YSU Wins Fifth Straight Dual Beating IPFW, 4-3

Fort Wayne, Ind. - For the second time in four matches, freshman Annina Brendel won the deciding match as the Youngstown State women's tennis team beat IPFW 4-3 on Sunday at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club.

YSU won two of three doubles matches to a take a 1-0 lead over the Mastodons.

In singles action, Paula de Man cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Anita Henestrosa at No. 1 to give the Guins a 2-0 lead. IPFW's Miloslava Shustova cut the deficit in half with a win over YSU's Lauren Hankle at No. 4.

At No. 3, Marta Burak won in straight sets beating Kristine Lindal 6-4, 6-2. IPFW picked up a point when Marcy Huck beat YSU's Carolyn Jesko 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5.

Trailing 3-2, Margarita Sadovnikova won a three-set battle with Caterina Kiefer 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to even the match at three-all. At No. 6 singles, Brendel won the first set before Theresa Neumyer force a winner-take-all third set by winning 6-2. In the third set, Brendel was able to pull out a 6-4 win to give the Penguins the dual victory.

YSU has won five straight duals and improves to 5-2 on the season. The Guins return to action next Saturday when they host Ball State at 5 p.m. at the Boardman Tennis Center.
