Penguins have Personal Record Days at the SPIRE Division I Invite
Geneva, Ohio -- The YSU men and women track and field teams took part in the two-day SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invite in Geneva, Ohio. The meet consisted of some of the most well-known colleges around the nation such as Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Penn State, West Virginia, and Illinois.

On Friday, junior Jen Shiley and senior Alteeka Vanwright ran in the unseeded 400-meter dash and managed to finish in the top eight. Shiley landed in fourth-place running her fastest time of the year with a time of 56.83 seconds while Vanwright finished in sixth also running her best time of the year in the 400m clocking in at 57.09 seconds.

Freshman runners Robin Hall and John Helms also competed in the unseeded 400-meter dash where they as well ran their fastest times of the indoor season. Hall finished in second place with a time of 48.66 seconds just missing out on winner, Brent Gray of Akron by .14 seconds. Helms ended up placing in the eighth spot where he ran a time of 49.66 beating his old personal record of .41 seconds.

Sophomore thrower Connor Neu continues having a successful year in the weight throw where he posted a personal best throw of 20.09 meters beating his old top throw by .07 meters which gave him a fifth place finish. Neu's throw of 20.09 meters was also a school record toss.

The second day of the meet sophomore Nina Grambling and senior Ciara Jarret competed in the 60 meter dash where they both made it to the finals. Grambling ran a personal-best time of 7.59 seconds to earn herself a top five finish placing in fourth and Jarrett finished in ninth place recording a time of 7.71 seconds.

Freshman Ellie Pollock made a top-10 performance in the triple jump where she had a jump of 11.83 meters which is her farthest jump of the season so far. This is Pollock's second week in a row where she jumped her personal best.

For the men, senior Bobby Grace competed in the shot put where he had a top-five throw of 18.59 meters that gave him a fifth place. Freshman high jumper Arnaldo Morales was another Penguin who had a personal record performance in the meet where he finished in 10th place in the high jump with a leap of 2.03 meters.

The YSU track teams will compete next week at the Akron Zips Invitational and at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
