The Youngstown State swimming and diving program has signed five swimmers to National Letters of Intent, Head Coach Matt Anderson announced on Wednesday. Signing with YSU are Allison Lennig, Paris Krug, Saralynn Davis, Taylor Bishop and Rhianna Acosta.
The signees hail from Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
Acosta (San Antonio, Texas/East Warren H.S.) has top times of 1:01.12 in the 100-yard butterfly, 2:14.43 in the 200 fly, 1:01.77 in the 100-yard backstroke, 2:09.54 in the 200 back, 2:13.98 in the 200 IM and 4:40.31 in the 400 IM. She holds the school record in the 100-yard freestyle and is part of five school-record relay teams. She has received TISCA all-district and all-region honors during her career and has been a TISCA South Zone qualifier in numerous events. She swims for the Alamo Area Aquatic Association.
"YSU has a caring coaching staff and faculty," Acosta said. "They have an outstanding academic program and my recruiting trip was filled with fun and laughter. All of this made my decision easy to become a YSU Penguin."
Bishop (Lakeway, Texas/Lake Travis H.S.) has top times in the 50-yard freestyle of 25.19 seconds, 54.58 in the 100-yard freestyle, 1:55.11 in the 200-yard free, 5:06.83 in the 500-yard freestyle and 10:44.08 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. She is a three-time Texas 6A state qualifier and all-state honoree. She also received all-district and all-region accolades three times. She swims for Lost Creek Aquatics.
"The reason I chose YSU is because it gave me everything I wanted academically and athletically and everyone there is so nice," Bishop said.
Davis (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun H.S.) has top times of 1:56.20 in the 200-yard freestyle, 58.60 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:05.37 in the 200-yard backstroke. A USA Swimming Academic All-America honoree, she has qualified for seven YMCA National Championships as a member of the Jennersville YMCA.
"I had to pick somewhere that would be right for me, and that was Youngstown State," Davis said. "I needed a place where I could succeed and thrive both in the classroom and in the water. I'm looking forward to my time as a Penguin and can't wait for next year."
Krug (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area H.S.) has clocked top times in the 50 free of 24.78 seconds, 100 free of 53.05 seconds, 200 free of 1:53.89, 100 backstroke of 58.85 seconds, 200 backstroke of 2:07.49, 200 IM of 2:09.58 and 400 IM of 4:39.27. She is a three-time PIAA Class AAA and WPIAL qualifier and holds school records in the 100 free, 200 free and 100 back and is part of three relay team marks. She swims for the Cavalier Swim Club.
"I knew Youngstown State University was the perfect fit for me after meeting Coach Matt and the team," Krug said. "I also got to tour the Williamson School of Business which has an outstanding program. The team was very welcoming and I am thankful to be able to represent YSU."
Lennig (Canton, Mich./Plymouth H.S.) has posted top times in the 50-yard freestyle of 25.44 seconds, 100-yard freestyle of 53.18 seconds and 1:56.55 in the 200-yard freestyle. She is a three-year MHSAA state qualifier and owns the school record in the 100 free. She won the 100 free at the Wayne County Championships, the KLAA South Division meet and the KLAA Kensington Conference meet. She also won the 200 free at the KLAA South Division meet. She has trained with the Livonia Community Swim Club for the past five years.
"I chose YSU because they have a wonderful Exercise Science program to help me prepare for a life-long career," Lennig said. "I also fell in love with the team and campus. The girls made me feel right at home and that's when I knew that YSU was the place for me. I feel that Coach Anderson and the other coaches will help me reach my goals at the collegiate level."
