Cross Country Teams Open Campaign at Duquesne

Rupe posted a time of 26:29.4 and was in the top 10 by more than 12 seconds. Penguin Austin McLean was 10th with a time of 26:42.0, Nick Gliha was 12th with a time of 27:01.9, Jon Hutnyan was 16th with a time of 27:27.1, John Richmond placed 27th in his YSU debut with a time of 28:16.5 and newcomer Ethan Wilson was 53rd with a time of 30:14.8.
The men defeated Robert Morris (15-41), Carnegie Mellon (21-35) and Saint Vincent (24-31) while falling to Duquesne (18-37) and Pittsburgh (22-35).
Ciarniello paced the women and was the second-best non-Duquesne finisher in the event. The Dukes took the top nine places while Ciarniello was 11th at 19:01.4 behind Pitt's Hillary Boxheimer.
Newcomers McKinsie Klim and Libby Rogenski had strong debuts. Klim was 13th with a time of 19:13.6 and Rogenski clocked in at 19:16.0. Brittany Stockmaster placed 21st with a time of 19:41.4 while Katie Heney was 22nd at 19:44.8. Emily Maxwell, Megan Monte and Ashley Smith also competed for YSU.
The women dropped a 15-50 decision to Duquesne, a 25-32 contest to Pittsburgh and defeated Carnegie Mellon 15-50.
The men were third in the overall team standings out of six teams while the women were third out of four.
YSU returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 when it competes in the Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron.
