Holub Finishes Fourth at PSU's Rutherford Intercollegiate

Redshirt freshman D.J. Holub had rounds of 76 and 73 on Saturday and finished with a low of 72 on Sunday to tie two other golfers for fourth place with a 221. Holub tied Maryland's Sean Bosdosh and Ben Warnquist. Xavier's Tanapol Vattanapisit won in a playoff following a three-round total of 216.
Holub had a first round 76 before a 73 on his second round on Saturday left him tied for ninth with seven other golfers. He was 19th after the first round. On Sunday he was able to move up five spots thanks to the sixth-lowest third-round score.
As a team, YSU shot a 306 on Sunday following rounds of 316 and 303 on Saturday for a combined score of 925 tying Rutgers for 11th place at the 14-team tournament. Binghamton won the team crown with an 890, five shots ahead of Xavier.
Bill Gaffney also had his best round of the event on Sunday firing a 75. Gaffney improved three strokes from his first to second round before improving by a stroke on Sunday. Gaffney carded a 79 before firing a 76 during his second round on Saturday.
Brandon Pluchinsky made a three-shot improvement between round one and round two as well. Pluchinsky had a first-round 80 before carding a second-round 77. He settled for an 81 on Sunday to shot a 238 and finish 59th.
Yeo had the biggest improvement between his first and second rounds. Yeo opened with an 82 but rallied for a 77 in his second round. He came back on Sunday with a 78 and finished 58th in the event with a 237.
Olbrych had an 81 in the first round before being sidelined in the second round. He did not see action on Sunday.
YSU heads to Florida for the Horizon League Championships which start on Friday. The event is being held at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
