YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU vs Notre Dame

YSU down 8 at half. Umude and Morse have played well.   Hain started but hardly played.  Not sure if he's ill or injured. With  Bobby down and Kaufman suspended makes us weak inside.

We all know it was only GC but the boys did their job by pounding a lower division school.  Let's not forget the football team had to go in ot to beat Robert Morris.

The loss to American was unacceptable.  We were more talented at almost every position but we lacked discipline and they played composed.  Our defense never pressured them for turnovers or made them feel uncomfortable.

Cameron Morse has to be more of a factor.  Anyone who saw the FGCC game saw what kind of ability Cam possess.  And they had some good athletes.

Have to remember it's a young team but the offense should be inside out.  Bobby or the other posts need to seal off better and the spot up shooters need to be ready.      Not expecting much against Purdue.

YSU up 34-31 at half.   Had a double digit lead at one point but hawks made a run and it was mostly on 2nd chance shots.  We are not good on 50/50 ball(loose balls).  Got to limit opponents to one shot.

Just got back from the game.  The guys played their butts off.  A couple of illegal screens call crushed us.  The zone was better tonight and the guards scraped down when the ball went in the post but we still gave too many 2nd chances to FGCU.  Great crowd support for FGCU.    Tough tough loss.  Hope the guys can bounce back from an emotional loss.

3 games in three days.  I'm going to two of the games and the good news is if you love Handel's ice cream(only one in Florida) there is one just 9 miles south of the college.

almost as bad as watching the Browns.  Our zone D was terrible and we're not able to match up man to man.

Bobby came on strong in the 2nd half. Having Umude in foul trouble hurt since he 's our best athletic big.  Kaufman needs to step up his game.  He and Nickels didn't do  a whole lot on the Bahama trip and I'm hoping they step up. Slocum needs to coach them up on rebounding.  Rebounding is about effort and our bigs were slow to the ball.

Would love to see Andrews and Donlan on the floor together. Those two can really stroke it.

On to Toledo.

YSU down 7 at half.  We're getting crushed on the boards and our zone is brutally slow to rotate.  getting punked inside.

Matt Donlan  has shot the ball well.  Slocum needs to have Jordan Andrews and Donlan on the court at the same time.  Santiago has held up well at point guard.  Bobby playing tentative.

I know only one starter remaining but I can see Morse and Umude having breakthrough years. In a perfect world Hain averages 20 & 10. Kaufman can be a solid force down low and the incoming freshman like Andrews and Davis provide some depth. Let's hope and see though!

Go Guins!

I like your optimism.  Umude is an X factor.   Seems like his athletic ability is ahead of his Basketball but he's still  young.  Morse showed signs last season.  Hopefully he will be a consistent scorer.

I booked 3 nights for their 3 games in Ft Meyers.  They better compete!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Slocum's press conference
« on: October 23, 2015, 07:24:33 PM »
He said that Hain will be at the four position and 7'0" transfer Jorden Kaufman will be in the pivot with 6'8" Sydney Ulmude the other big upfront.   Slocum said this his biggest lineup since he's been here.   He seemed excited about Kaufman and I'm suprised since he didn't do much in their summer tour.

Coach spoke about this being a good shooting team at every position.  He singled out transfer Matt Donlan as the best shooter and he did shoot it well in the Bahamas.

I want to be excited but with only one starter back is this a better team with addition through subtraction ?
