A capacity group of golfers at the Youngstown State Women's Basketball Golf Outing enjoyed fellowship and fantastic weather that led to low scores at Knoll Run on Saturday.
The first outing under head coach John Barnes featured a record 36 foursomes, and the event maintained its long traditions of an impressive list of auction items and interaction with student-athletes.
"Our staff was humbled by the amount of support for our program at the golf outing this weekend," Barnes said. "We'd like to thank all 36 foursomes, our sponsors and our golf committee for allowing us the opportunity to raise funds for our program while having a great time with our fans in the process. We're looking forward to many more successful outings in the years to come."
Sponsors at the Horizon level who donated $1,000 were Farmers National Bank and Penn Tool. Penguin level sponsors who donated $500 were Marucci & Gaffney Excavating Company, Williams Construction, The Honda Store, Belleria Boardman, Belleria Hubbard, Jack Colonna, Golden Dawn Restaurant, "Joe" Dickey Electric and Tunno Insurance Agency. Additional sponsors included Kaleel Brothers, Minuteman Press, WKBN-WYTV, Belleria Struthers, Chick-Fil-A, O'Charley's, Arby's and Jim Marucci. There were also 57 hole sponsors.
The AM Party Rentals foursome had the top overall score with an 18-under round of 54 to win the men's division. The Power Management group shot 55 to finish one shot back. Chris Perunko's foursome won the women's division with a seven-under par score of 65, and Joanna Collella's foursome carded a 67 to finish second. The low round in the mixed division was by the J.M. Special Products group, which shot 57. Karen Peters' foursome scored a 59 and earned the second-place prize after a scorecard playoff.
The skins winners were Belleria Boardman and Justin Vrabel's group. The Belleria Boardman foursome scored a two on the par-4 seventh hole, and Vrabel's foursome scored a three on the par-5 15th.
Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Karen Peters in the women's division, Bob Burns in the men's division and Ken Gura in the senior division. The longest drive competition was won by Perunko, Brian Johnson (men) and Jim Durkin (seniors). Skip Watt made the longest putt on the eighth hole.A capacity group of golfers at the Youngstown State Women's Basketball Golf Outing enjoyed fellowship and fantastic weather that led to low scores at Knoll Run on Saturday.
