YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Next coach
« on: March 20, 2017, 11:42:21 PM »
Dave Buchanan is most definitely not the DOBO at Drake, he was a full assistant coach. Beat us in recruiting a couple times.

There's a reason I'm pitching him. I think this conference is by and large stuck with each other, and the only way this conference gets good enough for multiple bids is if the bottom programs get better.

Buchanan also was a head coach in D-III for 7 years. He's the best of both worlds - experienced as HC and experienced as AC. Lower division AND mid-major assistant. Strong X's and O's coach AND strong recruiter.

He picks the right assistant job at a high-major or mid-major this offseason, YSU won't get a shot at him again.

I found him on LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/coachbuchanan

YSU Penguin Athletics / PantherU Season Previews
« on: September 19, 2014, 07:55:54 PM »
Hey YSU bball fans, I've decided that the PantherU.com season previews this year will be themed similar to Deadspin's "Why Your Team Sucks" series, with me playing the part of Drew Magary and previewing/making fun of your team and you all doing your worst to tear down your own team in a funny way. It's all in good fun, something to change the pace of the Horizon League's usual mundane previews and see if we can all laugh at ourselves as well.

As a sign of goodwill, there's no team that I'm going to rip on harder than the Milwaukee Panthers, since it's my own team and I don't want you all to think I'm just taking pot shots at your programs without getting any in return. It's not going to be difficult writing about my own team, since we have plenty of crap to easily make fun of.

You're free to send vitriol about other teams, but I really want fans to take it to their own programs and rip them in a fun, anonymous way. When it's all said and done, you can turn your attention to how crappy the previews were and make fun of me for totally screwing it up.

To give you an idea of how these things work, here is Magary taking it to the Green Bay Packers in Deadspin's season preview for the team last month:

http://deadspin.com/why-your-team-sucks-2014-green-bay-packers-1627477893

I thought I'd do this after reading Detroit fan Commissioner's season preview of Milwaukee that was posted on our board. There was so much hate, I thought to myself 'this team is too easy to make fun of and have a good time doing it, why be pissed off the entire time?'

So please, send your worst comments on your own team to jimmy@pantheru.com, and expect these previews to be published some time in October.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Horizon League Poll

I'll try to contact them, thanks.

As for YSU basketball, this is the first time in a long time I can remember thinking that they had a shot at a title. If Slocum brought some depth, he's got three all-league players and really could win.

As for football, smile - it exists. You know how depressing it is to talk to fellow Milwaukee grads in September? The conversation centers around lack of football all the time.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Horizon League Poll
« on: October 27, 2012, 06:04:05 PM »
Friends of the Horizon League, I come to you with a request.

Recently, I began putting together a panel of prolific posters, bloggers and even news media personnel around the Horizon League to vote in a weekly poll for the conference.  I've gotten very far; I have representatives from five schools in the conference, six if I include myself at Milwaukee.

We will publish a weekly poll that will gauge the reputation of programs around the conference on a week-to-week basis.

The reason I am posting here is because YSU does not have a voting member on the panel. Things will move ahead whether or not we have someone from YSU, but I would much rather have every school accounted for.

If you're interested or know someone who is, have them e-mail jimmy@pantheru.com and we'll discuss it.
