Penguins Finish Strong at SPIRE Midwest Open and Penn State National Invitational
Junior Jayne Corbett took first in both the weight throw and the shot put to lead the Penguins at the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Open on Saturday.

Corbett had a toss of 16.24 meters in the women's weight throw and a throw of 15.01 meters in the women's shot put.

Other first place finishers from the SPIRE Midwest Open included, Conner Neu, Ryan Booth and Chenera Lacey.

Neu had a toss of 20.95 meters in the men's weight throw to take first and Booth finished first in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.43 meters.

Lacey placed first in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.68 meters, she also placed sixth with a leap of 10.79 meters in the women's triple jump.

Mathew Monroe took seventh in the men's weight throw with a toss of 15.88 meters and Jennifer Neider placed seventh in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.74 meters.

In the men's shot put, Dom Westbay placed fifth with a toss of 15.42 meters and Jacob Chiclowe came in sixth with a throw of 15.08 meters.

Sam Shaviss placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds.

In the women's 60-meter dash, Taylor McDonald ran a time of 8.07 seconds to come in ninth and Destiny Hall was right behind her to take 10th with a time of 8.13 seconds.

In the women's 400-meter dash, Jen Shiley placed third with a time of 57.15 seconds and Keishawnna Burts ran a time of 59.36 to take 10th.

For the women's 200-meter dash, Shiley finished fourth with a time of 25:76 seconds, McDonald ran a time of 25.99 seconds to take seventh, Lavonte Powell came in eighth with a time of 26.08 seconds and Hall was right behind to finish ninth with a time of 26.12 seconds.

At the Penn State National Invitational, freshman Chad Zallow broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.79 seconds on Friday. This also places him seventh in the Nation.

Zallow's improved time of 7.79 seconds was set during the semifinals to then have him place third in the finals with a time of 7.80 seconds on Friday. His new school mark surpassed his previous time of 7.88 seconds that was set at the YSU College Invitational.

Senior Nina Grambling took fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58 seconds. Amber Eles ran a time of 8.66 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to take eighth and Shatasia Walker ran a personal-best time of 8.73 in the 60-meter hurdles.

In distanace, Nick Gliha cut 16 seconds on his time in the 5,000-meter run to place sixth with a time of 15:10.19 and Ethan Wilson ran a personal-best time of 15:17.52.

On Saturday, Austin McLean placed 11th in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:11.68 and Michelle Klim took 14th in the women's 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:25.94. In the men's 5,000-meter run, Nick Gilha ran a time of 15:10.19 to place sixth.

In the men's 200-meter dash, Leighton Antonio placed seventh with a time of 21.97 seconds, Chad Zallow took eighth with a time of 21.99 seconds and Carl Zallow was right behind them to finish ninth with a time of 22.01 seconds.

In the jumps, Arnaldo Morales placed sixth in the men's high jump by clearing a height of 2.11 meters and Abby Jones took 12th in the women's high jump by clearing the bar of 1.68 meters.

The Penguins are next in action as they host the YSU National Invitational Feb. 5-6.
