That 265lb RB sounds right up your alley IAA. :afro:
There's the thunder we've been missing lol.
I'm guessing they are looking at him for DT?

Yes. Recruited as a DL but he is pretty nimble lol.

Mark Waid, QB from Girard also coming to YSU.

I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere. Is that your opinion, or did you get that info from someone you deem to be a reliable source?
-
Staff is really on Waid to flip and sign here. Also on his WR Nick Maltio. Gave him an offer recently.
-
Looks like nothing has changed. Do we even know how to recruit a "team"? No line, no RB's. Initially, I thought it was because the media does not wish to cover the big guys, but I don't think that is it. Certainly a runniinb back would be a top mention (maybe behind QB).

Don't give up on Jelani Stafford's career as a RB until you watch his HUDL highlights! Seriously, he could have a 2 way career as a short yardage RB along with DT.

Wonder where he is going?

DALLAS — Beaver Local senior Garrett Givens will be playing in the annual Blue-Grey All-American Bowl on Monday at AT&T Stadium.
“It’s a great honor to be selected to a national bowl game where I will be able to represent my school and area in Dallas Cowboys stadium,” Givens said. “I believe it would be great to wrap up my senior season with a win.”
Givens, a 6-foot-2, 225-pounder, will be an inside linebacker for the East squad wearing No. 32.
He was selected as one of the top 90 senior high school football players out of 6,750 who competed at the Blue-Grey All-American combines.
Givens has been a four-year starter for the Beavers and three-year captain for the Beavers. He collected more than 350 career tackles, including 101 this season along with 806 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns.
The Beaver Local standout was nominated for the three-day event, by former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Byron Evans.
Givens will be featured during a national media dinner, where he will meet with 24/7 Sports, USA Today, Rivals and the Impact Football Network on the first night.
Practices will be held Saturday and Sunday at South Grand Prairie High.
The game will be carried by the New Impact Football Network with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Just the kind of player my daughter would like! (she doesn't care of they can play, it's how they look. Her favorite NFL player? Brady Quinn)

Mark Waid = YSU per Ed Puskas on twitter.

Yep. Has been headed that way for the last couple weeks. Bo was able to seal the deal. I bet this kid is starting halfway through the year.

I know everyone’s high on this guy, but what happened to Cunningham? I thought he was our next stud QB?

From today's Vindy:
Girard QB Waid picks YSU
December 13, 2018 at 12:09a.m.
All-Ohio Girard QB will join Youngstown State family
By Brian Dzenis
bdzenis@vindy.com
Mark Waid got a taste of Stambaugh Stadium this fall and decided he wants to come back for more.
The Girard quarterback has committed to playing football at Youngstown State, the senior confirmed Wednesday night. He made his Stambaugh debut on Nov. 3 in a 34-30 playoff win against East.
He entered the season committed to Fordham, but ultimately decided it was best to stay home.
“I have nothing but respect for Fordham, it’s a great university, but it didn’t feel like home,” Waid said. “When we played East and I got on the field, I got the chills. I just felt like this is where I’m supposed to be.
“It’s special to do this for the Valley and this community with great people and great coaches. It just feels like home.”
Waid, Ohio’s third all-time leader in passing yards, is coming off a 13-2 season with the school’s first appearance in the Division IV state finals, a 42-14 defeat to Cincinnati Wyoming.
Waid will graduate early, enroll at YSU and be able to participate in spring practice. He’ll be reunited with longtime receiver Michael Belcik as well as some of his opponents.
“[Belcik] played a big role, he’s been sending me texts. I have some familiarity with the players and that really helped,” Waid said. “There’s great local talent on the team right with Belcik, [Liberty’s] Dra Rushton and [Warren JFK’s] Jake Coates. It’s a special thing.”
He didn’t express any misgivings about head coach Bo Pelini’s contract status, as his current deal expires in February, saying that “coach Pelini will do what’s best for coach Pelini.”
“[QBs coach Joe Ganz, wide receivers coach Tim Marlowe and offensive coordinator Brian Crist] have a special thing brewing and it’s an offense I see myself in and more importantly, it’s a community I see myself in,” Waid said. “I couldn’t be more excited about my decision.
If he makes it on the field in 2019 with Pelini as the head coach, it will be the first time a true freshman quarterback played under Pelini since Cody Green in 2009 at Nebraska.
Waid passed for 4,376 yards and 48 touchdowns in his final season at Girard. He also rushed for 1,776 yards and 26 TDs.

