yet shot 40 free throws to YSU's 23 is a travesty. Not excusing this for the result because if YSU had taken better care of the ball in the 2nd half, they win regardless. However, this is yet another ongoing prejudice against this basketball program from this league. Goofy-smiled commissioner LeCrone (anyone else get that he and also goofy-smiled phony Homo Drew might be twins?) needs to have a sit-down with YSU athletic heads because this is an on-going travesty that needs corrected, IMHO.

Indy--it was almost worth all of those close losses this year to beat that team. Thrilling win to say the least. Crowd wasn't really into it until late--I think most of them came to see Butler and were disappointed they didn't blow us out and wow the crowd. Onr thing you can say about this team--they do have alot of heart.
