Penguins Return to Action at Home Against Cleveland State
Madison Aranda
The Youngstown State swimming and diving team will play host to Cleveland State on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Beeghly Natatorium. The Penguins are promoting Breast Cancer Awareness and have collected nearly $2,500 in donations for cancer research.
The Penguins (1-0) opened the season with an impressive dual win over St. Bonaventure and had a strong performance at the Tom Stubbs Relays last Friday. Cleveland State (0-2) dropped two dual contests to Cincinnati and Xavier.
YSU defeated the Vikings last year in Cleveland 178-120 in an early season dual. CSU won the last time the two teams faced off at the Beeghly Natatorium on Oct. 18, 2013.
The members of the swimming and diving program would like to thank the following meet sponsors: Commercial Metal Forming, the Ciampa Family, the Tofil Family, Ballas Buick GMC, Walters Carpet Care, Patrick T. Ginnetti, P.E., P.S., Mahoning County Engineer, Dicks Sporting Good, Giant Eagle, University Courtyard Apartments and Therese Stevens.
The Penguins have shown some quality depth early in the season. Sophomores swimmers Viktoria Orosz and Madison Aranda and diver McKenzie Stelter have picked up where they left off following their freshman campaigns. The emergence of freshman Zsani Csado and Megan Stelpflug have given the Penguins some added scorers in multiple events.
