YSU Claims Second Consecutive Horizon League Indoor Crown

Like the men, it came down to the last event for the women in a thrilling dual with the Panthers.
The relay tandem of Taylor McDonald, Megan Gunther, Nina Grambling and Jen Shiley posted a second-place finish with a time of 3:51.37 right behind Milwaukee. The Guins came into the final race leading the Panthers by three points. Oakland had a 3:56.69 in the first section of the race and if the Guins were to finish behind UWM, they needed to best Oakland's time to win the event.
Shiley crossed the finish line and the Guins celebrated their second consecutive title by a 131-130 score. Oakland was a strong third with 90 points, Detroit had 62, Wright State with 46, UIC and Valparaiso each finished with 34 points.
Winning Horizon League titles for YSU on Sunday were Mackenzie Sturtz (high jump), Jennifer Neider (shot put), Grambling (60m and 200m) and Shiley (400m).
Sturtz helped the Penguins start off the day strong by taking the HL title in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.68 meters. It was the second straight Horizon League Indoor title for Sturtz. Leanna Hartsough eclipsed 1.62m to place third in the event.
Neider took her third straight HL indoor title in shot put with a toss of 13.78, while Ciera Trybend finished sixth in the event with a throw of 12.21m.
The 60-meter dash for the Penguins kept them alive as they took first, third and fourth. Grambling finished with the fastest time of them all with 7.46 seconds, to win one of her two HL titles of the afternoon. Taylor Thomkins placed third with a time of 7.76 seconds and Tiffany Barnes took fourth at 7.77.
Grambling took her second HL title of the championships in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.50 seconds while Barnes was the runner-up with a time of 25.04 seconds.
Shiley showed her speed as she came out on top in the 400-meter dash to win the HL title with a score of 56.16 winning by 0.12 seconds over rival Anuli Okonkwo.
Savannah Osborne had a solid performance in the triple jump by finishing second with a score of 11.65m. Diamond Hodge placed fifth in the event with a score of 11.37.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Amber Eles placed third with a time of 8.79 seconds and McDonald took fourth with a run of 8.89 seconds.

McDonald was awarded with the Track HL Freshman of the Year honor. Grambling was named the league's outstanding track performer of the meet, received the most points score award and tabbed the Horizon League's Female Athlete of the Year for her performance throughout the season.
Head Coach Brian Gorby was awarded with the Women's Coach of the Year honor. He accepted the award on behalf of his coaching staff.
