Not to sound negative already on Thompson ...but he would be better served to bulk up a bit and try safety ...or bulk up a little more and try LB. All his premier video is run stopping. He has some speed, so he keeps up with the guys on the outside, but he has nothing in his video to show me he has ball awareness. We already have a few of these now. At 185, he is not going to stop the likes of Zenner, Bell, Crockett, or Watson ...all of which return.

LB Jordan Guest of Miami Columbus High School has visited YSU and will visit Illinois State and Florida International.  Had been a FIU commit, but the coaching change at FIU has opened him back up.

Not necessarily. Have you seen Seattle's DB's??? Tall and big. Thats the new thing. More and more corners are 6-0 and over... I think he stays at Corner but we will see

I saw Aurora play twice on tv this fall.  I was really impressed with their skilled athletes, presumably McVay was one of them.

YSU has offerred Tampa Robinson RB Martin Ruiz.  Ruiz had an "excellent" visit this past week per his coach (via Twitter).

A couple of stories

http://www.tampabay.com/hometeam/blog/state-football-knights-rb-ruiz-leaves-impression-godby-coach/15971/

TAMPA — Ronnie Cottrell freed himself from a pair of beaming parents, eluded reporters holding microphones and cut a beeline toward one of the forlorn Robinson Knights standing near the end zone Friday.

The Tallahassee Godby head coach swiftly sidled up to the player he was looking for, running back Martin Ruiz.

“Keep your head up,” Cottrell told Ruiz. “You’re going to college to play.”

Cottrell, referred to in some circles as the “architect of the Florida State dynasty,” knows a college football recruit when he sees one.

In the 1990s, Cottrell brought some of the nation’s most talented players to Tallahassee: Derrick Brooks, Marvin Jones and William Floyd. Today, Cottrell is coaching at least a half-dozen college prospects, including senior running back and Kentucky commit Khalid Davis.

But Cottrell said he saw something special in Ruiz, who rushed for 56 yards and caught a pass for 20 more.
“He’s just a tremendous player,” Cottrell said. “He’s one of the best RBs I’ve ever seen at this level.
“He makes yards when there’s no yards. He was the difference in the first half.”

Ruiz, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior who finished the season with nearly 1,600 yards of offense and 17 touchdowns, received his first college offer this week, to Youngstown (Ohio) State.

Robinson coach Mike DePue said he expects more offers in the following weeks.

“That’s my job now,” said DePue, who coached his final game Friday.

From earlier in the season:

http://bigcountypreps.com/181/robinsons-martin-ruiz-best-kept-secret/

73 yards per game – Doesn’t make you jump out your seat
12 carries per game – Doesn’t sound look like the workhorse
4 rushing TD – Seen better

BUT…add the above, to the following

6.3 yards per rush – That’s a first down every other carry
118 receiving yards and 3 receiving TDs – Shows he can be a threat as a receiver
12 solo tackles – versatile enough to be impact on both sides of the ball
1 INT, 1 CF and 1 FR – Is often around the football
24.4 yards per KOR – Good chance the offense will have good field position
8 total TDs – Has a nose for the goal line

Martin Ruiz, Robinson 2013 ATH is not the star studded RB. He does not draw lots of attention from the opposing teams or college coaches. He is one of those guys who has really good skills, team oriented and just does what ever needs to get done for his team to win.

The 5-11/190lbs senior does not have a scholarship offer yet, but is hopeful some university will come calling for his talent. His numbers this season are solid. It doesn’t help that his time on the field is limited to the success of his team. The Robinson Knights are 5-0 and have often had such a big spread on their opponent that Ruiz is replaced at some point in the game.  The defense and special teams have scored so much, that his time on offense is reduced and his stats on offense, have not been eye popping.

Currently, Ruiz feels that South Florida is showing him the most recruiting attention. He is also getting looks from Florida International, Western Kentucky and Purdue. “I’ll go play ball anywhere”, says Ruiz. “I think I’m an aggressive runner and just want a chance”.

Seems like Wolf and the staff are trying really hard to get a couple RBs in here. Don't blame, after Bellamy and Pace leave, it's just Hymes back there

Linebacker Bryant "B.J." Welch from Orangewood Christian (Orlando, FL area) has committed to YSU

Had offers from Elon, Illinois State, Marshall and Central Florida.

If you google his name and Orangewood Christian and his name and Apopka you will get lots of video.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/recruiting/os-orangewood-christian-bryant-bj-welch-chooses-youngstown-state-20130129,0,912611.post

Bryant “B.J.” Welch was pretty pumped up last week when he officially committed to Youngstown State University in Ohio. It meant he was officially going to be the first person in the Welch family to go to college.

“I’m very proud and everybody in my family is proud of me and happy,”said the Maitland Orangewood Christian linebacker, who had a tremendous season after transferring over from Apopka.

Things were looking kind of bleak last spring for Welch, who ended up having to leave Apopka High, but with a suggestion from Apopka coach Rick Darlington, he found a place at Orangewood with former Edgewater head coach Bill Gierke.

“Yeah things weren’t going well with me and the coach and stuff at Apopka,” Welch said. “Actually coach Darlington told me about Orangewood and I was looking at Evans before I finally ended up at Orangewood.”

He had to watch this past season as his former teammates made their run all the way to the Class 8A state championship.

“It was difficult [to watch] but I’m happy for my brothers over there,” Welch said. “I was really happy for them. I watched the state game and I watched the DP game and every playoff game.

“But I felt like I had an awesome year. Everything worked out good and I have Coach Gierke to thank for that.”

Welch averaged about 10 tackles per game for Orangewood this past season and he’ll play the Will outside linebacker spot at Youngstown.

“I went on the visit and it was very family-oriented and the whole situation felt good  … the coaching staff, the  facilities, everything, and I felt it was the  right thing to do. I felt at home,” he said. “I committed while I was there.”

Welch, 5-foot-10, 183 pounds, also had a few other schools expressing interest.

“I had offers from Youngstown, Elon, Illinois State, Marshall and UCF,” he said. “I went to Elon and also had an unofficial to UCF and I was going to visit Illinois State, but I’m not going.

“I feel great … all the stress is off me now. My mom is happy, the family is happy, so I’m happy.”

There is one other Welch out there looking for a possible college football future. Linebacker James Welch at Orlando Evans is B.J.'s cousin and he has a few options to check out.

"Yeah, he's still looking, so hopefully he'll find something too," B.J. said.
