Terre Haute, Ind. — Youngstown State men and women cross country teams participated in the NCAA Division I Pre-National Invitational this Saturday afternoon going up against some of the nation's top schools.

Samantha Hamilton led the women for YSU finishing a very impressive third place and Eric Rupe was the top performer for the Pengiuns men placing ninth. In the team race, the women were ninth out of 35 finishing ahead of some solid BCS programs. The men were 14th out of 20.

Hamilton and Pompeo made history with setting records in the Women 6k Run Cross Country White Race running the top two-fastest times ever for YSU at this race today.

Hamilton ran the fastest time of 20:41 for the Penguins to place an impressive third overall out of 226 runners while Anna Pompeo came in tenth at a time of 21:22. Finishing out YSU's top 5 were freshman McKinsie Klim running a notable time of 22:27 finishing 77th, junior Brittany Stockmaster placing 137th (23:07) and freshman Libby Rogenski finishing 140th (23:10).

Rupe led the men again with his ninth-place finish and with a personal-best time of 25:01 in the Men's 8k White Race. The performance marked Rupe's second week in a row with a personal-best time in the 8k race.

The next Penguin to finish was sophomore Austin McLean sneaking in the top 20 by two seconds, placing 19th out of 135 runners at a time of 25:24.
