Benjamin Named Preseason Second-Team All-League by College Sports Madness
Youngstown State sophomore guard Indiya Benjamin has been named to the Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team by College Sports Madness, the website announced on Wednesday.
Benjamin, a native of Lima, Ohio, is one of just two sophomores to earn preseason all-league mentioning. An all-freshman team honoree last season, she started all 32 games at point guard and averaged 9.0 points, 3.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds. She made 49 3-pointers, and she helped the Penguins set new school records for best assist-to-turnover ratio and fewest turnovers per game.
Green Bay received the most accolades from College Sports Madness with four players being recognized and Kevin Borseth being named Coach of the Year. Phoenix junior Tesha Buck was named the preseason Player of the Year, and teammate Mackenzie Wolf was tabbed the league's Freshman of the Year.
Buck was joined on the preseason first team by Green Bay's Mehryn Kraker, Detroit's Rosanna Reynolds, Oakland's Olivia Nash and UIC's Ruvanna Campbell. Joining Benjamin on the second team were Green Bay's Kaili Lukan, Oakland's Elena Popkey, Cleveland State's Alexis Eckles and Milwaukee's Jenny Lindner. Lindner and Benjamin are the two sophomores on the preseason all-league teams.
