Yeo Paces Penguins in Opening Round at HL Championships
Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. - The Youngstown State men's golf team opened play at the 2013 Horizon League Championships at the Mission Inn Resort with a first-round score of 312.

Bryan Yeo led the way with a 76 (ninth place), Bill Gaffney fired a 77 (13th), Mark Olbrych had a 79 (25th), D.J. Holub finished with an 80 (26th) and Brandon Pluchinsky carded an 81 (29th).

Yeo's steady round of 76 led the Penguins. He had one birdie (No. 6), five bogeys and 12 pars to open the tournament. On the back nine, he had bogeys at 12 and 15, but the other seven holes were all pars.

YSU is in sixth place with its 312, five shots in front of Wright State. Loyola leads with a 299, Cleveland State is second at 300, Valpraiso is third at 301, Green Bay opened with a 304 and Detroit carded a 311.

Gaffney's round featured two birdies, 11 pars, four bogeys and a triple bogey giving him an opening score of 77. After his triple bogey on four, he regrouped and was two-over par his final 14 holes. On the back nine, he birdied 10 but had bogeys on 11, 13 and 17.

Olbrych posted a 79 in his opening round. His first 18 holes featured seven bogeys and 11 pars for his seven-over-par score.

Holub had a up-and-down first round to finish with an 80. After opening the day with a triple bogey, he bounced back and was just two over par on his final eight holes of the front nine. On the back nine, Holub had two bogeys and two birdies before a triple-bogey seven on the 18th hole left him at eight-over-par for the event.

Pluchinsky opened with a nine-over-par 81. His round featured a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. He was two over on the back nine with a birdie, three bogeys and five pars.

The second round is set to get underway early Saturday morning. YSU's first golfer is set to tee off at 7:30 a.m.
