Aranda Wins Three Events As Penguins Host Akron in Final Home Dual
Sophomore Madison Aranda won three events and the YSU swimming and diving team won seven events against Akron on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Center Natatorium. Akron won the meet by a score of 194-106.
Aranda won the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle convincing before holding on for a narrow win the 400 IM to conclude her day. She won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.17, taking first by more than four seconds. Her first win of the meet came in the 1,650-yard freestyle as she posted a time of 17:37.52. She won the event by almost 25 seconds.
In the 400 IM, Aranda held off Akron's Kristen Vargas for her third individual win of the meet. Aranda had a time of 4:36.49 while Vargas clocked in at 4:36.92.
Other individual winners for the Guins were Viktoria Orosz, Zsani Csado and diver Bec Stafford. YSU ended the meet with an impressive win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:35.57 as the Zips' best time was 3:36.87.
Orosz won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.23 and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.26.
Csado finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.74. She was also third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.90.
Stafford had a strong performance in the one-meter dive finishing first with a pool-record score of 302.02. Stafford had held the previous mark of 301.34 set on Oct. 25, 2013.
Kolbrun Jonsdottir was second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.61 seconds. She was also third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.17 seconds
Hannah Reynolds was second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.51.
The Penguins are next in action next Saturday when they visit IUPUI.
