YSU Cross Country Teams Conclude Campaign at Great Lakes Regional

The women finished 19th out of 33 teams while the men finished 23rd out of 31 teams.
Leading the way for the Penguins in the women's 6k race was junior Anna Pompeo clocking in at a time of 21:25 to finish a strong 42nd and junior Eric Rupe led the Guins in the men's 10k race finishing 71st at 32:21.
The women beat all of the other Horizon League teams in today's race while scoring 559 points and placing five spots ahead of the next Horizon League foe Oakland who scored 712 points.
Pompeo capped an impressive junior year with being one of the top-two finishers for the Penguins in the last five races. Pompeo, who finished third in the Horizon League Cross Country Championships, led all Horizon League women in the race placing 42nd out of 227 runners. Pompeo finished nine seconds ahead of the next Horizon League runner senior Louisa Coppola of Detriot.
Horizon League Freshman-of-the-Year McKinsie Klim was the only other Penguin to finish in the top 100. She finished 88th with a time of 22:16 missing the top 75 by 14 seconds. Senior Samantha Hamilton was the next to cross the finish line for the women placing 123rd at 22:51.
Freshman Libby Rogenski and junior Brittany Stockmaster finished within the top five for the Guins with Rogenski finishing 138th (23:04) and Stockmaster finishing 172nd (23:37). The other Penguins who competed in today's race were sophomore Megan Monte (23:52) and junior Katie Heney (24:52).
Horizon League Cross Country Champion Eric Rupe adds another race of being the top performer for the Penguins with his 71st finish out of 207 runners. Out of the seven races of the year for the Penguins this is Rupe's sixth finish being the top runner for YSU.
The next highest runner was sophomore Austin McLean, who also has been a top performer for YSU all year, placing 105th at a time of 33:05. The next Guin was junior Nick Gliha placing 129th at 33:30 along with sophomore John Hutnyan (34:23), freshman Jon Richmond (34:53), and sophomore Kyle Joynes (37:00).
The YSU men scored 646 points beating out the Horizon League teams of Milwaukee (665), Oakland (819), Valparaiso (859), and Green Bay (864).