He'll probably go to a big time school. Hell his bench reps are better than 70% of the YSU football team as a high school kid 8)

Never trust high school 40 times. There’s no way this kid runs a 4.51 at his size. Average NFL times for inside and outside lbs are above 4.6
-
If he really had those numbers, he would have offer. Any offers lol
-
There was a video on line of that kid power cleaning like 325 pounds just blew my mind. I don't think he was selected to the all star game by way of politics. Some kids have know desire to play in college or can't even come close to making the grade. This athlete probably fell into that category

I’m surprised, at 5-10 175 he’s undersized for an FBS safety, he could certainly see the field sooner at YSU, maybe he’ll be a transfer in 2 years.

Steven Victoria, a 5-11 WR from Huber Heights Wayne has committed.

a LB, 2 DBs and a long snapper?
-0- OL?
-0- DL?
LB has really good speed and looks and at 6-2 can get weight up to play LB.
Looks like the class of a pretty paltry group. ( don't recall every signing a long snapper?)

Yes, I get the scholarship thing at FCS, and yes, we did just lose a very good long snapper:
Youngstown State senior long snapper Steven Wethli was named a second-team All-American for his performance during the 2018 season, STATS FCS announced on Tuesday.
Wethli is the first Penguin long snapper to earn All-America honors in school history. He earned first-team All-MVFC honors in 2018 as well, becoming the first YSU long snapper to be a first-team all-conference selection. He was a two-time All-MVFC honoree, earning honorable-mention honors in 2017
But on early recruiting day you list a LS? C'mon man, aren't we serious about this any more? A LS?!?!?!? NO OL, NO DL, just a LB, 2 safeties and a LS? C'mon Man!

Let us hope he is the QB for us (like Mayfield for the Browns).
Does anyone know if he has any IA offers? If not, why not (with his numbers)?
-
Class already "wreaks" of Bo. No meat and potatoes. We are now 3 & 4 deep in some areas and have nothing in others. Where are the JUCO's, they always sign early. Let's just look at our team:
Why a long-snapper, when we lose Vitas at Center?
At corner we lose Lee and Latham. I like them both, but we 8 (yes 8) underclassmen
At DB, no one graduates and we have 3 of 4 red-shirted (or played as a frosh).
At DE we do lose Williams, Reed Sims and Lauigene, but we do have seven (yes 7) returning, We had 12 DE's on the roster at one point. What the heck?
At Free safety, we do lose Larkin, still have 2.
We have 12 LB's right now, losing Dellovade. Gee can we find 2 in the remaining 11 players?
I realize the game is changing, but when was the last time we recruited someone at center on the D? You cannot always blitz from the ends and teams with 2 backs just kill us.
We lose 3 guards and 2 tackles on the OL. This leaves 12. Of those 12, 6 of them will be seniors (with only 2 of those guys having ever seen a start).
We currently have 5 QB's returning. Mays will be the only senior. Seems like we must be dumping the remaining 3 of coach Shane's guys or our current staff simply cannot recruit this position?
Kudos to McCaster for adding some explosiveness to his game this year, but we need more and he was the starter. I know we are heavy on TB's in the roster, we should have been able to red-shirt Rushton and Smith.
WR's? We can lose half of what we have (17) and still have too many. Let's just see some play.
-

He's 6-2 so he's no "Baker the Touchdown Maker"! I see offers from Fordham where he committed and decommitted, Cornell, Dartmouth, Robert Morris. I wonder if the early commit to Fordham made others shy away? Also, with Fordham, Cornell and Dartmouth, looks the the kid is no dummy, which is always good!
-
Waid did not receive any 1A offers, let's be honest, had he, then YSU would not have gotten him. Not even low end MAC. Let's hope they made a mistake and he becomes a star at the FCS level. His two biggest offers were YSU and Fordham.

Chief, you come across as very condescending and dismissive hear, which is not appreciated, so to keep things in prospective, this is what NDSU did today:
North Dakota State football coach Matt Entz announced the addition of 25 student-athletes to the Bison program including four recruited walk-ons Wednesday, Dec. 19, the first day of the three-day early signing period in Division I football.
The recruiting class includes a transfer quarterback from Iowa State and players from high schools in eight states including North Dakota (3), Minnesota (8), Wisconsin (4), Illinois (4), Iowa (2), Florida (1), Kansas (1) and Ohio (1).

