Seaver is the fourth Penguin student-athlete in the 2012-13 academic year to earn academic all-district honors. He is the first male track and field student-athlete at YSU to earn academic all-district accolades since fellow thrower Aaron Merrill in 2009-10. Seaver was one of three student-athletes from an Ohio university selected at the Division I level and one of two from the Horizon League.
Seaver, a native of nearby Canfield and a graduate of South Range High School, concluded his outdoor season this past weekend by placing 13th in the shot put at the NCAA East Prelims with a career-best throw of 17.84 meters. He was one spot shy of advancing to the NCAA meet. He won the Horizon League titlein the shot put by 2.34 meters earlier this month, earning the third individual title of his career.
With one year of eligibility remaining during the outdoor season, Seaver ranks third in school history in the shot put. He finished his indoor career ranking second in school history.
In the classroom, Seaver holds a 3.62 grade-point average in integrated social studies education. He is a three-time Academic All-Horizon League honoree.
Seaver will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-round All-America honorees will be selected in June.
The teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
