YSU Women Win Third Straight Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Title

The Penguins are now back-to-back-to-back champions as they took first by 29 points. YSU won with a total of 196 points, as they held off second place Milwaukee which finished with 167 points. The Penguins and Panthers were tied at 71 points following the first two days of competition. This is the Guins' ninth outdoor title and second time winning three straight titles in a row.
Winning titles for the women on Sunday were Nina Grambling who won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and Amber Eles who won the 100-meter hurdles.
Grambling won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds. This is Grambling's fourth consecutive title, which makes her the first Horizon League runner to ever win four titles in the race. In the 200-meter dash, Grambling won her third straight title in the event by clocking a time of 24.55 seconds.
Eles won her first outdoor title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.66 seconds. Eles became the first Penguin since Laura Kosiorek in 2013 to win the event and just the second in the past nine races.
In the 100-meter dash, Taylor Thompkins took second with a time of 11.92 seconds and she also took fourth in the 200-meter dash clocking a time of 24.96 seconds.
Keishawnna Burts placed third in the 200-meter dash posting a time of 24.92 seconds and also took seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.28 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jennifer Shiley finished second with a time of 1:00.31 and Taylor McDonald was right behind her to place third with a time of 1:01.65.
In the field events, Chontel Fils took second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.25 meters.
In the hammer throw, Jaynee Corbett placed second with a toss of 47.40 meters and Jennifer Neider took fifth with a throw of 45.71 meters.
The women's 4x100 meter relay finished first to open the day as Burts, Thompkins, Lavonte Powell and Grambling had a combined time of 46.51 seconds. It was the second straight year YSU opened the final day with a win the 4x100 relay.
In the final even of the meet, the 4x400 meter relay also took first as Shiley, Burts, McDonald and Jayme Ritchie ran a time of 3:47.79. It was the first 4x400 relay win for the Penguins since 2009.
For the women's awards, Fils was named Field Freshman of the Year, Grambling was awarded the Running Outstanding Performer and Corbett was honored as the Individual Scoring Champion. Head coach Brian Gorby was named the Coach of the Year.
