Penguins Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Recognition
The Youngstown State swimming and diving program has once again been named a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team. This achievement is one that has been repeatedly given to the YSU program in recognition of their academic achievements.
The Youngstown State program had an average GPA of 3.52, placing them an impressive 33rd on the list of NCAA Division I schools. YSU ranked third among schools from Ohio behind Bowling Green and Toledo. The Penguins had the second-best GPA in the Horizon League trailing only Oakland.
To make the list of CSCAA Scholar All-American teams a swimming and diving program must achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or higher over a given semester.
Over 80 percent of NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving programs earned an average GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 spring semester.
The Penguins had a strong athletic year owning a cumulative 3.47 GPA at the conclusion of the spring semester. Three members of the program - Katrina Gerbrand, Megan Stelpflug and Stefane van Niekerk all have cumulative 4.00 GPAs.