C.J. is a fine player and a good get for the Guins. I don't think he was heavily recruited as other top running backs in the state because of his size, plus he came from a Division 5 school. Reminds me of a Ruiz just needs to get in the weighroom. Had offers from Brown, Dayton, Notre dame college and was offered last year by YSU I believe. Would have been nice to see YSU extend an offer to Sr. Gilmour LB Jack Kosar..really good player at 6"3 220 and very strong..He is committed to Brown not sure if he has signed yet and is the nephew of Bernie Kosar..only he is much faster!!

a LB, 2 DBs and a long snapper?
-0- OL?
-0- DL?
LB has really good speed and looks and at 6-2 can get weight up to play LB.
Looks like the class of a pretty paltry group. ( don't recall every signing a long snapper?)
Well, Chief, it's now a couple weeks later and this is the score sheet as I show it today:

The left side is NDSU the right side is YSU. Note the lack of "what's needed" for YSU especially OL. I was also struck by the height of the NDSU recruits. No weight but great height. Weight room should really work for these guys. We have holes all over the OL. At best we NEED 2 tackles, a guard and center and we recruited 1 guy? Aren't we serious any more?

At least a good special teams guy to start but at 6-3 wouldn't be hard to see him at 235 in a year and playing some LB. gotta love 1AA and things like "partial scholarships" and "preferred walk-ons"
There is an interesting website called Verbal Commits
http://www.verbalcommits.com/schools/youngstown-state
This is MBB I understand, but scroll down a bit and look at the complete scholarship status for MBB. How they keep track of who that can go after etc. is damn complicated.

Demetries Ford has committed. 5-9, 170 DB from Miami. Playmaker.
-
maybe we can get a player from Malone
-
Andres Lehrmann, a 6-2, 230 LB from Doral, FL has committed.
-
Couple more commitments:
Dylan Stenson: 6-0, 190 WR/DB from Pine Richland (PA)
Troy Jakubec: 6-0, 180 WR/DB from Warren Harding
-
maybe we can get a player from Malone
Don’t think we want them

Dylan Wudke 6'4 215 lb. TE/DE from Miamisburg, Oh.
Alex Howard 6'2 210 lb. LB from Mt. Healthy hs. in Cincinnati, Oh.
Issac Hadley 6'0 225 lb. Warren JFK
-
Really surprised by the lack of lineman. I thought, and hoped, we'd load up.
-
I am by no means a recruiting specialist but these seem to be marginal FCS and DII players from the highlights.

Everybody needs depth and special team players, but I think Alex Howard has potential to contribute on D. He had a ton MAC as well some ACC, Big 12 and Big 10 interest. Missed 4 games as senior hurt recruiting but can carry much more than 210 at 1AA level.
-
So is Hadley a FB, or another on the long list of DE's? He is local, does anybody know anything about him? Can he handle a DI running back position?
-
Tre Radford, a 6-3 WR from Twinsburg has committed.
-
Aydrik Ford, a 5-9 slot WR from Massillon has committed.

Great job of bringing the goods ytownchief22 .

This isn't exactly recruiting, but does involve the roster. I see Justus Reed listed on the 2019 roster. Did he receive a medical red-shirt?

