YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: More Bad Publicity

The program is in shambles. No discipline, blown assignments on almost every play, players getting into it on the sidelines, half the team clearly doesn't give a crap any more.

This is an embarrassment and it would NOT be an easy fix, and that's making the GIANT assumption that the athletic dept sees this as a problem, and I don't believe they do.

We've got a big hole to climb out of to become respectable again and I don't think we have the right people in the correct positions to do so...I'm speaking about administration not the team.

I can't recall ever being this disappointed in our team. If they don't care why should we?

There is the 2019 team MVP

I agree. He played a lot better than I expected and no one on this board can question that kids heart and toughness. I have nothing but respect for that young man. Terrible to see his career end that way.

College Game Day is at SDSU today. Let that sink and and reflect on how far we have fallen.

Does anyone even care?  Weather looks bad.  Opposing team looks worse than the weather.  Bucks on at 12:00 with Wisky.  Not looking good for attendance.

Sounds like a scenario for about 1000 fans.

Is anyone really shocked that this is how well Bo's teams are performing?

Isn't this what got him fired at NU?

Win 9 or so games a year against teams you have outmatched. Lose to most teams that are your equal or better.

We just don't have 9 teams on our schedule worse than us.

Am I disappointed we didn't win either of these last 2 games, which were very winable? YES! and I surprised by the result? Not in the least....the man has a track record that's exactly this folks.

I was hoping Braxton could be our big power back. We don't give him many carries either though

Same here. But I don't think he can push the pile by himself.

This is the only one I'm going to make this year. What a huge game. We will be sitting pretty if we win.

No predictions here I have too many questions about the "O" and SDSU is an unknown based on who they've played to this point. Bo better be willing to throw every wrinkle and trick we have at them today.

Enjoy and be safe everyone.

Whoever is at QB they better give some help with a TE or RB over at the LT position or whoever plays will get killed.

I can't believe they left that kid on an island last week, getting beat play after play. I'm still steaming about that game and that idiotic coaching decision.

That was a bad scheme and the lack of adjustments was troubling.

I hope to see less penalties, better special teams and a whole lot of backups in the second half.

If we get more sideline penalties I may just lose my mind.

If anyone on here uses the new services \ lot assignments today I'd be interested in hearing how smoothly it all works out for you.

Glad the school addressed this, it sure looks like a nice solution.

Wenzt may have had tryouts, but I do not see him getting drafted. Are you going to tell me that Wentz was a better QB than Brock Jensen? Brock was an undrafted free-agent that eventually landed in the CFL & he was perhaps the best QB in recent I-AA/FCS history. I think YSU gave Brock his only 2 regular season I-AA losses.

The Eagles back-up proved to be a superior QB (to Wentz) last year. He was loaded with those intangibles that overcame shortcomings elsewhere on the roster. However, the team is built around Carson. The Eagles did the exact same thing with Ron Jaworski. "Jaws" was probably the first franchise QB.

College success does not translate to pro success. Wentz was obviously a better pro prospect, he had Next level size, arm strength and athleticism, and has been successful in the NFL.

I don’t know what argument you’re trying to make but Jensen is not a better professional QB then Wentz.

I believe statically the best QB the golden buffaloes had is Easton Stick. Replaced Wentz when he got hurt. I don't remember him going to the NFL this year. Bottom line NDSU has had a terrific run with QB's something YSU has never had  :-X

Stick was the 5th round pick of the Chargers. 3rd on the depth chart currently.

I watched a bit of their game against UC Davis. Their new QB looks like he will be a good one also, big shock I know.

Just got an email from the school on some new policies.....

In an effort to be more accommodating to the Youngstown State University football fan base, the Athletic Department and YSU Parking Services are announcing new Gameday parking procedures to better serve handicap and seniors attending football games at Stambaugh Stadium.

"We have a great fan base, and we recognize a portion of our fans need additional assistance to get to the stadium," Ron Strollo, Executive Director of Athletics said. "Our hope is the new three-shuttle system and dedicated handicap parking lot on Rayen Avenue, near Fifth Avenue, will assist in allowing our fans to attend games more conveniently."

Starting with this Saturday's, YSU home game against Robert Morris, the University will institute the following procedures:
There will be three shuttles that will run starting 90 minutes prior to kickoff starting in the M-53 Parking Lot located on Rayen Avenue just east of Fifth Avenue. One of the shuttles will be wheelchair accessible.
The shuttle will make three stops around campus:
The northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
The corner of Fifth Avenue and Armed Forces Blvd.
The M-82 Penguin Club/Taylor Automotive Tailgate Lot on the East Bound Service Road behind the east stands.
The shuttles will run until the end of the first quarter and begin again prior to the conclusion of the game to return fans to the M-53 Parking Lot. Post-game pickup for Armed Forces Blvd. will be the Northeast corner of the intersection.

The M-53 Lot on Rayen Avenue will be a dedicated Handicap lot. Parking will be $5.

Fans may also purchase individual game tailgate passes in the M-82 Penguin Club/Taylor Automotive Tailgate Lot and the M-70 Penguin Club/Hollywood Gaming Tailgate Lot – based on availability each game.

Penguin fans requiring additional information or assistance may contact the YSU Athletic Ticket Office at 330.941.1YSU (1978) or log onto YSUsports.com

Our corners are going to get their fair share of PI penalties.

That's just how we play, tight man coverage, with a lot of contact. Them being short doesn't help, its very tempting for a QB to throw it up and see what happens.

They are killing themselves by not getting their heads around and looking for the ball. I know that face guarding isn't a penalty in NCAA, but the look of a DB with his hands all over a guy is a LOT different if he is looking to play off the receiver and go for the ball or if he is impeding the receiver and has his back to the play.

As long as these guys play like they are following the receivers around and grabbing, the flags will come.

If I'm RMU I throw deep at least 15 times against those guys. Half fly pattern half back shoulder\comeback throws. The way things are going now you'll probably get 10 or more completions and penalties on those 15 throws.

Think back to the season opener. The Samford coach was livid after the picks, because our guys made contact. And they did, no question they had hands around the waist and were hand fighting with the receivers. But they were also looking back at the QB and making a play for the ball, so no call.

I think the success of our D is really that simple. If the CB can hang 1-1 without getting PI calls we can beat most anyone.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU ranked #24 in STATS poll
« on: September 17, 2019, 10:47:25 AM »
Top 25 is a good start.  Needed to be here by start of MVFC play.  We have #1, 3 & 15 at home and #9 in their gym so it is 100% in our control now.  Beat Bobby Morris for 4-0 and  go 3 of 4 against unrankied MVFC teams and one quality win should get us a home playoff game. Go Quins!

This is the scenario I'm imagining as well. It's very do-able.
