YSU Falls in Four at UIC

YSU got 15 kills and 17 digs from junior Alexis Egler, but no other Penguin had more than seven kills. The Penguins hit .345 in the first set but .116 over the final three. Kara Johnson had 13 kills to lead three Flames with double figures in kills. UIC hit .255 over the final three sets.
Youngstown State dropped to 14-12 overall and 6-5 in Horizon League play while UIC improved to 8-18 and 3-8.
YSU did not trail in the first set, and the Flames led from start to finish in the next two sets to go up 2-1. In contrast, the fourth set had 10 ties and seven lead changes before UIC prevailed.
Youngstown State led 15-11 on a Nichele Johnson kill, but UIC scored the next seven points to go up 18-15. YSU then scored the next four points to take a 19-18 lead on a block by Aly Ryan and Egler, but UIC scored four straight points and did not trail again. Kills by Jackie Carlisle and Shannon Watson got the Penguins within one at 23-22 and 24-23 before Ryan was blocked on match point.
Youngstown State will play at Valparaiso on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern.
