The Penguins finish the regular season 14-9 overall and 5-2 in the Horizon League. The five conference wins ties the school mark which was set during the 2004-05 season. YSU had an amazing turnaround this year after posting one dual victory all of 2011-12. Wright State falls to 7-15 overall and 2-4 in league play.
YSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point quickly. Margarita Sadovnikova and Marta Burak won 8-2 at No. 1 while Lauren Hankle and Paula de Man also won 8-2.
In singles play, de Man improved to 21-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kayla Tuscany at No. 1. At No. 2, Sadovnikova earned her 21st win of the campaign with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alex Bastoch. At No. 3, Burak won her school record 26th match of the year by a 6-0, 6-1 margin over Taylor Hines.
Hankle was victorious at No. 4 singles coming from behind to knock off Amy Nini 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. At No. 5, Tijana Raicevic beat Chelsea Girgash 6-4, 6-4 while at No. 6, Annina Brendel earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Liz Steingrass.
The Guins arent' finished yet and could either be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed at next week's Horizon League Championships depending on the results of action this weekend. If YSU is the No. 2 seed, it gets a bye to the semifinals which are next Saturday in Indianapolis.
