Nashville, Tenn. -- Senior Casey Crozier tossed a three-hitter and fanned 11 to break the Youngstown State all-time strikeout record and led the Penguins to a 1-0 win over Tennessee State on Friday evening.

Crozier, who now has 389 career strikeouts, broke the record of 386 set by Kim Givens between 1993-96. Crozier improves to 2-1 with her first shutout of the and the 11th of her career, which is tied for fourth all-time.

Crozier allowed hits in the first, third and sixth innings, and pitched out of a one-out bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the third.

The Penguins musted just five hits, but two came late from a pair of newcomers.

Freshman Maria Lacatena's two-out double in the top of the seventh inning scored sophomore Katie Smallcomb, who also doubled, with the game's only run.

Seniors Samantha Snodgrass and Haley Knight and sophomore Miranda Castiglione also had hits for the Penguins, who improve to 3-2.

The Penguins take on Indiana State and Dayton, Saturday, at 10 a.m. and Noon, respectively.
