YSU Opens Horizon League Play With 6-1 Win At Wright State

YSU (8-8 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League) won two of three matches to claim the doubles point before winning five singles matches, four of which were straight set wins.
Winning in doubles play was Marta Burak and Sofia Mendez at No. 1 by a 6-4 score while Annina Brendel and Nehel Sahni won 6-1 at No. 2.
In singles play, Burak won 6-1, 6-1 over Vanessa Madrigal at No. 1, Dominika Lackova beat Aby Madrigal 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, Brendel cruised past Karoline Haller at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 4, Sahni defeated Tori Turner 7-5, 6-1. Also claiming a three-set singles win for YSU was Mendoza at No. 6 as she beat Elaine Cloern 6-4, 5-7, 10-0.
The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they play host to Oakland at the Boardman Tennis Center.
