Updated

we are down to
Cardinal Mooney
Western Reserve
Girard
Youngstown Christian
Crestview

sad to say i dont think the Valley is bringing home a state title

Cardinal Mooney plays Stuebenville-i think Mooney is gonna get their ass beat by 6-8 TDs
Western Reserve plays Malvern-Western Reserve might be the best shot at the Valleys chance for a state title
Girard plays Black River-Should be another easy win for Girard
Youngstown Christian plays Shadyside-the Feel good story of YC ends here, Shadyside has way too much speed and power
Crestview plays-St. Thomas Aquinas-Crestview should win pretty easy

62
but i think its starting to get close to say YSU is working its way to being back to a powerhouse in FCS

we are just experiance away on D from being a NC contender, too much youth has killed us this year
we have 2 big games left, we win both we could make the playoffs and that much more practice time and another game or 2 will only make us stronger for next year

how many starters do we return next year? i know on D we should only lose 1, not sure on how many on offense

63
the last 25 seconds of the 1st half is the reason we lost
that simple

i have never seen a great D shut down a prolific offense
wish other YSU fans would stop with this "great D wins championships" BS, it has yet to be proven

21,

You display the arrogance of youth, and that is fine.  Young people have demonstrated that characteristic for thousands of years.  But here is a history lesson, whether you want it or not.  The Double Wing, the Single Wing, the T formation, the Winged T, the Wishbone, the I formation, the Veer, and now the Spread.  Each time a new formation became popular, defenses struggled to contain it and pundits predicted that this new offensive scheme was unstoppable.  Guess what.  Over time, defenses made their adjustments and contained each and every offensive scheme.  And in time, defenses will contain the spread.  College football has now entered its fourteenth decade.  In all that time, the best teams have won with dominating defenses.  You might get an occasional 41-39 "Big Game," but at the end of the season champions play the best defense....always.

i hope you dont mean Ursuline isnt a farm team as in they dont recruit kids because thats absolute BS. infact they technically HAVE to recruit kids because they dont have a "home school" district with Middle schools like Austintown or Boardman or canfield, so yes Ursuline 100% DOES recruit as does Mooney

Defense Still Wins Championships

No it doesnt
a great offense in this day in age always beats great defenses, especially when the basic D packages have been around for decades apon decades apon decades, while the offense is always changing which is why teams score more and more points as time goes on

Great Offense=Championship
Great D=Championship Contender, but will get dominated vs a top notch Offense

You must be really young.

Here is the deal.  Go look up every team that has won a National Championship and find out how thier Defense compares to all other teams on a national stage for each year and you will see that defense wins championships.  IF you stop someone from scoring points, you will most likely win the game, you can still score on defense and special teams.   The offense cannot defendthe goal and cannot score without being on the field.  Every great offensive team can be beaten with a great defense.  The only thing the offense can do is allow the defense to rest, which is important, but the defense can become the offense when it scores.

nobody cares about the past, move on old timers

Just look at our four national championships.  Everybody talks about our improbable fourth quarter comeback against Marshall in 1991, but that was only possible because our defense had kept it close by containing Marshall's prolific offense.  In 1993, we gave up 5 points to Marshall in Huntington.  In 1994, we held Boise's high-powered offense to 14, the last 7 in garbage time.  We won the 1997 championship over McNeese 10-9.  We are all enjoying this high scoring offense, but we don't become serious players on the upper rung of FCS until we rebuild that defense.

100% false
who cares what happened in the 90s? get over it already, those days in football are DEAD AND GONE especially at YSU

move on folks, the offense is now king at YSU

We will just have to wait and see.

YSU over the last 5 Heacock years and the first 2 of Wolford were certainly one of the "best" 16 teams in 1-AA.

The problem is they take only a 1-3 from our league. We lost to the Top seeds by 3-10 points most of those years. And yet the way it is set, teams like Robert Morris get in?

And then Robert Morris and similar lesser teams get their butts kicked in the first round.....

Please!!!!!

It's much like how a very good Ursuline team this year may miss out on the playoffs and another title, because they played a great schedule and lost a few games against state powers. But yet some farm team from Cleveland gets' in ahead of them because they go 10-0 playing nobodies.

what the hell are you takling about?
1st Ursuline struggled to beat even the lesser teams on the schedule
2nd what "farm team from Cleveland" went 10-0?
3rd why should Ursuline get in with a LOSING record? because they played a tough schedule LMFAO HAHAHAHAH
4th Ursuline is as close to a "Farm team" from any city can ever get

They have good receivers and we have a suspect secondary.  YSU 32, WIU 30

we have the #1 Offense, they have the dead last D in the confrence

we win today by no less then 17