YSU adding to area players

YOUNGSTOWN — Like millions of other football fans, Warren G. Harding senior Troy Jakubec watched the Super Bowl, but unlike most of those fans, he noticed something interesting about the New England Patriots.
They had two players from Youngstown State on their roster. Sure, Jakubec made his decision to be part of the Penguins 2018-19 recruiting class before the Patriots won it all, but YSU players simply being in the NFL just a few years after finishing with the Penguins factored heavily into his decision.
“That plays a big role because that’s everybody’s dream is going to the NFL,” Jakubec said, “and when you see people coming out of YSU and making it to the Super Bowl, winning Super Bowl rings and stuff, it plays a big role.”
The list of area recruits on YSU keeps growing annually, and it seems to become more impressive each year. Bo Pelini and the Youngstown State coaching staff are building the Penguins football team with homegrown talent, and once again it showed on National Signing Day.
While the big name was Trumbull County Player of the Year Mark Waid, the second straight year YSU signed Trumbull County’s POY, the Girard star quarterback was just one of several area players to join the Penguins.
Waid and Jakubec, a 6-foot-1 defensive back, were joined by Cardinal Mooney’s Cheriff Jamison, a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end, East’s Chris Fitzgerald, a 6-foot, 280-pound defensive tackle, Matt Jones, a former Hubbard offensive lineman who’s transferring from West Virginia University as a graduate student, and Poland’s Colten McFadden, who also is transferring to YSU after spending two seasons at Kent State.
Those are just the scholarship players. Several other local standouts are preferred walk-ons, including John F. Kennedy’s Isaac Hadley (LB/FB), McDonald’s Alex Cintron (RB) and Josh Celli (athlete), Lakeview’s Tony Crish (RB/WR/DB), East’s Terrence Yeboah, Canfield’s Jarod Tincher and Valley Christian’s Jordan Trowers, among others.
The influx of players has picked up pace since Pelini took over four years ago.
“Just growing up, that’s the local team, so a lot of us go down there and get that college experience right there,” said Jakubec about why so many area players are choosing YSU. “I just want to be a part of it.”
They join an already large contingency of Mahoning Valley players on the roster. The 2017 Trumbull County POY, Dra Rushton of Liberty, was a redshirt freshman last year. JFK’s Jake Coates was a kick and punt returner the last two years. Boardman’s Wesley Thompson is a former walk-on who is now a starting defensive lineman for the Penguins.
“They see that there are guys who made the most of the opportunity,” said Pelini, who later indicated he plans to re-sign with YSU in the very near future. “You look at Wes Thompson, and there are a number of kids who have come in here. I try to sell them on the fact that if you come and you do the right things in this program, number one, you’re going to have a chance to play because we’re going to reward kids. We don’t care whether you’re on scholarship or a walk-on. If you earn the opportunity, you’re going to play. Kids like that.”
Waid and McFadden enrolled at YSU in January, and Waid has made it known he hopes to compete for the starting QB job.
The door is open after the graduation of incumbent starter Montgomery VanGorder. Pelini said spot starter Nathan Mays recently underwent surgery to his leg, but he expects him to take part in spring practices, which start Feb. 24. Pelini has spoke highly of quarterback Joe Craycraft as well, a sophomore for YSU who has yet to throw a collegiate pass.
Pelini didn’t rule out Waid earning the job, but it won’t be easy.
“The physical part of it isn’t (going to be more difficult) because we’re not going to hit our quarterback in the spring,” said Pelini of the challenges of a quarterback playing as a true freshman. “He’s going to get a jump on the mental side of things (by playing in the spring). He’s going to get 15 practices, 30 meetings or whatever it is during the spring. It’s a lot of time where he can get a chance to learn. That’s going to be a good jump as far as him being able to compete in the fall.”
Overall, 14 of the 20 players YSU signed were either from Ohio or Pennsylvania as the Penguins try to regroup from a down year and take aim at another playoff push.
“The potential is there,” Pelini said. “We have the potential to be a really good football team. We just need to pinpoint certain things that we need to do to become that football team.”

He can't be too high on him, or he would have gotten meaningful reps down the stretch instead of MVG.

Bo Pelini, (AKA Bill Belichick Jr.) Bo always says the right amount of words and usually with a pleasant enough tone and demeanor, but like Bill, he NEVER says anything. Speaking highly but giving -0- reps is NOT saying you have any confidence in Craycraft. Same exact thing could be said for Braxton Chapman. He had one (1) carry all season. Bo keeps recruiting all this 170 lbs. TB's and when he gets a 220 lbs horse, he refused to ride him. Waid has a HUGE advantage vs. Craycraft in that Mark is a good runner. Waid had 1700 yards and 29 TD's rushing as a senior. Bet we never recruited a RB with stats like that!
We seem to have landed a "one & done" center, but still have BIG holes at OT. If we don't keep any of the QB's upright, we won't do crap offensively and it is very unlikely the D will score enough to generate more than a win or at most 2.

I haven't heard for sure yet but I know they were trying.

Thanks for the update. Still being listed on the roster says 1. they got the medical redshirt. or 2. they are still HOPING to get a medical redshirt! If you see anything, please post it. Thanks again.

What is Bricillo doing? Seeing as how the game is win a lost in the trenches I would have expected more. That is not good in my opinion.

Reed got his 6th year.

Would be great for Reed and the Guins if he can stay healthy this year.

That is what I figured just to kind of specialty crap that we do not need. We need meat and potatoes
That 265lb RB sounds right up your alley IAA. :afro:
There's the thunder we've been missing lol.
I'm guessing they are looking at him for DT?
I thought that sounded a bit "big" but watch his HUDL video, bet you wouldn't want any of that! We have used other positions as a short yardage guys in the past, why can't he be our Refrigerator Perry?
