YSU jumped on the Flyers by taking the doubles point then maintained its success winning five of six singles matches.
Head Coach Mark Klysner said the strong doubles play was key into strong singles play.
"I thought we came out with more intensity today," Klysner said. "Our doubles still needs more consistency but it was definitely an improvement. Its just great for us to get an early win on the season, which we hope to carry into next weekend where we will be playing four matches in three days."
In doubles play, Marta Burak and Margarita Sadovnikova were reunited for the first time since the fall and picked up an 8-4 at No. 1. The Penguins clinched the doubles point when Paula de Man and Lauren Hankle cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, de Man improved to 2-0 this spring dispatching Sammi Hornbarger 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1. Sadovnikova made an impressive spring debut beatign Carly Peck 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 while Burak cursed to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Maureen Stevens in her first ever match at No. 3 singles.
