Notice the difference between how our linebackers play and their linebackers play. Their LBs play a key role in containing the outside run. Our LBs are missing in action. Their running game wouldn't be looking so good if our LBs backed up the D-line.

The offense is fine. We've been moving the ball. Defense had 2 big stops at the end of the first half. Just stupid mistakes, penalties and turnovers are killing us.

At least not one at home. Congrats Wolf, that half of football just confirmed all of our worst fears. They do not get any easier the rest of the way.
Get down to some ball control. Bench Stubbs and Childs. Dial-up some pressure. This inability to pound the ball makes me sick to my stomach. USD's line is not even breathing heavy, as all we do is fail with finesse.

Maybe when Tressel is at Stambaugh in a few weeks he can tell Wolford 6 isnt always better than 3. Mark my words this guy will lose a critical game by not taking the points. He is a hard head. I know the game has evolved but Tressel and Paterno won a lot of games kicking field goals.....

LOL.. When was the last time you played a snap? The defense has been forgotten since Wolford has taken over. The offense is good as long as the other coaching staff is bad.. The last time I've seen enjoyable football at YSU was 2006

Common sense when your losing tells you you cant throw away a 3rd down, a punt return could just as easilly go for a TD. if the OL blocks worth a damn YSU wouldn't be struggling so much

We played sloppy and won. We also overcame foolish coaching errors like clock management, 4th down tries, two point conversions, and the use of time outs as well as bad referee's.

Yep agreed. I was hard on him for the fumbles but in the end. The offense goes as he goes. And he lead us to victory!

Do not agree. No coach prior to Wolf would lose this type of game. Coach H, T and N teams gave 100% all the time. I would go so far as to say that coach H was the best of the 3 coaches in protecting a win. Coach T always lost big regular season games. Narduzzi teams always went down "swinging".
That being said, USD is a very talented team, we just had a C+ effort today.

Wow! Hess snatches a victory from the jaws of defeat for the second time this year on the road. Are we starting to believe yet? One more win solidifies the play-offs and then who knows. You know UNI will be gunning for us, and trying to ruin our season. USD deserves kudos for playing us tough, but this should have not been this close! That being said, look out for them in the future! They are up and coming, and will be scary! I don't think this conference can get any tougher than what it is! Miss St. vastly improved, USD, SDst, UNi and ND St. not to mention Ill St and SIU. Penguins deserve a great amount of credit for being undefeated in this meat grinder! Great football conference, great basketball conference. What more could YSU fans ask for? Love ya all back home, and thinking about all Penguin fans while listening out here in the great state of Colorado. Go Penguins.

The issue isn't Wolford vs. previous coaches but this year's team vs. last year's team. At half time this game was starting to turn into last year's Illinois State game, but the team got its act together. This win has got to be a confidence builder. I still want the pass defense fixed. :)

UNI got beat today. YSU is in with the 8 wins needed. We got lucky today. Too many personal fouls and ragged OL & DL play, not to mention a porous secondary. And I was surprised to see old Joe Glenn across the field as SD coach. He was formerly a Montana coach of great success.

Somebody would have to crunch the numbers, but I think that we are statistically a pretty good defense on first and second downs. On third down, we convert into the scariest horror show ever created. This is not a rant but a serious question. What can we do to stop teams from completing those ten yard passes over the middle on third and eight? Should we not at least be able to clog up that one glaring hole?

Well put. I don't know. I watched us bite on that trick play they tried to run. I watched us bite on the 5 wide qb draw they ran. NDSU is going to run a 5 wide QB draw or do a flea flicker and score on us because we are so inept at time on defense.
When our DB's let people get behind them consistently we give up those 3rd down conversions. Childs and Peterman had terrible games. Tresey chewed on Child's ear when he let that WR get behind him. I don't get it, but they won.
